Staff is nice, location and hours are convenient if you live in ashburn, no wait time in lobby, easy to make an appointment (maybe within the day or week you call)...IMO I didnt care for the examination room. They basically take your dog or cat away and bring them back to discuss. I want to be present during any and all examinations so I can see the issues, talk with the vet, calm my dog, etc. I thought that was really odd, ESPECIALLY for their prices. For example what if there is a little mole or something on your dog that you want checked out, if youre there during the exam you could mention that. Knowing this place, if you asked to have a mole or bump or whatever examed they would charge you over $100 in addition to whatever fee youre already paying. Also, it didnt smell like a vet. Maybe Im weird but hospitals always have a certain smell and vets have a smell and they dont have that.. Im not implying by any means that they are incompetent or unsanitary or whatever, its just something I personally noted when I was there. Basically I like the staff, I really like the Doc, shes smart and informative and takes time with you, Ive never felt rushed. That being said, overall its wayy too expensive and they have a lot of "hidden fees". They actually have you sign a treatment plan before you take your pet in yet I still feel like I was always somehow surprised when I checked out, i.e. paying a couple HUNDRED more than I planned. I think some of the test were unnecessary as well. Of course IDEALLY we would get every test on our pets but its sometime not really necessary and/or too expensive. Especially when you dont have a real answer after the test results. Basically if I was rich I would take my pet there. They were super nice and loving to my dog, theyre not super busy so you get undivided attention, Dr. G is awesome, she doesnt rush you plus shes pretty and cool and down to earth too lol. The techs are great too. Very sweet to my dog and seemed to really care about their job and my little pup. But if youre on a budget, I would check out some other places in the area.

I am very upset with the way things went at my visit. I had an appointment for my dogs routine shots and asked if I could also get his nails grinded. The receptionist told me it would cost $20. When it was time for him to go into the back room I could hear someone yelling at him to stop - which for one is not going to calm him down. He comes back into the room and I could immediately tell they were not grounded. They cut his nails without asking me! He also "expressed his anals" as one of the techs called it because he was scared. One of his nails was also bleeding and I had brought that to the Vets attention. After I told the Vet I wanted his nails to be ground instead of cut, they brought in the dremel to fix his nails. After checking out I looked at the invoice and noticed that I was not charged $20 but I was charged $33!! It is not okay to be charged an amount that was not discussed, nor was it okay to have his nails CUT when I specifically asked for it to be GROUND!! I called after I had left and she told me that the reason why I was charged more was because it took 3 people to cut his nails. That sounds completely ridiculous! I normally go to petsmart to have his nails ground and it does not take 3 people to hold him, and they have never made any of his nails bleed! I expected more from AHAH to grind his nails especially when I was supposed to be paying $20 versus the $12 at petsmart! I told the receptionist it would have been nice to be notified that it was going to cost me more than what she had previously told me. I have been coming here since he was a puppy and Ive always had great service until today. The vet tech who was assisting (Kelly) was not at all what I would expect from AVAH - she was not friendly to me or Porkchop. I want to be reimbursed for his nail cut/grinding. I called the following day to follow up because they did not reply to me, and all the office manager did was argue with me. She was no help at all! Never going there again!

The front desk staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. Unfortunately they were more knowledgeable and friendly than the doctors. We brought our guinea pig here after she broke her bottom two teeth. After inspection the doctor said "Hmm I dont know what this is, let me go back and think about it." After 5 minutes of "thinking about it" she returned with a large print out of "Caring for a Guinea Pig" and suggested we read it. Weve cared for this guinea pig for 4 years, I think we know how to take care of her. We were looking for a professional diagnosis of WHY her teeth had fallen out, not a slap in the face handbook of how to care for a guinea pig. We would have preferred a simple "I honestly dont know what is going on, you may want to try x or y specialist" but instead we were told how to take basic care of an animal. The doctor was also very rude and argumentative. We are not idiots, we did research on the problem and then decided to bring the pig in to the vet. When questioning the doctor or saying something contrary to what she was telling us, we were met with an attitude. To top it all off, the doctor gave us incorrect instructions on how to give the medicine to our pig. After questioning her instructions, she gave us an attitude and told us to do it however we wanted. When we were checking out, the receptionist had to tell us the correct delivery method for the medicine that the doctor prescribed. I would not recommend Ashburn Village Animal Hospital. We ended up paying $80 and walked about with an internet print out of how to take care of a guinea pig.

I agree with all the reviews on this site. We had two dogs until yesterday. One had skin lesions that did not seem to get any better. The female doctor there did not bother to run any other tests on our one dog with the issues for three months and just kept doing laser treatments and put her on all kinds of creams and meds. Only after Dr. Velling saw her three months later did he state that these were not skin lesions and did a biopsy on her which came out positive for cancer. The female doctor simply called us one Sat morning and stated that the biopsy was positive for cancer, however she wasnt the doctor that had spent much time with our dog so she cant tell if there is any treatment or not, well have to wait until Monday for that...have a good day! We tried all the treatments we could for her and the female doc pretty much told us you have two options: euthanesia or hospitalization. Only after I called back several times and asked over and over again if there was anything else we can do such as pain management or hospice care did she finally recommend Wholistic Paws which is owned by Dr. Erwin. Having her provide holistic care for our dog during her last days was the best decision of our lives, however why did we have to ask for that without automatically being an option?? We lost our dog on Tues and will always love and cherish her. However, as others have mentioned other than Dr. Velling, I would not recommend any other docs in this practice. The front staff is great and helpful as others have said.
