WORST EXPERIENCE IVE EVER HAD. Although it has been a few years since I made the mistake of bringing my puppy to Melrose La Brea Animal Hospital for emergency care, my experience was so terrible that my family and I still regularly discuss it to this day, so I felt I should report it. From the looks of it, I was not alone in my negative experience. I have never, I repeat, NEVER, had a worse experience in my life. I was moving into my new apartment in Laurel Canyon. I had a 3-month old Australian Shepherd puppy at the time, so I took him with me rather than leave him alone all day. Unfortunately, construction on the apartment had only been completed a few days prior, and we didnt notice all the leftover nails lying around the area. My puppy stepped on one and sliced his paw. He didnt even yelp, but we saw huge drops of blood covering the floor, so we thought we should be safe and take him in to a vet. Being new to the area, we looked up the closest vet using the yellow pages. I wish wed had internet access! Dr. Jordan was the most incompetent man I have ever encountered. He put a MUZZLE on a 3-month old puppy because "you never know what theyll do when theyre in pain." I had been poking, prodding and examining the bloody area for at least 20 minutes and our puppy didnt even notice. He noticed the muzzle though. He went from calm and sweet to absolutely terrified. Just a quick side-note- I have had several dogs, and none of them, including this one (who is now 3 years old) have EVER needed a muzzle, and Ive been to at least 10 other vets. At legitimate veterinary establishments, muzzles are reserved for truly aggressive dogs. His assistants (he need TWO to hold down a 3-month old, 15 pound puppy) clearly had NO training at all... Im not exaggerating when I say I think he picks them up at day-labor sites. The entire episode was turning into a circus act, so I stepped in an calmed our puppy down. When inspecting the wound, Dr. Jordan couldnt even figure out what was going on. His eyes are so bad he couldnt even see where the blood was coming from, or that there was a HUGE flap of skin that clearly needed to be trimmed off of the paw pad. When he began bandaging the paw, I interjected and suggested we cut off the flap and put some antiseptic ointment on the area first. With a surprised look, he exclaimed, "Oh, yeah! That would be a good idea." Even though I did most of the work and the bill was far too high, we just paid and got out of there as fast as possible. There was one upside to the whole experience- I learned that if I dont feel comfortable in a doctors office (pet or human), I have the right to leave at any time. I should have left this place right away. Going here was surreal, to say the least. DO NOT COME HERE.

I sincerly dont know what could have possibly happened to have those other reviewers post the things they did. Dr. Jordon is amazing. I have 2 cats, one almost 20 and the other 14 and I know that the reason they are so healthy is because of his care. When I first came to the office there were 2 older ladies in the lobby that said to me "whatever is wrong with your kitty Dr. Jordan can fix it!" and I though "how cute, he has groupies". It turns out that one of those ladies had to be in a convalescent home for 2 months and she kenneled her dog with Melrose La Brea during that time. . Dr. Jordan personally brought her dog to see her at the home once a week until she got better! She told me he saved her and her dog! As for me personally, I have recieved excellent, loving care from everyone there but, especially Dr. Jordan. There have even been times were I was struggling financially and the doctor found every way possible that he could help me. I never have been to any other vet that cared more about the actual animals and not just the bottom line. He is not one of these polished "hollywood" vets. Hes very old school and I think some folks react to that. His office and style are not flashy but, he brought my cats back from the brink more than once and has kept them healthy and I will never see another vet. I guess now I am a groupie too! I mean this sincerely. If you want an old fashioned, neighborhood vet who loves animals this is your guy.

I called Melrose La Brea Animal Hospital after moving from the San Fernando Valley to Los Angeles because I was looking for a new vet for my 2 cats. The person who answered the phone was not nice at all. When I asked how much a general check up was, he immediately asked me what was wrong with my cat. Nothing was wrong with my cat, and I am just looking for a new vet. I then asked him how much an annual indoor cat vaccine would cost, and he said that he couldnt tell me. It would depend on the exam, he said. The in-house exam would show what vaccines my cats would need. That was the first time I heard that before. He asked me how much I paid for my annual vaccines and when I told him, he said I must have gone to a pet shop to get it done because no vet could beat those prices. I was totally shocked to hear that because I only take my cats to the animal hospitals or veterinarians for their annual check ups and annual vaccines. He also said that the annual vaccines that I got for my cats werent all that they needed. He said that they would need much more than that to be healthy, implying that my previous vet didnt know what he was doing. I was so turned off by the phone call, that I immediately crossed them off my list of potential vets to go while we live in Los Angeles.

He is a beyond frightening. He basically rough housed my puppy for a check up. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! Its almost as if he hates animals. My puppy yelped & was literally shaking and frightened of this man. He is also rude & overpriced. I feel horrible for exposing my dog to this place. I am confident in saying that the rave reviews were written by him. There is no way that any animal lover would appreciate the way he handles animals. I feel sorry for the girl that works there, shes the only positive thing about that creepy place. Extremely frightening experience for both my puppy and I!!!
