A very close friend of mine is in crisis and was turned away by Dr. In, a member of this facilitys admissions team, yesterday evening. My friend has a long and well-documented history of PTSD, bipolar disorder, multiple hospitalizations, and two suicide attempts. Her request for help combined with her history should have been enough for her to be admitted. She has insurance. She was told she could not be admitted because she was not in immediate danger of committing suicide. It seems absurd that a mental hospital would turn away a patient with her history simply because she had the presence of mind to seek help before she was in immediate danger. My friend was displaced by the recent flooding in Houston and I have watched her condition degrade over the past few weeks. She was able to specifically detail fears about recent, new symptoms of dissociation, including a 12-hour blackout that occurred in her vehicle in a public parking lot, but also shorter periods of a few minutes that occurred while she was driving- including getting lost in Katy trying to find Starbucks, just before freaking out at a gas station, afraid to get out to pay for gas and getting stuck there for nearly 5 hours only ONE mile from where she was staying. She was also able to express having recent suicidal thoughts within 48 hours, but asked for HELP not to attempt suicide - this was somehow interpreted by Dr. In as not being really suicidal. The hospitals website states "We pledge the highest standards of patient safety and clinical safety." and "We are here to better the lives of others..." and "...meet the needs of those we serve." I wonder which of those tenets were adhered to when they told her she should call her regular therapist or perhaps go to an ER? Or perhaps theyll be more willing to help her AFTER she attempts suicide? It seems the least they could have done was to observe her for 24 hours. Im very disappointed in the assessment process at this facility and in Dr. In, specifically. If my friend attempts to gain admission to another facility I will accompany her to make sure she has an advocate. Her anxiety impeded her ability to communicate and I would think that trained mental health professionals would be able to understand that. Dissociation and suicidal ideation are legitimate reasons to admit a patient; in fact, a patient could be involuntarily committed for either of these symptoms. It is my friend’s opinion, and mine, that she was turned away because she did not have a permanent address to put on the hospital’s forms (she is currently displaced by a well-known flood event that took place within the past several weeks that displaced HUNDREDS.) If anything happens to her I can assure you that I will contact every news outlet in Houston with this story and make sure it receives local, if not nationwide, attention.

If I could give this place 0 Stars, I would!! stay far away and do not take your family there. I made the mistake tonight of trying to take my husband there he has PTSD and some other ossues. We were sent there from the Parc next door to help handle his PTSD. The second we walked in the door they locked it behind us and refused to let us leave! We were treated like prisoners. They made him feel uncomfortable keep in mind he has PTSD they swarmed him like they were going to attack him and would not let him leave the facility. He had an anxiety attack because of all this commotion. They treated as horrible as animals and the nurses and the horrible manager short little Hispanic chick with ugly tattoos treated us like animals as well. I felt like an inmate and I wasnt even the one with the problem. When the doctor finally showed up, he let my husband go!! That rude little Hispanic manager or whatever she is gave us the meanest looks up until we left, because she knew there was no reason to lock us in there like caged animals!! The doctor released my husband due to his issue not being severe enough. While we waited to meet this unprofesionaly dressed doctor we waited in a cold room for hours. stay far away they will not help you youre better off calling the cops and going to jail which is free.

I was referred by our school counselor, I went wanting out patient services that would be covered by Medicaid . My child already sees a therapist , that did not take Medicaid but worked with me on a sliding scale . If I could get additional help at no cost to me I thought this was a good thing... when we arrived I was told they no longer did outpatient services , but they asked me to fill out paperwork anyway . They did a video ( Skype) interview with my child and a Dr . That lasted a whole 2 minutes . They then wanted to admit my child . I told them NO. I didnt think this was necessary, I just wanted outpatient meetings . When I told the girl( Sara) I was leaving , she THREATENED ME! She said if I refuse to follow their suggestion that my child needed to be admitted that she would call CPS on me ! My child was not violent , he was not a harm to himself or others . This was absolutely overstepping their authority! Sure enough next day CPS was at my door . Nothing came of the interview with CPS . I was able to show the case worker that I currently had my child in therapy . He was not a threat to himself or others and I told her they are abusing their power over there !! I will tell everyone I can DO NOT EVER GO TO THIS HORRIBLE PLACE !!!!!!

My main problem is with the financial office. My daughter spent 5 days there and it did prompt a positive change for her. The thing is, the day she went in, NO financial information was given to me that day. (It was an emergency situation.) On the fourth day, they inform me that I have to pay 3750.00 out of pocket before she will be released. Now, four months later I am STILL trying to get the correct paperwork from them to turn into insurance. They dont answer their phones, they dont have access, and they dont call back when you leave messages. Also, I needed paperwork from the psychiatrist that treated her, and that also took forever and was charged 75.00 t write a sentence on a piece of paper. He also forgot to write the prescription for some meds she needed and it took forever to get that too. They are sure ready to take your money, but VERY unhelpful once their money is paid and your loved one is released. My advice? Not impressed AT ALL with this place. I hope there are better places in Houston than this.

My minor son was brutally assaulted by one of the staff members who went by the name Mr. Cody. The staff member was fired and led off the property. Charges have been filed. My son was battered, bruised and was left with 6 staples in the back of his head. Even though the staff was apologetic, they became silent. The hospital became more interesting in covering themselves than helping my child through the ordeal. I had my son transferred to a different facility to deal with the horrible trauma hes experienced. Its heartbreaking as a mother to have your child harmed by the very people you trusted to protect him. I am a fair person and have to say that there are few great staff members there that did not let self preservation trump their humanity and they were good to my son until he left. The way the hospital treated the situation was horrendous in my opinion. Outrageous.
