I recently adopted a wonderful, scruffy looking, sweet Goldendoodle. Sadly, I no longer have him. He was very sick. After spending a considerable amount of time and money, with no diagnosis forthcoming, emotionally spent, I decided to get a second opinion and hopefully a diagnosis. Based on the reviews, I called Pacific Veterinary Clinic for an appointment. Our appointment was with Dr. Robert Nagell. He patiently listened to my description of the symptoms, reviewed what little paperwork I had, and then examined Nietzsche. And, he was able to give a tentative diagnosis during the first visit, explaining that tests would need to be done to give a diagnosis with clinical certainty. Though not a diagnosis I wanted to hear, it was a relief, at least Nietzsche had a diagnosis and there was hope that he would improve or at least begin to feel better. With changes in medication and following feeding suggestions, Nietzsches condition began to improve; he started to behave more like a normal 12-13(~) month old puppy; he had more energy, ate a shoe (in addition to his food), disobeyed me for the first time, and I was happy. However, in a short period of time his condition began to deteriorate. I called Dr. Nagell and he said that the next step would be to run diagnostic tests. The test not only confirmed Dr. Nagells initial diagnosis, but also showed it to be very severe. As I said, I no longer have Nietzsche; he was too sick, however I am extremely grateful for what I feel was outstanding medical expertise and care. Dr. Nagell was very gentle with Nietzsche, as well as being kind and sensitive (to both Nietzsche and me). When I called with questions, which I did several times, no matter how small he always returned my calls personally, which I very much appreciated. I highly recommend Dr. Robert Nagell and will return to his practice if I ever adopt another dog.

I brought my puppy in because he was having diarrhea and vomiting. First of all, the staff at the desk and the techs are wonderful. Dr. Nagel came in to see my pup, handled him very roughly and got a rectal temperature. The 10 week old pup whined and continued to whine throughout the entire (2 minute) exam as the tech held him in an awkward half-seated, front paws in the air position. This prompted Dr. Nagel to label our pup as having a poor temperament, needing "better training" than what we were giving him and that "some people shouldnt have German Shepherds." He gave an example of a german shepherd dragging an old woman down while on a leash and breaking her hip (Im a 25 year old healthy, athletic guy). When I explained that his leash walking is great and he always stays close and never pulls, he stated that the pup was then "too timid and dependent on me and more willing to snap at people he doesnt know." I cant win. You show me another 10 week old puppy who is housebroken and follows commands diligently to sit, lie down, stay, roll over and shake hands. The finding of a heart murmur in my otherwise perfectly healthy, perfectly trained, energetic pet led him to only give me the scenario of a patent ductus arteriosus (the WORST case scenario) and to recommend a $300 echocardiogram. Any attempt to engage him in a conversation about my dogs health was cut off with his own hurried and quite frankly, offensive retorts. Another review on here described him as offensive and that seems just about right. If you want cheap vaccinations and flea medicine, go here. If you want thorough medical care and explanations from a doctor that cares, visit Dr. Diamond at the Clairemont Village Pet Clinic. You can read my review of his facility on here as well.

First visit we saw Dr. Carol Gabrielson, it was not pleasant for me. First Id like to start by giving the practice some credit because I am an extremely overprotective pet mother to my extremely annoying crybaby 2 year old German Shepherd. He has a very loud ear piercing cry that echoes in the room, he cries until the vet gets in to pay him attention. However, Dr. Gabrielson and her room assistant were visibly irritated and annoyed by my dogs anxiety and his playful nature when having his body examined which really gave off negative vibes that both myself and my dog picked up on. Due to this my dog continued to exhibit anxious behavior and continued to cry. While I know that my dog is a pain, I did not appreciate the way the vet and staff reacted to him. Our second visit we saw Dr. Tracey Hayes, she is fantastic! I loved her and I think my dog loved her even more. He was so comfortable with her and her assistant that he did not cry once when they entered the room. She fed him treats and gave him affection which really goes a long way with myself and my dog. She was very understanding of my dog being uncomfortable with his ears and teeth being examined, however, my dog actually seemed relatively comfortable allowing her to examine him. He was so relaxed he lounged around in the room the whole time we could hardly get him to stand up (which is a good thing, usually he is all over the place trying to investigate the counter tops and sneak out the doors). I would highly recommend her. Even given our first experience here, this practice was 100% better than North Park pet hospital where they are aggressive and inattentive. I would definitely recommend this practice as a whole to any San Diego residents looking for a new vet.

I have been bringing my 3 cats and 1 dog to this company since birth. (for 5 years now) Ive never been disapointed in their service and care for my cats and dog. They keep records for years and its very well organized. They notify you when vaccinations are due in advance and give your estimates of how much it will be in order to prepare your budget. Ive read through a few 2 star reviews and noticed complains and reviews based of exam costs for several animals and high prices. My response to this: Have you asked to have the costs waived due to you bringing several animals or just because its not meeting your current budget? THey have for me. Ive had exam fees waved for bringing multiple animals in at once and since I had back to back appointmnets they waived them as well. They also have a military discount avaialable. They sometimes forget to apply the discount but its noted on the receipts and you can ask for a refund for the difference and they WILL give it to you! Just ask =). Some people are really quick to be opinionated when you can simply ask for things. Its a business people they are there to make money but they will be very understanding to your needs as well. I have Dr. Young for my guys. Shes very good and cares for my animals. If I lose my receipts or records, Ive called them back and they have all those records and have emailed them to me the same day. They have even given me all the applicaple information I need to ship my dog overseas when I had orders. It is a reliable and dependable company to go to. Just dont be afraid to ask questions to these people and dont be quick to judge them.
