I had a horrible experience here. I thought Dr. Dobson was a great doctor and had brought my doves to her in the past so when I moved back here I brought my cats to her. She treated my one cat for multiple ear infections and I was bothered that he kept getting them. It was pricey but I figured hes worth it for a good vet right? then my other cat got sick as well. I had my mom take them both in to Dr. Dobson because I was super sick myself. She told them when I told her. I wrote it all down for her so there would be no miscommunications. They treated my male cat for his ear infections and Dr. Dobson looked at my female cat who I had said was acting lethargic and I was concerned may have an ear infection but I wasnt sure what exactly she had going on and Dr. Dobson looked her over and said "OH THIS IS THE HEALTHIEST CAT IVE EVER SEEN! SHES SO BEAUTIFUL! NOT A THING I CAN DO FOR THIS CAT! But she is behind on her vaccinations so lets go ahead and get her up to date on those!" which they went ahead and did. Im pretty sure any vet knows you dont vaccinate a sick cat. Even if you just suspect shes MIGHT be sick. Well my mom brought her home and she got MUCH worse. she had a bad vaccine reaction and puked a bunch that night and morning and hid from me the whole time. When she puked she puked ON herself which she has never done and didnt clean it off. I got up in the morning an saw that and immediately called to bring her back in. This time it was Dr. Neminick who saw us. She looked her over and said it was just probably a vaccine reaction and treated her for inflammation and nausea. I told her that she was acting funny before the vaccines though and Dr. Neminick just dismissed it as her being concerned for me because I had been sick. This time I took her home and she STILL wasnt any better but was getting worse. Extreme lethargy and stopped eating and drinking and developed a sneeze and constant sniffles. Brought her back AGAIN and saw Dr.Dobson and she wanted to hospitalize her and run a bunch of tests and things. Which I was totally all for. And would be again because at that point I just wanted her better. She had also lost weight. things were getting serious. The tests came back showing something was wrong with her Liver. So Dr. Dobson gave me antibiotics, reglan for nausea and MILK THISTLE AND A $649 BILL. which was 100 more than her estimate. Milk thistle is a homeopathic herb sometimes used to help liver issues. All fo these were in liquid form. But whatever Ill try whatever the vet thinks I should. I took my kitty home and when it came time to give her her first dose of these meds I got the antibiotic down her okay then did the milk thistle. INSTANT violent foaming and drooling. Enough to cover both my arms and stomach and her face and chest and drip onto the floor. I coundt even get the anti nausea med into her. 2 days of these meds and no improvement. I finally decided to find a new vet. The new vet told me it was probably being vaccinated while sick that did it but that she needed an ultrasound and further tests. Which can only be done in Salt Lake. So I drove to salt lake with my very sick kitty and spent the day an Advanced Veterinary Care (which I cannot recommend highly enough. Ive been there many times now) and they confirmed that her liver was actually okay but it was in fact from being vaccinated while sick. They said milk thistle is a bogus med and to stop giving that and the other stuff put her on something for an Upper Respiratory Infection and to stimulate her appetite and now she is slowly improving. That day cost me an additional $800 dollars. All because Dr. Dobson thought it was a good idea to vaccinate a possibly sick kitty. I mean why would I have had my mom bring her in if I didnt think something was wrong with her?? Terrible experience huge bills and a very sick cat. Will never go back there or recommend her to anyone. totally irresponsible vet care.

My hedgehog Chrysanthemum was recently pregnant, my first breed and her first litter, but what happened was a disaster. I found her in the morning in my camera bag, which was weird. I had no idea she was out of her cage. It turns out she had her babies in the camera bag, but they were a week early and born dead. we assumed that it was just because they were born early, and many tears were shed. But She appeared fine, and everything went on as normal. We werent planning on going to a vet, but the next morning we found that she had another baby. It freaked us out, and we are positive that it was born a night after the first babies. that was when we decided to go to a vet. Riverwoods was the only place that I knew of that took in hedgehogs so we had to go there. We went almost immediately. We got sent into a room, and I was only with my sister. My mom was busy. An assistant came in and asked us a few questions, then told us to wait for Dr. Dobson. When she came in she asked if I knew that Chryssi was pregnant. I said yes, and she asked if I had a male hedgehog. I said yes. She asked if I kept them together (Seeing if I was really just a child and didnt know anything about what I was doing) I said no, thatd would be irresponsible. She had her leg propped up and was drumming her nails on the table. She examined Chryssi, and told me there wasnt any left. I told her that I thought that the reason we came was because she had another baby 24 hours apart, and we were making sure she was okay and didnt have any more. We pretty much thought that the reason that the babies died was because it was too early (about a week before the first due date). She kept saying that she "Just doesnt buy it." Over and over again. She was super abrasive and didnt have any bedside manner. She then told us that we needed to bring in the baby that was born that day so she could take it in for a necropsy. The whole ordeal cost us 150$ For a thirty minute check up and a two and a half week wait for a necropsy. Im giving it two stars because we did get the results, which are that Chryssi gets something like group b strep, and when we want to breed her again we need to pick up some antibiotics. When I told my mom about my unpleasant experience, we called Riverwoods to confront her about her behavior. The nurse(?) that was in the room with us agreed that she was abrasive and inappropriate, and she told us that she would talk to HR (I think) about it. Dr. Dobson was always "to busy" to give us a simple one-minute apology. At least we found out what was wrong with the litter, though. I dont think Ill come here again for anything but the antibiotics.

I took my baby (2 months old) guinea pig to these people just to get a check up and check for mites. She supposedly tested positive for a minor case of mites and was administered some Revolution mite treatment and scheduled a follow up appointment. I went back for the follow up a week later and it was as if Dr. Dobson had mixed up my guinea pig with another patient. She asked how my guinea pigs hair loss was to which I replied that there was no hair-loss and that she had told me it was only a very minor case of mites. Dr. Dobson then told me that I was wrong and that my guinea pigs mites were very severe. She then asked me how the antibiotics were going and I told her she had never prescribed any antibiotics. She then said that she needed to prescribe some just as a precaution, "Just in case". A vet tech then came in and administered Baytril orally to my guinea pig so roughly that my guinea pig gagged and spit up. I did some research right when I got home about why this antibiotic would be prescribed and found that Baytril is not recommended to be used for guinea pigs under six months old. The days following, my guinea pig became severely constipated and lethargic, until one morning I found her laying in her cage, alive but completely brain dead. In a panic, I rushed to Riverwoods for help and was met with the most flippant and dismissive behavior Id ever experienced. After examining my poor brain dead, writhing in pain, foaming at the mouth guinea pig, the vet told me that guinea pigs "just have poor immune systems" and that things like this "just happen to guinea pigs sometimes." They sent me home with a $260 bill (not including the previous $200 for the antibiotics and visits). My guinea pig died later that afternoon after being in clearly agonizing pain for more than 12 hours. These people killed my guinea pig. They killed her in an awful, painful way so they could make a quick buck off me for unnecessary and harmful medication. These people do not care about your pets. All they care about is getting your money and creating reasons to get you to come back. They are not knowledgeable about the medications they prescribe. Do not take your pets here. If you have a healthy pet, Riverwoods Pet Hospital will be sure to change that.
