My wife and I have been here a few times. We have had good experiences with each Doctor weve seen and with a Nurse Practitioner. Good docs, but absolutely abysmal office staff. Three weeks ago I went in for a cough and received a couple of prescriptions. On my prior visit I had asked them to submit the prescriptions to the pharmacy for me. They said they would and did not. After waiting at the pharmacy for an hour I returned to the Doctors office and was told again that they had been faxed, so I returned to the pharmacy. No prescriptions. I returned to the Doctors office AGAIN and insisted on paper copies to end this stupid cycle because the Doctors office staff refused to call the pharmacy and confirm receipt of the fax. So on this most recent visit I told the office staff Id had problems on the previous visit and asked for a paper copy up front. The older (50s maybe) woman refused to take the trouble of printing it out instead insisting that it had been faxed and the pharmacy would have it. Of course, they did not. I had to return to the doctors office again and get a paper copy. This may sound trivial, but when you have a fever and feel like crap spending two plus hours haggling with office bureaucrats and going back and forth between Doctor’s office and pharmacy simply because the office staff is too lazy to call the pharmacy and confirm receipt sucks. Fast forward three weeks. My wife injured her knee skiing. Went in for an exam and was given a recommendation to have an MRI. This is something the office staff needed to send to the imaging center. 11 days have passed and more than a dozen phone calls. Same exact scenario. Office staff refusing to provide us with a paper copy so we can get my wife some HELP while refusing to CALL and SPEAK with the imaging center to confirm the fax is going to the correct destination. 11 days my wife has been waiting for an MRI because this lazy, bureaucratic office staff refuses to lift a finger to actually provide healthcare. Today is Friday. We finally are able to schedule with the imaging clinic. If we do that Monday, then we have a two day wait for results. Wednesday. Then we can get her to a specialist to find out if her ACL is torn. At a minimum it will be 16 days from the time my wife saw the doctor until she can get a follow up visit with the specialist and get some answers and begin treatment. ALL BECAUSE THIS OFFICE STAFF IS TOO LAZY TO MAKE A PHONE CALL Even when they know there is a problem.

This practice used to be okay, never great, but nowadays their service is abysmal. They drop the ball at every turn. Examples from the past year: 1: billed for services that were not provided. Contested through billing department, still not notified of resolution though its been 8 months. 2: scheduled a procedure to have a small "suspicious" bump removed, upon arrival, they didnt know what I was referring to and asked me to schedule another appointment. When asked for refund for the visit, they were able to miraculously squeeze it in, but the doctor who seemed concerned and asked me to schedule it initially then said it wasnt actually concerning, but did the biopsy anyway. 3: Was told that they would provide me with a referral for a GI specialist following intense bouts of stomach pain. Waited 3 weeks (they said it would take up to 2 to get the referral over and that the GI office would call). After calling back 3 weeks later to find out why I hadnt heard, they "forgot" to call, so put it through at that point. Mind you, these bouts last 5-7hrs and are so severe that at times it feels like Im going into shock. And they knew that. 4: They didnt send my blood work to the GI specialist with the referral. 5: The GI specialist requested the info following our appointment and was pretty dumbfounded they hadnt sent it prior. That was 10 days ago. They still havent sent it. If you like lots and lots of headaches to accompany your care, by all means, these jokers might be right for you. If not, find another practice. Theyre the worst!

Have been seeing Dr Lawan for over 15 years Having him refill my prescription every three months Most of the time his assistant would see me and refill my prescription she is a PA-C About 6 years ago he moved to SCL and so did she And I followed them to the new facility Once again I needed my prescription refilled and the insurance covered everything but the co-pay Things are going well She works as a primary care physicians assistant under Dr lawan Well SCL started trying to send in Insurance claims under her tax ID Of course my insurance denied them as she is not an M.D. Or my primary care Physician She works as a assistant to him I called my insurance company and asked them what was going on and why it was denied They said that they needed to use Dr Lawans ID tax number to pay the difference Called billing at SCL For them to re-submit the bill to my insurance company And they said that they cant do that For 8 year I have never had a problem until SCL got involved it the middle of the billing For my doctors visits And now it is totally screwed up Costing me a fortune in time and money trying to sort out what they have jacked up I will be finding myself a new doctors office

Most practitioners are great. One seemed annoyed that he was the go-to guy to cauterize a nail bed when I had him remove a huge portion of my in-grown toenail... It grew back completely since then, by the way, which he assured me it would not. My biggest complaint, however, is that they do not have any online method of paying bills. This is why I gave them a single star, in hopes that their corporate geezers will wake up and smell the 21st century. SCL Physicians is the ONLY biller we have that requires us to use snailmail which may not sound like a big deal, but... when you only have one biller to mail anything to, it requires that we keep stamps around as well as a checkbook handy. I write checks so seldom, the checkbook I currently have is from THREE STATES AGO! And we DONT move all that often. Its friggin annoying, and the inconvenience encourages me to disregard their bills and take care of more convenient ones... not intentional, just human nature. ALL other bills get paid immediately, but SCL gets to wait 30, 60, 90 days or more for my payments. How much more is that costing them then paying for an online billpay service, I wonder?

Do not go to Dr. Lewan. Ive been a patient of his for over a year and will be switching. Im asthmatic and he only wrote me one prescription for an inhaler with no refills. For another medication he had me coming in every 3 months even after wed determined there were no adverse side-effects. He refused to listen when I voiced concerns about potential stomach ulcers and said to just take Prilosec. My symptoms worsened and eventually I began spitting up stomach acid several times a day. I ended up having to go in to see him 3 times in one week. I requested Carafate and he acted like I was crazy. Since starting the Carafate my symptoms have improved so much. My last visit was in March and when I went to pick up my medicine today (April 28) they said Dr. Lewan had sent a note with my order saying I needed to come in for a visit. It costs me about $100 each time I go in and Im in perfect health. I wouldnt mind paying if I wasnt forced to come in every few months just to get my regular prescriptions called in. It seems he just wants my money.
