I have been recently diagnosed with Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus which is also known as MRSA. It is a Staph infection that is very contagious, painful, and life threatening. Isuffered abscesses on your skin, high fever, body aches, headache, and a blood infection. I became very ill and rushed to Mt. Hood Medical Hospital in February. The doctor lanced the abscess, cleaned it, gave me antibiotics and sent me home. I returned to the hospital 24 hours later with a 105 degree fever. A different doctor followed the same procedure, drain, clean and antibiotics. Both doctors did a blood culture and a culture of the actual abscess.. I was instructed to follow up with my primary care physician, Dr. Steven Lu of Vancouver Primary Care. At the follow up appointment Dr. Lu spent approximately four minutes observing the packed wound, covered it, and sent me on my way. I asked him to go over the lab results and further explain them. He was in a hurry and coincidentally my insurance was expired. A month later, I drove to Vancouver, B.C. when all of these symptoms returned times ten. The Staph bacteria was resistant to the antibiotic the doctors prescribed. My entire body broke out in red bumps, fever chills, pain. I sought treatment in Canada and started to take Clindamycin which my Staph is also resistant to. When I cam home back to Portland, I called my PCP Dr. Lu and left a message to please call me back. It was ignored. Coincidentally, I no longer had insurance. I started to do my own research because I was not feeling well. I had constant fevers, fatigue, lack of sleep, painful skin infections and sores, I didnt want to get out of bed. I finally sought treatment with Dr. Jennifer Slack with Cascade Physicians. She ordered the lab results and began treating me for MRSA. I have to go through a decolonization process because my body is overwhelmed with staph bacteria. I have been suffering with this dangerous infectious disease since early February until currently. My concerns are the contagiousness of this disease and why it took four months before I knew my body was overtaken by flesh eating bacteria. Did I spread this disease? Even with all the tests and cultures, I did not receive one phone call or notice of my susceptible and contagious disease, but I was left with high medical bills to pay. Thank you Dr. Steven Lu for your lack of care and concern, greed for money, and plain negligence. Im still struggling with MRSA infections. I have never been so sick in my life and it is extremely disappointing Dr. Steven Lu didnt return my phone calls at my most vulnerable time. I was his patient for two years. I must give a special thanks to Dr. Jennifer Slack of Cascade Physicians. I feel like you saved my life because I didnt have anywhere to turn to and thanks to your accurate prognosis and diagnosis, Im on my way to recovery.

I have never been treated so horrible in my life by a doctor. I just recently got on insurance & it took me a month to get set up with his clinic. I had injured my back about 2 months previous & was in urgent care. It hadnt gotten better, so decided to have a follow up with Dr. Lu. His attitude from the moment he walked into the room was crap. He first went over my history, I had previously had back injuries over the years and he was more concerned with why I didnt get care then, then treating me now. He was more concerned with what kind of insurance I have then the fact that I was experiencing some pretty serious symptoms of something much worse than a pulled muscle. I just wanted a MRI or something to make sure I didnt have serious damage. The whole time he kept repeating "What do you want me to do, I cant do anything" & "Why didnt they do one at the urgent care?" & "If they didnt do one, you dont need one". Well, I can tell you that they didnt do one cause they thought it was just a pulled muscle & thought it would heal, but they said that if it didnt get better to see a primary for a follow up. Hello? Im not a doctor & seemed to know more of what to do next then him. I ended up leaving in tears & he didnt seem to care much. Lets just say, I wont be going back, even if my life depends on it. Nobody deserves to be treated that way, nobody!

Dr Lu is a capable Dr but some of his policies are way outside of what is considered routine. I.E, "Schedule III or IV, which is a prescription drug as determined under RCW 69.04.560, may not be dispensed without a written or oral prescription of a practitioner. Any oral prescription must be promptly reduced to writing. The prescription shall not be filled or refilled more than six months after the date thereof or be refilled more than five times, unless renewed by the practitioner". Requiring an office visit for "every" sched III refill is quite legal [but ethically suspicious] to have as a policy. Collecting an office visit/ copay in exchange for the script w/o any action [exam] speaks for itself. Logic suggests this mentality will carry over to other fiscal areas. Stay clear and you will save time and money!
