I have been going to Beltline Animal Hospital for over 6 years and have always received wonderful service. The staff is well informed and very pleasant also! Dr. Karlburg is great at taking the time to explain in depth about any questions you may have about your pets health and lets you know about upcoming issues, like teeth cleaning, but does not "push" them until it is necessary. I asked about teeth cleaning for my cockapoo, Sam at age three and the doc explained that larger dogs require less frequent teeth cleaning than other breeds and he would let me know when it was appropriate. Sure enough now at age 8, Sam was due for a cleaning and the doc found a recently cracked molar that needed extraction. Not only did the timing work out perfectly but during the cleaning when it was discovered, Dr. Karlburg contacted me, explained the situation, gave me his opinion and got my blessing before going ahead with the extraction! It was very inexpensive, but the fact that he called and explained that he caught it early and it was not causing Sam pain yet (He indicated that we would have known if it was) but would be soon so he thought it best to do it now meant so much to me as a customer! He saved my pet unnecessary pain and when I picked up Sam I was given the extracted tooth! It was obviously cracked, and had been so for a while. I am so grateful for everything doc and the staff have done for my "boys" over the years, and this is just one example. I recommend Beltline animal hospital with no reservations what so ever! Heather has been grooming Sam and Cubbie for years and I love the way they look and smell every time! I take the boys on a regular basis for check ups and grooming ( the price you pay for dogs that dont shed!- worth it) and they never fight going in the door. That alone tells me that they are well taken care of. Thank you so much to the entire staff at Beltline Animal Hospital.

Weve been bringing our dog here for the last 3.5 years (since we got him). Dr. Karlburg is a little "gruff" but is nothing but gentle with the animals. He even talks baby talk to them (not just to our dog either. Some times we can hear him in other rooms with other pets). Our dog had multple throat infections in his first year. Dr. Karlburg was nothing but concerned and tried him on a different medication because he thought maybe the one from the first few infections wasnt working. Our dog had surgery twice in the first year or two. Once to remove a baby tooth and once for a tumor directly on/above his eye. For the first surgery (the tooth), our dog stayed overnight so they could monitor his reaction to being put under (since he never was before). When we went to pick him up the next day, it took a while to catch him because he was playing outside. For the second surgery, Dr. Karlburg recommended we wait and see if the tumor goes away on its own (I dont remember what it was called, but apparently its common and can just go away) before we surgically remove it, since its so expensive. However, it got bigger, not smaller, and Dr. Karlburg was great. Our dog since then rammed his foot into the window and started limping and I called Dr. Karlburg on the phone in a panic. He was great on the phone and told me to bring him in. Our dog "walked it off" a few minutes later (I totally overreacted) and Dr. Karlburg was very nice when we called back to cancel. I did once see Dr. Karlburg get upset when a woman refused to pay to treat her dogs ear infection (Dr. Karlburg wasnt her regular vet. She just wanted an ear hair trim). Dr. Karlburg has been nothing but great to us.

Dr. Karlburg was horrible! First, my kitty was scared when he was trying to check her ears and he shoved her face down really hard and had a very frustrated and violent energy to him. I asked if I could help and he said "No, I got this!" Then, he told me I should get her back declawed! Any GOOD vet will tell you NOT to get the cat back declawed because they need that for protection. He told me she was likely deaf and it turns out she was not! He said 50% of white cats with odd colored eyes are deaf but that is not true...I researched it as he should have and it is cats with blue eyes and pure white cats not ones with spots! I asked him if he could clean her ears for me as all my previous vets would and that I was having difficulty doing it myself and he did not! They told me the visit would be 30 and it ended up being 46 for an initial visit and they knew I was new when I called and inquired about the initial office fee! This vet seemed to charge a lot for horrible, quick service and I am surprised he has a license to practice with the little knowledge and lack of bed-side manner he has! I would HIGHLY recommend going to any other vet in madison..RUN, RUN away from this vet!

Terrible, Terrible Vet! Dont go to this place! I brought my dogs there for two years and he did nothing but charge me outrageously for everything. I started going to a new vet and had my dogs records faxed from him to them and even the new vet says he seems to have prescribed the most expensive medication every time! Dr. Karlberg was very rude, especially to my wife when she would bring our dogs in for treatment. Very arrogant, rude, and certainly not up to snuff as a veterinary practitioner. One of my dogs were treated for "allergies" for two years, at a cost of $200+ per visit every 2-3 months. Come to find out from the new vet that her condition is actually a bacterial infection that was never properly treated. It is now completely cured and she is better 100%. This guy just strung us along for years, banking on his prescription income off our visits. Do yourself a huge favor and avoid this place and this "Vet" like the plague!!

My parents started going to Dr. Karlburg about 30 years ago, and now I several of the other kids do as well. We have never had anything but the best service and he has always answered our questions. One of our dogs was recently sick and we took her to see Dr. Karlburg. Doc ran some test and took some X-rays. He told us that she had a growth that might be cancer, but because of the placement of the tumor we had two choices. He could go in and operate and remove what it was or he could refer us to another vet that would be able to do an MRI and get a better picture. We opted to see the other vet, and Dr. Karlburg only charged us for the office visit. My family’s 20 plus dogs and cats have always gotten great treatment and the people have always been professional.

I did leave Dr K. after 2 years as like many folks said, I didnt like his prickly personality, but for the most part he treated my dog with utmost respect. I will say the last time I went for a check up it seemed haphazard and he barely spent anytime examining her. Another thing I didnt like, for the past year or so when Id go in there was no one at the front desk and there was no bell or anything to ring so Id have to wait...sometime up to 10 minutes before Dr. K. would come back into the lobby. I only saw Dr. K at the clinic there was never any other staff. Pricewise I cant say as I came from Chicago and his prices were Chicago prices, actually a little more. I am going to a new vet and will update my review after I see pricing.
