If you have a loved one that needs to be weaned off a ventilator, I highly recommend Kindred Hospital! I transferred my mom from the ICU in Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose to Kindred on September 10, 2015. I had heard good things about Kindred from friends of mine which helped me to make this big decision! She was in a regular room the first day we got here but got pneumonia and was put in the ICU the second day... Where she continues to be as she is still very sick. I cannot say enough about the extraordinary staff that Kindred has as they truly make me and my mom feel like we are a part of their incredible family! The team of outstanding people from the CEO (Jake McCarty), to the Patient Relations (Audra), to the Case Manager (Ioni) to ALL the doctors (Saxena, Nakagawa, Niaki, Vahid, Lee and Kumar just to name a few) nurses (Susan, Navi, Florence, Irine, Emma, Jenny Lee, Ericka, Richard, Lilani, Lori, Maria, Clifford, Ludnilla and Darlene just to name a few) respiratory therapists (Babette, Jeff, Jessica, Tadela and Mike just to name a few), speech therapist (Patty), X-ray techs, Laura (always smiling, positive, helpful and compassionate) at the front desk, the custodial staff, truly everyone here works with you and goes above and beyond to help your loved one to be comfortable and help them to get better!! I drive 2+ hours each way 6 days a week to see my mom, as I live in Hollister. It kills me to be so far away but I have comfort in knowing my mom is in the best hands that she can be in! I call the nurses consistently throughout the day to make sure my mom is ok. The nurses and staff are always kind to take the time to give me an update on my moms condition! I am so grateful and will never forget the team for their professionalism, dedication, compassion and care they show me and my mom! I dont know what the future holds for my mom as I dont know how much strength her body has to continue fighting these battles she faces! I can tell you that I am grateful for every day I have with her and continue to pray for the miracle! I know that my mom is gettng the best care available and she is the strongest woman I know! Praying she wins this battle!!! Thank you so much, Carolyn Homan

My mom was transferred to Kindred from San Leandro hospital, and the contrast between the service and personal attitude between San Leandro and Kindred was striking. Back in San Leandro hospital my mom was happy - nurses were friendly and willing to help, but after being transferred to Kindred, all she could talk about is how unprofessional, lazy, rude and inconsiderate the nurses at Kindred are. My mom had a surgery and could not walk for a while, so when she needed to go potty, no one would come to help her for at least 30-40 minutes, and then for 30-40 minutes after she was done. My mom said that when she asked nurses for assistance with anything, they would respond "just wait, we have a ratio of 5 to 7 patients per nurse, youre not the only one here" and just walk out of the room. Doctors are apparently being "worked to death" there as well, because they are impossible to get a hold of to speak with, and if youre lucky enough to finally speak with a doctor, they try to finish the conversation as soon as possible and split. It was so obvious that one time I even had to raise my voice at a doctor that was trying to split while I was still talking saying "EXCUSE ME, DOC, I AM STILL TALKING TO YOU!!!" It was so bad, that my brother and I had to complain to the administration on a few occasions. IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE, STAY AWAY FROM THIS JOINT!

I was unfortunate enough to be stuck in this place I tried my hardest every day to get out of there I was stuck in a room with this woman who was suffering some kind of sevre diaper rash it was horrifying. They were just drug her every day but she was in so much pain constantly screaming Jesus help me and I had to listen to that every day I was stuck on a tube feed diet and I was stuck in a room with people eating regular food it sucked. The doctors and a few of the CNAs were nice but some of the CNAs and RNs were horrible I was in excruciating pain every day and was treated like a drug addict. Then one day when the floor RN supervisor was there She heard Me in my room screaming in pain and then they finally gave me some medicine. That is was after about two weeks. I got diaper rash multiple times it was horrible then I got diaper rash multiple times it was horrible, then there was this African dude who had the worst breath and he would give me my Baths. feel bad for the multiple old people who are stuck here who dont have family or anybody to care about them I just pray that God will take care of them. Do not I repeat do not send your family members here this place is hell on earth.

This is a very scary place. I would recommend a patient advocate be with your loved one at all times. The nurses are understaffed and overworked causing them to make mistakes and use poor judgment. One example was the fact they did not follow protocol giving insulin injections, signing off in the system that dosage had been checked by 2nd nurse when it had not. Suction tubing became grossly filthy and even then I had to demand it be changed. When my daughter needed suction, I always had to search for nurse as call button response takes 15-30 minutes. Visiting hours/rules are draconian. I believe they want you out of there at 9:00 pm to avoid scrutiny. Thank God my daughter was there only a few days, as her feeding tube became dislodged and she ran fever due to infection. I truly feared for her safety while she was at Kindred.

my mother is a patient here at kindred. We have been welcomed from the day we toured the facility and continue to be this day. The staff is very hard working and we as a family understand that they are busy. However, although they have a busy workplace, they still tend to the needs of patients from what we observe. I would recommend this hospital. I am not saying that they are perfect, and some staff can honestly work on their social skills, but overall we are checked on by staff daily even with being supplied snacks, soft drink beverages and coffee which is nice. We remain hopeful for the discharge of my mother . Thanks kindred!!

I am writing this as Kindred has taking really good care of my family member. the rehab team and OT was excellent. respiratory team also did a great job. I would like to that the nursing staff and other individuals whom helped orient us on board and rounding daily with a great attitude as this place is very busy. Also Kindred has a great policy in individuals whom to access if issues are to be handled and a good case management team of individuals whom kept us updated of next steps. I know its a busy place and the only concerns was with the ratio as these nurses are often working hard and seem to be understaff.
