NOOOOOOO!!! Never go to the ER here! I completely skewered my foot with a 1.5 x 7 inch garden claw. My husband brought me in where the wait was not bad before being taken back. Now I know why- no one in their right mind goes here. They made me sit in a chair in the back to answer some questions. While answering, I started to pass out. I told him so. He said there were just a few more questions. I was falling and only saw black as he asked me what my level of pain was. He refused to lay me down one room over. My husband just told him to make up the rest of the answers so I could lie down. While lying on the bed, the shock subsided and the pain began. I was offered nothing and no on came in for over an hour. My husband went to get a pillow to elevate my foot which had then swollen around my bloody flip flop completely so you could not see the top of it. The nurses would not get one, but pointed at a closet and told him to go find one. I also was shaking uncontrollably, and he was able to find some nasty blanket in there for me- not sure if it was clean or dirty. In fact, the only helpful person, a xray tech, came in to do my foot and looked at the blanket and asked, "What is that?" She went and got me a warmed blanket somewhere and will be blessed in heaven for it. They cleaned it out, finally, while the orderly made fun of my dirty feet and told me I needed a loofah. REALLY? I was out in the garden in flip flops, my feet may get a bit dirty, also, Mr. Caregiver, ever heard of bedside manner? I saw a doctor for the first time as I was apparently being discharged. She told me I was fine and gave me a prescription for antibiotics. I asked about nerve damage- she drew her pen along my toes and asked if I felt it. I said, "kind of" she declared me fine (7 months later and I still cant feel 2 of my toes). They said I was free to go and left. We waited and could find no one and finally my husband had to PIGGYBACK me out of the ER. Well.... going against their advice, I went to a podiatrist on that Monday (it was a Saturday night). He was dumbfounded. He said the antibiotics were WAY too weak and prescribed me much stronger ones. I even needed another round after that due to continued redness. He got me a proper wrap, taught me how to do it, how to clean and bandgage it and gave me exact orders on how to move, what size crutches, etc. The ER said it was no big deal and I should be up and walking in the morning. I am no wuss- natural child birth with no screaming, thank you, but HELLO! I writhed for 2 nights with the foot up, then, had to crawl around for a week because I could not put my foot below me at all without it throbbing off my ankle. Now, I have just called the hospital about my bill for the 5th time. There was a small outstanding balance I refused to pay-$75. I talked to the patient liason about it and was assured 3 times on 3 different occasions that it would not go to collections. Guess what? Now they are saying they are trying to resolve the fact that it went to collections. They have records of me calling, but no record of a resolution. Whose fault is that? They never have called me back, only me calling them and explaining the same story every time and getting the same run around. NEVER NEVER go here.

Davis Hospital is a joke. From check in to departure I felt like I was in a circus. Davis used to be our designated Hospital eight years ago, even then we would usually drive to St. Marks to avoid using Davis. Every time I go to Davis Hospital the experience is a nightmare. The wait times are inexcusable. The staff though often nice, does not appear to know where things are or what they need or should be doing. There never seems to be enough people staffed for any department. We have used the ER a few times and what a terrible experience. We have had MRI’s and the same type of service. I’ve recently had to use the radiology department for a follow up from one of my Dr’s. The lab assistant lost my samples and it took them 45 min to locate the samples, test them and retrieve the test sample results. To a simple urine test that should have taken less than 5 min.The nurse didn’t even know how to use the equipment. The contracted radio tech had to explain it all to her and show her. Ridiculous. The biggest complaint is the billing dept. At check in the registration desk did not know how to take my co pay, just left it as “wait for the bill, my computer is slow”. Oh, like the billing nightmare from the main procedure I had at Davis surgical 3 months prior. Where the procedure was to be 100% covered but Davis uses different billing codes than the surgical center (when the surgical center and my Dr’s office use the same code) This resulted in the lack of payment. Three months later, still unresolved. I got a collection agency call, regarding billing from Davis hospital, I assumed it was from this last debacle. But it wasnt. Much to my surprise I was being sent to collections from a remaining balance not paid by insurance and now being billed from an ER visit from June of 2007. Its now April of 2015. Why was I not notified about this , say 8 years ago? I only used Davis hospital again because of my new Dr. whom I really liked. I didnt realize she was contracted with them until I requested a certain procedure . I thought I liked this Dr. enough that I would try Davis hospital again. After all it had been nearly 8 years. ( We hated Davis so much 8 years ago we switched our network and insurances to avoid using them and went with new Dr’s that were connected to other hospitals.) I had hoped my experience this last time would be better and gave benefit of the doubt. Oh boy... I will NEVER use Davis Hospital again. Unfortunately I will be switching my new Dr. as well because she is tied to them. It’s too bad really. I wouldn’t send my worst enemy to Davis Hospital.

The staff was friendly and professional until I was sent to the recovery room after surgery. The first thing I remember coming out of anesthesia is a nurse (not even mine) giving me a condescending, preachy lecture about my language. I have no idea what I said but I also gave the staff multiple warnings that I come out of anesthesia ill tempered and aggressive. When I responded to this nurse I suddenly got a lecture from my nurse and my standard of care dropped dramatically. She rushed me out to recovery then she felt the need to pass on to the next nurse her attitude when she gave report. The was no medical need to pass on that I had used "inappropriate language" while giving my medical stats. This nurse was almost successful in hiding his anger and did a very professional job otherwise. I also received the very minimum recovery time and was pushed out the door as fast as possible. They have to wait 30 minutes and that is how long they waited until the wheelchair arrived and out the door I went. I dont believe I have ever had been pushed faster. I have zero idea what I said to start this and except for calling the first nurse a rude heifer I dont recall using any foul language from the point of the lecture to when I left. If you cant handle a few bad words from people coming out of anesthesia you may be in the wrong field. By the way, Im married to a nurse who has worked in a PACU and although she stayed silent during this to keep it from escalating she hasnt seen such unprofessional behavior in a PACU before. This is a hospital and when people wake from anesthesia they are disoriented and confused from minutes to hours afterwards. They deserve care and understanding not preachy arrogant nurses whose feelings are easily hurt. If I want to be preached at I will attend church not have a back operation. This hospital is very conveniently located to all my doctors but I will never use it again and if necessary I will be forced to change doctors if they only work out of this hospital. EDIT: After reading other reviews I see a pattern and there is zero chance I will ever use this hospital again. It seems the doctors are great and the nursing staff is ill trained and ill mannered. Having had multiple surgeries in the past I have always had great nurses (Im married to one) at other hospitals. It seems I will also have to closely watch my bills. I have 2 health insurance plans and usually never pay anything (other than those premium$) but I suspect that wont be the case this time.
