I brought my elderly cat to Ocotillo Animal Clinic to have a limp addressed. I requested that Dr. Beck examine my cat because, according to a site I frequent, she supports raw diets. While Dr. Beck is raw friendly, she is not raw savvy. So if you are looking for a vet that can give you information regarding home-made diets, I would go elsewhere. Dr. Beck and the technician that handled my cat were a bit rough with her. I ended up leaving my cat in their care for several hours and when I got back, the technician told me that my cat had urinated on herself. This was upsetting because my cat has never been one to urinate out of fear. I am guessing it had something to do with how they were handling her. Dr. Beck gave me lots of miscellaneous information, but did not go into lots of detail. I had to do most of the talking (which consisted of me asking questions) because she was just not giving much to work with. She would identify a medication that I could use on my cat, but would not explain what it did, how long I should use it for, etc. As a result, I left the clinic feeling pretty confused. Things got worse the day after my appointment, when Dr. Beck called me to go over my cats blood work. She started out by telling me that my cat is in the early stages of kidney disease (which is incurable). She did not go into much detail about this diagnosis, other than to say that I could monitor her phosphorous levels. I was in so much shock, that I did not know what to say (or ask), so Dr. Beck moved on. Next, she told me that my cat might have a UTI. She asked me some questions about my cats urine and litter box use and then stopped talking about it. We went on to talk about her limp (only because I brought it up) and we got off the phone shortly thereafter. The phone call was very rushed, as Dr. Beck had called me 10-minutes before the clinic was scheduled to close. I am glad I asked for copies of my cats blood work because her urinalysis shows that she has blood in her urine. This is a clear indication that my cat has a UTI. I am upset with Dr. Beck because she should have recommended that I come back in to have my cat treated for a UTI. She also should have known that a UTI can make it seem like a cat has kidney disease. She should have addressed my cats possible UTI before dropping something like that on me. To make a long story short, I will not be going back to Ocotillo Animal Clinic. UPDATE: I went to a different vet to have my cats UTI and supposed kidney disease addressed. Ocotillo Animal Clinic was supposed to e-mail my new vet, my cats records, but an e-mail was never sent (luckily I had some records with me, just in case). The vet went over my cats blood work with me and told me that my cat does not have kidney disease. She said that it looks like my cat definitely has an infection. She prescribed an antibiotic and collected a sample of my cats urine (which will help determine what type of bacteria is present). She went over another diagnoses that Dr. Beck had made. Dr. Beck told me that my cat had a yeast infection and had given me some ear drops to treat it with. Dr. Beck did not perform a skin scrape and, according to the other clinic I went to, she should have (you cannot identify yeast unless you see in under a microscope). I had a skin scrape done at my new clinic; my cat did test positive for yeast, but she also tested positive for cocci. The medicine Dr. Beck gave me only treats yeast infections so if had I just followed her advice, my cat would still have an ear infection. She would also still have an untreated UTI and I would be under the impression that my cat has a fatal, incurable disease. I regret ever bringing my cat to Ocotillo Animal Clinic. I would like to note that my cat did not pee all over herself while in my new vets care. This was something she only did at Ocotillo Animal Clinic. If your pet is scared of your vet or your clinics staff, you should probably go somewhere else.

I CAN NOT say enough nice things about Dr. Lister and the staff at Ocotillo Animal Clinic. The front office staff was very polite and friendly. They got us checked in promptly and helped us with any questions I had. Rosemarie, Judy and the other ladys at the front desk have been so helpful. The moment they saw my puppy and I come in they would call to the back and have Lori or Brittanie come up and get my pup. On our first visit we had Dr. Beck and Lori that helped us out. We found out that our new puppy had parvo. I cannot say enough nice things about Lori and how she helped us get all of the info we needed, she gave us the time we needed in the room to make a plan. Lori was realistic and let us know the odds of our little guy making it. I really like that she gave us the facts. I would rather know the worst case and hope for the best, than get my hopes up and have the worst situation possible happen. She is the best vet tech ever. Because of the puppy having parvo we were up there every day dropping him off. Lori and Brittanie took care of him majority of the time and Dr. Lister was the one to give me report on him 4 out of the 6 days he was there. My husband and I were always asked if we had any questions, if we had any concerns and what we thought about the treatment plan as we took him home for the night. I love that the line of communication was open and always there making me feel comfortable about whose hands he was in. I would recommend Dr. Lister and the clinic to everyone I know. I am SO pleased with how everything went. I appreciate the love I received and I was actually sad to take my pup home because of the staff getting so attached to him. I thank everyone there for being so passionate about what you do and your love for animals. Without you (specifically Lori, Brittanie and Dr. Lister) I dont think little Loki would have made it. Thank you for everything you do.

MISDIAGNOSED OUR CAT; THOUGHT SHE WAS TERMINALLY ILL My wife and I drove roughly 15-miles to get to Ocotillo Animal Clinic. I wish I could say it was worth it, but it wasn’t. Dr. Beck incorrectly diagnosed our cat with Chronic Kidney Disease. For those of you not familiar with this disease, it is incurable and is always fatal. My wife was well aware of this when she received our cat’s diagnosis and as a result, she became horribly distraught—she thought our cat was dying. Dr. Beck gave us practically no information regarding our cat’s diagnosis. She didn’t tell us what stage our cat was in or how much kidney function she had remaining. I’m glad we knew what CKD was because Dr. Beck didn’t even bother to explain that to us. We were doubtful of Dr. Beck’s diagnoses and unhappy with the amount of information she provided, so we went to another clinic for a second opinion. The veterinarian at the other clinic sat down with us and went over all of our cat’s blood work with us—something Dr. Beck didn’t bother to do. The veterinarian told us that some of our cat’s blood values were elevated, but that it was probably because of her high-protein diet. She also said that while they were elevated, they were still within an acceptable range. To put it simply, our cat is completely healthy. I would advise Dr. Beck to do some research on Chronic Kidney Disease as well as appropriate feline blood values. I would like to add that Dr. Beck has not called us once, to check on how our cat is doing. We have several active prescriptions through Ocotillo Animal Clinic, so you’d think she’d call. Not to mention, she still thinks our cat is terminally ill.
