The following is part of a letter I sent the hospital directer and my doctor. The only response was a call saying they would forward it to the departments. To Whom It May Concern: Upon arrival at 7:15 am we were uncertain where to sign in, walked past an empty desk, and had a woman literally shout at us that we have to sit down, not walk around. I commented there were not two available chairs, and she said go stand there anyway. In the preparation room the nurse was nice, but things were still all messed up. The nurse said she had to do blood work before surgery. I told her that we had it done already. She said she could not see it, the anesthesiologist was called over, and found it on the next page. She also said at that time , that the dr. had an order for a pain pump in his paperwork, which by the way we never got. Upon getting to his room, he was in severe pain in both arms. He continued in severe pain and was very uncomfortable and miserable for 24 hours, at which time we discovered that when the nurse came in every 6 hours and said here is your pain med, it was ibuprofen only. We were outraged to find this out, and when the nurse gave him the Lortab, he immediately felt better. Although, as soon as the pain was under control, it was more obvious that his left arm was not just asleep, but could not even be used. A neurologist came the next day to examine him, which I felt was a long wait, to determine it was not a stroke, but nerve damage to the arm. I went to the nurses station to say my husbands IV was leaking everywhere. It took one hour for someone to come and fix it. It took two different people to try, before someone could fix it. It ended up having to be put, supposedly, on his bad arm, exactly at the bend. I explained this was a problem, she was very very rude One person came in to draw blood, and couldn’t get it. She finally got a drop. She left, and later another nurse came in and discovered the first nurse or lab person had left a tourniquet on my husbands arm up above his robe line, where we could not see it. We were not told until the next day that we had to call in his meals. His drain pump was leaking badly, getting everything wet and bloody and again it was 45 minutes before anyone came. This is not even all of the frustrations we experienced. I will tell you this, we will not be back, and will advise those people we know to go elsewhere, even if it means having to get another doctor. You need to tell people what they need to know, when they need to know it. Your staff should offer snacks between meals to those in their care. They do at other hospitals. Rooms need garbage dumped more than every other day. If people are new and do not know how to draw blood in difficult circumstances they should either be better trained or accompanied. The way you deal with pain med. Is ridiculous. A person should not have to be coherent enough or understand your system enough to specifically ask for their own medication. I do want to compliment a nurse we had named Donna. She was the one who discovered and mentioned to us that for 24 hours following surgery he had been given no pain medication except a form of Ibuprofen in his IV. After all the suffering, she gave him LorTab, and his misery was gone. She was also very pleasant, and knew her job. We appreciate all she did for us. After that, I called the Desk every time the pills were wearing off to get more. The procedure needs looked into. We were told then that you don’t get it unless you specifically ask. Well, telling them right after surgery that his arms were killing him, should have been considered asking I guess. We are very disturbed by this whole thing.Do you know anyone that would intentionally go 24 hours with no pain medication after major surgery?

I had sudden pain in my left side and after several hours drove myself to the ER. It was mid morning on a Tuesday. It was all I could do to drive there and then walk across the street and up the ramp to the ER door. I walked in doubled over in pain. No one was in the waiting area and to my right I saw a window with a dark haired woman talking to what looked like a male maintenance worker. I waited at the window for several minutes with no acknowledgement from the woman who had her back to the window. I finally asked if I was in the right place... the ER? I could barely stand and was getting nauseated. (If I had been having a heart attack, I guess the woman at the admitting window may have noticed me as I hit the floor. I am still in shock someone so disinterested works in that department when minutes count.) Through the window she asked me for insurance documents. I could barely speak or stand and told her I had been there recently for a procedure and nothing had changed and would she please look up my info? I told her I had to sit down or I would fall down. I told her the on-call doc I had spoken to earlier suspected a bowel obstruction. She opened up the door and had me sit on a chair beside her. She was very rude as she continued to ask me more questions (not related to how I felt) that I could not answer due to being in so much pain. After what seemed like forever, she had me walk down a long hallway. I could barely stand and walking was almost impossible. I kept wondering why she didnt get me a wheelchair? Once I was away from her, my experience went from horrible to great (if you consider being in the ER great). The medical staff was a bit disinterested and chatting among themselves when they were in my room. The nurse gave me a cup and pointed to a restroom across the hall expecting I could walk over there and get a sample and walk back on my own. As much pain as I was in, nauseated and dizzy, I thought that was not a safe thing to have me do alone but she did not offer to help me and walked away so I was on my own. The doc was wonderful. He spoke with me about my symptoms as he got my pain under control. After I had settled down and breathing normally, I was taken to have a CT scan. The tech that took me to the CT was very nice and the CT tech was nice. He took me back to my room to rest and after about 45 minutes the doc came in and told me I had kidney stones. Better than what we initially thought but so painful. The doc was very nice and calming. He explained everything and said after resting another hour or so I could go home since he thought the stones would continue to pass on their own, which they did.

Not impressed with this facility at all. I took my one year old daughter here because after hours of throwing up she started throwing up blood. They were the nearest emergency room and covered by my insurance. After signing in and waiting in the pretty much empty lobby for twenty minutes with my two year old and puking one year old, the check in girl told to me to go into her office. She took my daughters temp, checked her pulse and oxygen and weighed her. She then told me to follow her. I had my two year old son, puking daughter that she had me take out of the carseat, diaper bag and carseat to carry back....she didnt offer to help carry anything as I seriously struggled to follow her to a room (my husband hadnt arrived yet). Then after sitting in the room for a bit we had a nurse practitioner and a physician assistant come in saying they were going to run a bunch of tests. OK fine. Well then the money lady comes in saying we have to pay a deposit of $250 because we have a high deductible...we tell her thats not right and to check our insurance again. She then comes back saying she cant find anything different so my husband decides to do her job for her and pulls up on his phone that we only have to pay $100 for our emergency room Co pay....after literally hours of blood draws, urine analysis, X-rays, and ivs they come back saying they arent really set up to take care of children and need to transfer us to a different hospital! Why in the heck would you not say that from the get go?????? And then to top it off, because they had put an iv in her arm they told us we were required to be transported by an ambulance. I asked the PA if we could just drive her because she wasnt attached to an iv bag and he told me no. So in the almost two hours we waited for the ambulance I could have driven my child to primary childrens and back twice. Dont get me started on the paramedics that showed up either. Upon arrival to primary childrens I was charged with yet another emergency room co pay and ended up having to spend the night. Needless to say, Jordan valley wasted thousands of dollars and hours on my child when they couldnt see the job through. I am now stuck with a $2000 ambulance bill because of their lack in communication and sub par care . Thanks Jordan Valley.
