It started off really well and went downhill from there. I have a rare and large breed mastiff dog. Wed had a bad experience with her @ another local vet that left us all rather traumatized at 12 wks, and so for her next vet visit and regular vaccines, we looked elsewhere. White Oak was thrilled to see her there and assured us they were not biased against certain breeds, had tons of large breed experience etc etc. Our 1st visit was with Dr Pepper - she did a great job acclimating herself to my dog. She took a lot of extra time to make sure my puppy had a good experience. I felt very comforted and so did my dog. By the end of our visit there my baby was paws-up on the counter asking for while still nervous was very accepting of the experience. I visited there on a few more occasions and had zero problems including things my dog just isnt fond of, like toenail clippings. Never growled, never snapped, never snarled or did anything but look pathetic and midly nervous. Just recently we took my 2 dogs in for thenew flu vaccine required before boarding. My husband went with "my girls" this time and saw Dr. Dunn who demanded that my dog be muzzled. First off, none of my dogs has EVER shown the first sign of aggressionr. She is behaved in the waiting area, has been trained to lie down and be submissive when she meets other dogs who might not be so nice, etc. We are not inexperienced large dog owners. My husband (not knowing any better that I would disagree with it) just agreed to the muzzling. Well, anyone who knows dogs knows that if people behave timidly around a dog, it can make even a nice dog nervous. Muzzling a dog when its not necessary can only make things worse by creating a new negative experience. Heres the kicker- even WITH the muzzle, Dr. Dunn asked my husband to hold my dogs head! In any case, I told my husband upon returning for boarding to please place in notes that we do not want our dogs muzzled, and that we prefer to not have her be seen by Dr. Dunn because no one else there has ever required it. He should have grown a spine and just said he was not comfortable and allowed another Dr to see the dog. Upon picking the dogs up from weekend boarding, we received a note from Dr. Dunn that said the vets there are in agreement that if they require a dog to be muzzled, then thats the way it is and if we dont like it, she can be seen elsewhere. Well, let me tell you, she will be seen elsewhere. Conversely, Dr. Pepper and Dr. DeLauter had both commented to me that they found my dog to be a "big baby" and "totally manageable" and she is. I do understand that dogs can bite out of fear but that requires a dog to be fear-aggressive and NOT just afraid. I spend on average with regular care and boarding about $2500+ per year (big dogs- big problems- big money) and Im happy to take it elsewhere. I suggest you do, too.

I recently switched to WhiteOak after my previous vet relocated. I have many pets (4 dogs/3 cats). I was happy the first visit with one of my dogs, 2nd visit with a cat, I saw Dr Skarbek and wasnt overly pleased but stayed only because the place came highly recommended. My dog Penny started having seizures and we saw Dr Horner and was happy; she sent us to a neurologist in Richmond. We were to continue with local vet and see neuro as needed. My dog Penny went one month before the seizures came back; this time Dr Skarbek was available. Penny was having a seizure as she was called back; the first thing Dr Skarbek asked was if I was ready to put Penny down? At this point we didnt know why she was having seizures, so obviously I said no!. She stayed at the hospital that day and I was pleased with her care. I was instructed to call if she had seizures so they could be noted in her chart. Penny had bloodwork done and I never got the call about pathology report so I called. I was told by Dr Skarbek that she didnt feel comfortable continuing taking care of Penny due to her "advanced condition". I hung up completely in shock and feeling like my dog was thrown away! I was given no other options or recommendations. Penny has since died of a brain tumor. We had to find a new to put her down; we found a kind vet that came to our house to put her to sleep. I will let everyone know of the heartless care we received from this doctor; she has no people skills at all. If this was my practice she wouldnt be working there! Even with the bad care we got from her, I do still praise Dr Delauter, Dr Horner, the front desk staff and vet assistants.

I dont normally write reviews but this place deserves every bit of 5 stars! We recently started taking our older dog here and the staff are absolutely amazing at White Oak. Not only are their Vets wonderful but the customer service is just fabulous all around. They made us feel so welcomed. I recently went into our last vet (not white oak) to see if they could just give me some advice for our two very sick dogs and they refused to give me advice because I didnt bring our dogs with and we didnt go there anymore. I then drove over to White Oak in desperate help of finding something over the counter to give our dogs in the meantime until I could take them in and the lady at the desk went and asked the vet for me and when she came back, all of my questions were answered and she even wrote down something i can give them over the counter. I will forever be using White Oak for all of our animals! I have never been so happy and trustworthy in a place as I am at White Oak Animal Hospital.

Up until last year wed had great experiences with White Oak Animal Hospital. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly, and the service was excellent. All four of our cats were patients there and we had nothing but good things to say about them. Then we started noticing a rapid decline in the quality of care they gave, and that staff members were moving to other clinics and hospitals. Then they seriously misdiagnosed pancreatic cancer in one of our cats as hairballs, chewed us out for using one of their reserved "emergency" slots, forced the cat to take a hairball remedy that she could not keep down, and sent us home. She died at an emergency vet later that same night. I will not and can not recommend this place to anyone for any reason. My advice is to avoid it at all costs.

I just wanted to take a minute to say how completely amazing the staff at WOAH is! I came in today with a baby strapped to the front of me, a toddler hanging off one hand and a VERY excited 18 month golden retriever dragging us around even with a hurt paw. The staff swooped in and relieved me of the crazy puppy, took us back to a room immediately and even came in and entertained my toddler when he started to cry because they took his dog to the back for tests. Plus they checked us out in the exam room so I didnt have to wrangle the dog and the kids and pay our bill! Oh and the bill was seriously 3x less then our old vet with 5x the customer service!!! I highly highly recommend them :)!
