Started on 5/14/2017 DISCLAIMER: I am not on Google, so I used my sons site for the following review (this is the review I also posted on YELP). Second update: I called the Ca. Veterinary Medical Board, in addition to filing the on-line complaint with the Breeze system and filling out the Consumer Complaint Form; I wanted to personally speak with an enforcer and relate to them the horrors this clinic inflicts on its clients and their beloved pets. I spoke with a very professional and warm individual named Terry Perry. She is an enforcer, and she listened empathically to the situation. She encouraged me to send in the Yelp and Google reviews, however, she stated that they cant be used as evidence against the clinic. Ms. Perry encourages ANYONE who has had a nightmare experience, at the hands of this clinic, to file complaints online, in print, and to call the Board directly. We agreed that the reviews most definitely CAN show a pattern of client/vet abuse, on the part of the clinic, and that one of the most egregious things the clinic does is the following: the reviews outline a pattern whereby clients who have called the clinic, PRIOR to bringing their pets in for urgent or emergent care, are never warned by the receptionist that the clinic is understaffed, which it most certainly is, evidenced by the incredible wait times the reviewers have complained of. The receptionist also NEVER warns the prospective clients that they might want to take their pet to the other two emergency pet clinics in North and South County, which I have listed below. These blatant "oversights" on the part of the clinic personnel, whether intentionally cruel or not, stand out as potentially indicating abhorrent greed on the part of the clinic - evidenced by the fact that they knowingly encourage (or dont discourage) anguished pet owners from using their clinic, despite the potential for cruelly long wait times and frantic clients. Get your voices heard - file the complaints, call the Board - and help try to prevent further suffering of the people in our community (and unfortunate pet owners from out of town). Update - Two hours later: after I wrote the below plea to you all, this clinics customers, I filled out my Consumer Complaint Forms for the California Veterinary Board. They were super easy! For the printed hard copy of the forms, I simply printed out ALL of the YELP and GOOGLE reviews on this clinic and attached them to the forms for the investigators to see for themselves what is going on. The on-line Breeze System complaint forms are easy, too. Lets make a difference, NOW! (I wish I had done this years ago, but I was swamped with three, small kids.) Here you go: Hi Folks, Hell hath no greater fury than a woman scorned - especially a woman with a beloved sick dog and three small kids, who adore it, at home: in May of 2013, I had one of the worst experiences of my life, at this clinic, at the hands of a veterinarian named Vet Dan Terhaar. I believe hes still the owner, but Im not sure. PLEASE READ MY YELP REVIEW ON THIS CLINIC FROM 5/26/2017. I was doing a Yelp review, today, on some other business, and just out of curiosity, I thought Id see what is going on with this place, currently. Sure enough, not only has it not changed, but it seems to be significantly worse, as evidenced by the plethora of one stars and truly horrific customer complaints. Also, Google Reviews has a ton of similarly horrific one-star complaints. These complaints are scary stuff! These arent people who are overreacting to stressful situations with sick animals, after hours; these are REALLY serious allegations of animal abuse, neglect, and financial fraud. I didnt have the ability to write a review after my dog had passed away, but now Im ready to speak about our experience with this animal ER clinic. My dog was experiencing vomiting and had fainted so we rushed her to this facility where we waited an hour just for a checkup. Also, they wouldnt even dare look at my dog unless they had $200 in hand just to look at her. Not even for any treatment or medicine that would at least keep her stable for the moment. This was 12 am and there were plenty of people who could of seen her. During that hour, I sat and watched as these people gossiped behind the closed doors and walked back and forth into the lobby, sweeping and mopping, as if they had nothing to do at that moment. We didnt have any money at the time so my brother had called our family members to see if they would be able to help and luckily, they did. Finally, after they had received the payment, they were able to see her. But what I didnt understand was that they left us in a patient room for another half an hour while we still heard them talking. When the doctor walked in, she did a very quick examination and not even less than 5 minutes later, she wanted to do an xray but needed $2,000 right then and there before she could perform one. We didnt have any money to give so we decided to reschedule for the next day to see if we could have the payment for it. I stayed up with my dog all night, praying that she be okay. When 7 a.m. came around, my dog had once again fainted. Instead of taking her back to that facility, we took her to the clinic off of Grand Ave. and Elm St. They immediately took her in without questioning and had us fill out paperwork WHILE they were doing the examination. She had passed away in the examination room and told us that it was too late. They didnt charge us anything. Sometimes I wonder if it was because she didnt get the proper treatment hours before. I wouldnt recommend the Pet ER near Kmart to anyone. They will refuse to help unless they have money and will scam you into giving more money. **after my dog had passed away, we called them back to let them know that we wouldnt need their services any longer. A few days later, we received a sympathy card, one of the things that probably upset me most**

I tried to post an honest and accurate review of this hospital on YELP but the hospital deleted it shortly after. Here is my original review. Unfortunately this is the only option for emergency care in the nearby area but avoid it if you can. My mom took her puppy for his first vaccines yesterday and he had an anaphylactic reaction with severe vomiting and diarrhea and had to take him here overnight. Dr. Wassef told her that it was unlikely related to the vaccines and more likely parvo (even though she has had the puppy for weeks with no clinical signs, has not been outside, and has only been exposed to her other dogs at home who are fully vaccinated and not sick). Parvo test was negative but he said it could still be parvo. They estimated for 24hrs of hospitalization (not wrong since he was very dehydrated) with CBC/Chem and THREE ISTATS. Blood work is necessary and even repeat to keep an eye on any abnormalities but three i stats is stealing money from your client in a 24 hr period. I am a specialty veterinary technician in LA and I would never, nor would my doctors, do unnecessary diagnostics like that. Its a waste of money to the client and cruel to keep poking an animal for no reason. I told her to pick the puppy up so he could be transferred to my hospital immediately. Luckily he is very bright and alert with no vomiting or diarrhea 5 hours after hospitalizing, but they administered only an antiemetic and famotidine. No antidiarrheals or GI protectants and fasted him. Fasting a dog who has diarrhea is ancient practice. The part that makes me the angriest is after paying them $1200+ when she picked the dog up a doctor did not speak to her and her discharge instructions were generic for every pet and said nothing about the treatment plan, diagnosis, prognosis, or anything about the dog specifically. For an expensive 24 hour hospital I would expect more from their hospital and their doctors because this is just lazy medicine. Its a shame because practices like this make us all look bad.
