Horrendous. ER could not provide a path to getting an MRI in early morning hours. Stayed for pain management, which somehow is requires the patient to ask for medication rather than the nurse ensuring that on regular intervals pain medication would be offered. Would have been better off with a morphine self medication machine since the only way to get any medicine was to buzz the nurse station. This went on throughout the day along with my inquiries about when I would be getting the MRI I was told I would get first thing in the morning. Around 3p or so the Doctor Assistant came in to check on me. I questioned her about the MRI and asked what the point was of "pain management" if I was the only one responsible for managing and keeping track of when I should be able to get the next dose of pain medicine. She said that she would check on the MRI and check on the next dose of meds. The Doctors Assistant said that I was still on track for about 5p and brought in meds with the news. The response to the MRI question was that there have been emergencies in the ER that have been pushing the scheduling all day. So I asked why if I came into the ER last night I was not put in the schedule for the MRI earlier since I was the ER patient that needed the MRI the night before. Shortly after the Doctors Assistant left I was finally brought crutches that I was asking for since the ER. Managed to bypass Orthopedics this one time. Finally at roughly 5p after asking once again for pain meds I was told that I was now pushed to between 10-11p and when I heard that I refused my pain meds so that I would be lucid and asked for administration because from the sound of it I was not going to get the MRI and now my window of leaving the hospital and getting one elsewhere was almost closed. Finally after finding out that Patient advocacy only exists within the hours of 8a-5p, chewing on the supervising nurse and then shortly after the "Charge" nurse I was told that I would get my MRI for sure that night. Indeed I did, 24 hrs after entering the hospital in ER, at 11:30 I was brought down to imaging and got my MRI and the MRI tech was not happy that he had to stay. Roughly 2 hrs later I was pulled from the machine, the MRI techs tone changed when I asked about the results and was told that there were severe tears. He told me that they had to have the MRI read and that once it was I would get a consult with Orthopedics (M& M). Early morning the Resident doctor came in, provided me with his name and an apology for all that I had gone through Friday 7/26 and the poor treatment. Late morning Sat 7/27, an Orthopedic surgeon came in to provide me with the results that there were severe tears of the tendons and retraction from the pelvic bone. I asked about surgery, and his response was that he and his partners dont do repairs on the tendons, didnt offer a referral to anyone who did perform them, provided me with 2 weeks of oral pain medicine, gave me his card and told me to follow up with him in a couple weeks. I immediately asked for my release and got the heck out of there. It was roughly a 10 days later that I finally found and met with a surgeon who performed repairs and found out more from him than I was informed by the M&M surgeon. I was told that all 3 major hamstring tendons were torn completely from the pelvic bone and retracted all the way down essentially laying in the back of my leg above the knee. Surgery was performed successfully by him 8/6 at Northwest Community in Arlington Hts., no thanks to the incompetency of the Edwards Hospital ER, nursing, doctor, imaging and surgical teams. NEVER AGAIN WILL I TRUST THEM WITH MY HEALTH! Definitely filing a complaint with Joint Commission and anyone else who will listen!

This is for the pediatrics ER. I have an allergy condition and am prescribed Epi-pens for it, which I take if I cant breath and am in life threatening danger. Ive been to this hospital many times after taking them because its recommended to seek medical attention right after taking them. Twice Ive been put on breathing treatments, the other few times was monitoring me and giving me Benedryl because my throat was swollen. The last time I went, I got the same doctor I just got. She had me in and out very quick, didnt do anything besides check to see if I have a rash. Yesterday when I went in, she was my doctor again. As soon as she realized she saw me a week ago for using the epi-pen, I was treated horribly. She told me that I shouldnt come to this hospital anymore for allergic reactions. She told me that I dont actually have an allergy condition and am just taking the epi-pen to get high. She said I have no signs of residual anaphylaxis, when all she did was check my chest to see if I had a rash. I was wheezing the entire this woman was arguing with me and being completely unprofessional. Finally she left the room and I heard her in the hallway angrily talking to all the nurses about me. She then told them not to come into my room at all and to not give me anything for the wheezing or throat and chest tightness. I asked to file a complaint with someone and it took them a hour and a half to come in. The lady flat out told me I was lying, that a doctor wouldnt say those things. I told her since she was the first person to actually come into my room since the doctor that I needed benedryl or something because Ive been wheezing for the past hour and a half and its getting worse. She said shed talk to the doctor. She came back and said the doctor said shes not giving you anything because she doesnt think anythings wrong. I said no one has been in to check on me for almost two hours. It didnt matter, she handed me the discharge papers and left. I had to rush home because my throat was getting very tight and swallow benedryl. They easily could have given me this while I was there. Ive been tested for my allergies, I have paperwork for it and the hospital knows it. I have many slight and severe sensitivities to mostly food and some other things. This doctor didnt care about that. Overall, I was disrespected, they were unprofessional, and I didnt even receive any care. I will never be going to this hospital again.

Ive had 2 babies at Edward and 2 totally different experiences. In 2008 I had my first daughter and everything was exceptional from the delivery staff to the mother baby staff. They were wonderful, very compassionate, attentive, concerned, quick to get you things, etc. The 2 nights I was there I opted to have my baby stay in the nursery and it was great, they only brought her for me to nurse and then took her back to let me sleep. Overall a great experience. In March 2011 I had my 2nd daughter and was looking forward to another great experience. Boy was I shocked with how their nursing staff has gone downhill. Again the delivery nursing staff and doctors were wonderful. My epidural was awesome and I did not feel anything. Things turned for the worse my 2nd day there. Some of the nurses were rude and not very attentive or supportive. On my 2nd night, they continued to bring my baby into the room telling me she needed to eat again and they can not get her to calm down. When I would get her calm and ring for them to come get her for me to sleep, they acted like I was bothering them. When they finally came, she started to cry again and they acted like well maybe she should stay or we will have to bring her back, which they did 45 minutes later. Needless to say I did not sleep all night and was exhausted! Here I am walking around my room trying to calm down my newborn while I am there to rest and heal from just giving birth! Had this been my first baby I would have been crying my eyes out with their lack of help! I felt that they totally acted different knowing it was my 2nd baby. I came to find out there was only 1 other baby in the nursery so there was no reason they could have not kept her in there! They just did not want to work. I was extremely dissatisfied and would never have another baby at Edward Hospital! Stay away!
