My husband and I are visiting Sun City West for two months from Glens Falls, NY. We had a very scary Monday March 20th, but thanks to Dr Winston and his staff, our fears were overcome. We travel with our two mini dachshunds. One of our boys became sick late Sunday evening. After being up with him vomiting many times during the night, then having him develop diarrhea, we knew he needed more help than we could give him. I made a phone call to Sun City West Animal Hospital and was told we could come in around 1:30, but we would probably have to wait awhile. Well, we waited maybe 15 minutes and were taken into an examination room. Dr Winston came in and evaluated our boy. After blood work, he suggested him staying overnight for meds and fluids to combat the dehydration. When we picked him up the next afternoon we were given explicit instructions and we were to call Dr Winston in the evening to let him know how things were going. Wow! I told him things seemed to be going fine and unless he wanted to, there was no need for him to call us back. Well, Dr Winston called anyway to make sure everything was going ok. We are very impressed with Dr Winston and his practice. I hope we dont need his services again, but if we do, he will be the first vet we call.

The worst place ever! We had to go here to have our puppy that we rescued spayed, and thankfully it did not happen. I dropped our dog off at 8 am and at 130 I recieved a phone call saying that the surgery was not done because she threw up 6 times while at the office. I immediately went to the office to get my puppy, when I did I was telling the techs that she has seperation anxiety issues and they asked why and I explained that she does not like being alone and how nervous it makes her etc. and they kept on pushing the issues that she had food posioning or the stomach flu. When I asked if they had any medications or suggestions that I could have for the time we were resecheduled to go they ignored my request and kept on insisting that it wouldnt happen again. So I took her home and then watched her for the rest of the day and she did not throw up, ate her kibble fine and had normal bowel movements. Then 4 days later we found ticks through out her coat, and we know that they were not from our house because we have never seen ticks on her before. I was horrified by this whole experice and am so thankful that we are able to take her to someplace different to have this proceedure done. I would stay away from them if I were you!

Every other vet Ive been to has tried to sell me stuff, and talked me into expensive procedures that didnt seem necessary. In the past I knew Id end up with a $300+ bill no matter what the issue was, so I spent a lot of time debating whether I should take my dog in or not. It was a pleasant shock when I realized that Dr. Winston wasnt even going to ask me what food I fed my dog or tell me I needed to buy an expensive dog shampoo. He tells you the possible ways of addressing your pets problem, and what he recommends, and then lets you decide, with no guilt trips. I think hes doing a great service to the elderly pet owners of Sun City West by providing affordable care. The cost for my puppys vaccinations ended up being just a bit more than the animal shelters vaccination clinic, which was totally worth not driving 45 minutes and standing in line for an hour. He also is available to consult by phone until 10pm if you have an emergency, which is great when you have a puppy wholl eat anything. The office isnt luxurious, and Dr. Winston is really busy, so hes not the vet to go to if you want someone who will spend a lot of time listening to your concerns. But hes kind and thorough and offers excellent care.

i took my elderly pomeranian to be put down. i was put into a white room with no windows for about 20 minutes. i held my much loved little dog in my arms and felt his breathing and heartbeat against my chest. the vet came in and very fast gave him a sedative and left again. i continued holding my much loved boy and rocked him in my arms and cried, after about another 20 minutes the vet came back in put my boy on the table and gave him the final injection, and then the vet left the room , telling me i could stay with the body as long as i wanted to stay. i picked my poohbear up and held hi slifeless body in my arms for awhile. then i wrapped his little dead body in a towel that was there on the table and made my much loved boy looked as loved and comfortable as possible. I left the clinic, sat in my car until i could stop crying enough to drive home. it was the most lonely experience i have had putting down one of my dogs.

Dr. Winston has been my 3 Chihuahuas vet for 10 years. My former vet told me one my dogs had an enlarged heart and she was on blood pressure meds. for 3 years when I moved to AZ. The dog was then 8 yrs old. Dr. Winston examined my dog and told me her heart sounded fine and my former vet could not have diagnosed an enlarged heart with only an x-ray. He recommended stopping the meds. and she immediately became more animated and seemed healthier than ever. She is now 17 and doing well. I also had a Chihuahua that ran in front of a car last year and broke his pelvis. Dr. Winston saw him immediately and administered pain meds quickly before treating. This dog is completely recovered and healthy. You may have a long wait in his office because Dr. Winston is popular, but worth it to get good care for your animals.

Dr.Winston helped us say goodbye to our 15yr old doxie Gracie in a humane & gentle way last Friday on 9/11. The office staff signed a sympathy card for us a few days later surprising us. This was our first visit at the office to do this difficult choice making room to schedule us after I called in tears that morning. Gracie was a therapy dog & leave me heart broken as well as several gorgeous puppys she leaves behind in the AKC. We have 3 sensitive Salukis who are still looking around the house whining for Gracie that we plan on taking to this caring animal hospital. Its worth the drive for staff that understands our children have paws! Thank you to the "Lauderbacks" for the referral. Thank you Dr. Winston for helping us trust a vet again!

Dr. Josh Winston, vetinarian is the best of the best. Dr. Winston has seen hundreds of our dogs and cats for everything imaginable (kennel cough, parvo, distemper, hip surgery, leg amputations, etc.). He is caring, compassionate, honest and is always available to answer questions. In rescue we have more than one vet and we consider Dr. Winston our main vet and we are willing to travel two hours round trip for his services. Our dogs and cats are healthy and happy because they are in good hands with Dr. Winston. Sincerely, Karen Mikus, Executive Director, P.A.W.S. (Pound Animals Worth Saving) Fur the Cause
