Im going to attempt to be as brief as possible. My issue spans from room comfort to staff rudeness so please bear with me as I convey my experience. I went to Memorial West to give birth because after researching hospitals in South FL, it seemed that Memorial West offered the best maternity care. I was told that the maternity rooms were a nice size, big enough to accommodate the mother, father, new baby and visitors. Well, this was the case at first. My labor and delivery room was huge. My delivery was with out incident and I was pleased for the first 12 hours after birth. Then, I was moved to a closet. Almost literally. I am sure there are jail cells that are bigger than the room I was put in. The room could not fit my bed, the newborn crib, and my food tray, let alone my fiance and visitors. It was ridiculously tiny. We had to move the crib and food tray around every time I or he needed to get up to use the bathroom. I could not believe how uncomfortable the room was. I was in total shock that they would put me and a NEW baby in a room that small. Then there are the nurses. My god. Who trains these people on etiquette and courtesy? The hospital needs to fire all of the nurses with the exception of maybe TWO in the whole maternity ward. My visitors were treated as if they were not welcome. A nurse came into my room (before I was placed in that closet of a room) and repeatedly announced that maybe I should send my visitors home. It was very disturbing to say the least. Then I had concerns about the medication they were giving me. For some reason, I had an unbearable headache. I questioned whether it was the medication they had given me and my concerns were just dismissed. After a day of being in a cramped room, having my concerns being dismissed and pretty much ignored, and being unable to sleep due to the nurses consistently in and out of my room, I decided to be discharged early. Well, after 20 minutes of the staff trying to talk me out of it, they finally brought the papers for me and my daughter to be released. I signed myself out an my fiance signed the discharge papers for our daughter to be released. To make a long story short, they changed their minds and refused to discharge my daughter. Well, her father had already signed the discharge papers (which we still have) so they threatened to call DCF if we didnt give them the discharge papers for our daughter so that they could destroy them (the nurses exact words, I could not make this up) They proceed to say that its MANDATORY for the child to stay for 48 hours after being born (a lie) After going around and around with them (it was approximately 2AM) they called security and the police on us. We finally get tired of arguing with them and decide to allow our daughter to stay the few remaining hours (until 12PM which would have been 48 hours) One of the nurses then attempted to coax me into staying saying I could be with the baby if I accepted their treatment plan and remained in the hospital. It was unbelievable, almost as if they were trying to force me to stay by (wrongfully) refusing to release my daughter. Finally, after going home and returning to the hospital, they delay the discharge of my daughter. Well, they called DCF, stating that I was a threat to my daughter because I didnt take blood pressure medicine. It was like I was dreaming. The social worker who came out was visibly disgusted by what they did. She could not believe the complaint they filed and after speaking with us and the hospital staff to ensure that this was the reason for the complaint the worker instructed them to discharge our daughter to us immediately. The whole fiasco was stressful to me. What should have been a joyous occasion was turned into a bad memory. I will never EVER return to ANY Memorial hospital.

This hospital is terrible. The service provided by the hospital is terrible. It is a hit or miss with the nurses on staff and some of the doctors (although we found out that it is mostly miss not a hit). They see you as a number and not as person. The only good thing was a few of the nurses and the imaging services lady who really cares (she alone would get 5 stars but not the rest of the attention from this hospital which is a shame because you see all these awards that must be phony because we just didnt experience the attention required) My mom stayed in the hospital two times. She was diagnosed with a serious medical disease and the level of attention this hospital gave to my moms diagnosis was terrible and I have never seen in any hospital. Some of the nurses and PCP were nice but not enough of them. But the doctors just made their normal rounds and barely provided any information. If the doctors do not take your insurance they show they do not care at all even though while you are in the hospital they should because they are getting paid. Although I flew from out of state to meet with the doctor I was unable to, and not even by phone. Additionally the doctor on call made their rounds when I wasnt there and I could not ask additional questions. When I asked if I could talk to him later they said they could not wait and never met with me. Additionally the discharge papers she received were all wrong said to follow up with doctors whom the hospital already knew did not take her insurance and basically they wipe themselves clean from all problems. The second time my mom was at the hospital, she was informed that she needed to see a cardiologist although the hospital has some on staff to possibly see her and provided her more information. Instead we were discharged and told to see a cardiologist outside of the hospital. We asked many questions and we did not get information to the point that we felt it was better to leave. The hospital facility is nice and clean but dont let that fool you. If I wasnt there I think my mom would have gotten even worse attention/care. It seems you have to push people for questions or why things arent being done in the proper way. I hear memorial regional is a better hospital but unfortunately the attention my mom received was less than adequate. It left me questioning the level of attention from doctors in general. I would avoid this hospital at all cost. If I was a doctor I would change affiliations because I will not look for doctors affiliated with this hospital.

I unfortunately have to agree with S.R. I dont know where they were in the hospital but I was In the emergency room on 7/28 from 12pm- 8pm. I just had a baby on 7/22 and I had severe lower abdominal pain on 7/28. So we get to the hospital and one of the ER attendants helped my mom with getting me out the car. I couldnt stand on my own and walking was out of the question. Inside we waited 30 minutes then once inside the E.R, they check my vitals and send me off to get an ultrasound. Mind you Im still in pain I just needed something to cope with it at this point. So I get sent back and forth from E.R to the ultrasound room 3 times. 1) Which Dr needs these results and why isnt he coming to us instead of them wheeling me back and forth. Is communication that bad or what is it? After the 3rd comeback I finally meet my nurse and she was nice but her attentiveness was off. Once I was in her care she didnt even give me the remote to pg her so if I wanted her I had to scream her name. I still dont have pain meds but I have a IV. They needed to do a cat scan so that means I had to drink that nasty liquid. Before I got the liquid I met with the doctor and you can tell he was just there for the money. He needed to do a vaginal inspection but mind you I have lower abdominal pain. He acted like I didnt need a nurse to remove my underwear but that requires abdominal movement which i stated before I cant really do at the moment. So he checks me and leaves and the only time "I heard back from him" was when another D.R came in 4hrs later and said he left for the day. So Im still waiting for my C. Scan and I asked my nurse for a pad because obviously I need one. She then say oh youre not bleeding and she stuffed gauze down there. Ewww! And why do I have to argue with my needs like COME ON! Its not like I asked for drugs. So I finally get my scan then the new doctor tells me whats going on then states I might have a UTI. He never came back but I got discharged papers and was told Im good to go!.... I now have a UTI and its 7/30. I really think they should do a job cleanse if youre there for the money go somewhere else. I dont need to feel like a statistic in the hospital I need to feel that I will be ok and comfortable.
