I have been going to Good Sam all my life and am now seeking out a new hospital because ever since the birth of my child it has been one bad experience after another. By far the worst part about Good Sam is the ER. In the past year we have had to go there at least 3 times. Once with my 4 week old son for fever and we were there for about 7 hours and eventually left to go to a different hospital. They tried to draw blood from him 5 different times and were unable to get even a drop. They were rude and fake. I called the hospital manager in to complain and he would stand there and nod his head but in the end it did not change anything. The last straw was when they told me the only place left to draw blood was out of his head! We returned a few months later with our 10 month old limping and in pain. We thought maybe he may have broken his leg. The ER at Good Sam said that it would be 3-5 hours before he could be seen! He told me that they were the only ER that does specific procedures so the wait would be long and begged him to get my little crying baby in and he told me to try the urgent care instead, so we left. When I was delivering my baby I had a good/bad experience. When I originally arrived the staff was nice and the room was nice. My contractions were moving along nicely and so I got the epidural. Once I got the epidural then my contractions started slowing down and after about 6 hours they had completely stopped. Almost no one checked in on me and I had no idea what was going on. Finally a new nurse came in from a shift change and she said, "lets have this baby". I was confused because my contractions had stopped? She informed me that the nurse I had on the last shift did not like to deliver babies and she did! So the last nurse had been pumping me with meds to delay delivery so that she did not have to do it!! The new nurse was very kind and actually delivered my baby since coincidentally all the women on my floor delivered the babies at the same time and the doctor had her hands full. How convenient that the last nurse didnt have to deliver any babies. Finally my last complaint, was when I first was pregnant and I went to see an obg at Good Sam. I was only 2 months pregnant and I was pretty freaked out. When I got there I had a million questions about how much activity I could do, if too hot of water would hurt the baby, and what were the possibilities of having a miscarriage? She answered me straight faced and begrudgingly that my questions were ridiculous and that I should use my brain a little more!! She even added that I was having a miscarriage I would know because my boots would fill up with blood!! I just stared at her completely appalled. I still do not think she realized how offensive she was. I did put in a formal complaint and if you look up her reviews now they are horrible! From now on I look reviews on every doctor I use. I do not know about anyone elses experience with Good Sam but this is the last two years of my experiences and I will NOT be going back :(

I will never again go to Good Sam Hospital after a disconcerting experience in the ER. After bringing my mother to an empty emergency waiting room we were told it would be a few minutes before they took her back. After 1.5 hours of sitting in the waiting room while she was in excrutiating pain in her back, I approached the girl at the desk and inquired as to when my mother would be taken back since she was told 1.5 hours ago it would be a few minutes. This woman promptly told me she never said such a thing, however I verified it with my sister who had been standing right there with my mother when they arrived before I did. Since I came later then my mom and sister, they proceeded to tell me that 7-8 other younger people walked in and were taken back immediately to rooms within the ER. We had to call our Dr. and ask to schedule an emergency appt to see my mother since the ER was totally uncooperative. After stating firmly that we would be leaving the hospital all of a sudden they said they were getting ready to open up a second area of the ER and she would be taken back shortly. REALLY??? After two hours of sitting in agony and then what, wait another 2-3 hours to be seen by an ER Dr?? We found out that afternoon at our Dr. office that my mom herniated a disc between L2 and L3 in her back, hence the terrible pain she was in. Yet no one in this ER seemed to really care about the pain an 85 year old woman was experiencing. Was it because she had medicare? Was it because we live in a society where the elderly are not thought of with esteem or even respected anymore? Or was it because the hospital would not be able to receive the money they expected from Medicare so therefore she was pushed to the back of the line over and over. What a sad day in this country when instead of treating everyone as an individual and trying to show concern and compassion to help someone, especially someone who has paid into the system her entire life, is now pushed aside because of dollar signs. I would NEVER recommend this hospital to anyone. My dad served on the Board of Directors for years..E.C. Marquardt, and my brother was on staff for over 25 years. I did not come in that day with my mother to demand or expect any special treatment, just humane compassion and concern for someone who was in horrendous pain. My dad has since passsed away but I know he would have been astounded by the treatment.

Anyone in the western burbs wondering about nearby hospitals, DO NOT ever ever EVER go to Good Samaritan in Downers Grove. WORST experience of my life. Not only are they understaffed and WAY undertrained, their customer service is horrendous. I went from such a wonderful experience at Northwestern Prentice in Chicago when I delivered my son to this nightmare we are STILL dealing with. If youd like even an OUNCE of professionalism PICK. A. DIFFERENT. HOSPITAL. About to write a post on every social media outlet I can think of to save people from dealing with what we had to/are still going through with these people. Just a TINY sampling of what Ive dealt with since my daughter was born- Scheduled induction was set, but when came in sent home because not enough beds. Promised over and over a certain time but then turned away because the nurses couldnt communicate between each other. When I finally was admitted I was stuck FOUR (4) times by a clearly new nurse who had to call in another nurse every 15 minutes because she had NO idea what she was doing. Again communication between shift changes (I was in labor 24 hours) was horrendous. Had to re-tell the new nurse all our information and what was going on EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I could go on and on with similar experiences for the 2 day stay. We couldnt wait to leave. Now Im dealing with the customer service side of the house and cant get ANYONE to call me back (trying to set up a payment plan- trying to PAY them for this horrible experience and still cant get people to call me back!!!!) They had the WRONG address on file AND the wrong phone number for me? How does that even happen? Im so frustrated at this point so I want to make sure I am loud and clear in saying if you are thinking of going to this hospital, pick ANY. OTHER. ONE. You will be SO happy you did
