We lost our beloved dog here. We noticed our dog was acting weird, throwing up white liquid and his stomach has gotten hard. We immediately went online trying to google whats wrong with our 10 year old German Shepherd. Everything indicated it was bloating which is a deadly disease and if you dont seek professional help right away the dog could die quickly. Sometimes its a matter of minutes. It said to let the vet know you suspect bloating so they are prepared to take you in right away. We immediately called the ER Animal Care Center of Plainfield. They said to bring the pet over. When we arrived the girl at the front desk slowly opened the door with a smile on her face asking if we came with the dog suspecting of bloating. We said yes. She then greeted us in and asked to come to the front desk. She asked for our ID and started asking so many questions as well as how much its going to cost for them to take us in on an emergency, etc. Then put the dog on the scale and told us to wait in room 3. Weve waited 15 min before the same girl came in to the room again with bunch of papers saying she wants to go over all estimates. We told her we are not doctors and were not going to go over some estimates since were not 100% sure what is wrong with the dog and we want the doctor to look at the dog first. She then left came back and took the dog in the back.About 10 min later the doctor came in.She said they would have to do x-rays but it does not seem like bloating, because usually the stomach is as hard as a rock and Dinos stomach isnt that hard.We felt relieved. She again went over what it would cost and we quickly agreed. She came back in after a while with x-rays and said it was in fact bloating but it doesnt seem the stomach is twisted which usually causes dogs to die. She then started telling us the dog would need surgery mainly because the stomach needs to be attached to the inside wall to prevent the stomach from twisting because there is a chance of bloating again especially with older dogs. She said decompression would have to be done too. She left and brought estimates for $3500-$6500 for the surgery and said they would need to collect the lower part of the estimate up front. We just wanted our doggie back home with us so we quickly agreed. She said there would be a risk with giving an older dog anesthesia and that she would call us right after she starts surgery if she sees something major. They said they will take the dog in right away and it usually takes couple of hours. We paid the $3500 and left home hoping she will not call right away with some bad news. When we got the call 2 and 1/2 hours later we were devastated. She said she performed the surgery, the stomach was definitely twisted (she said she did not think it was twisted after seeing the x-rays) and shes about to finish the surgery but part of the dogs stomach is not getting blood supply, is all black and its not looking good at all. She said there is a small chance but if it was her dog she would stop the surgery now. I told her I was going to discuss it with my girlfriend and call her right back. Weve decided our Dino is a fighter and well take the risk. When I called her back she said there is not even a small chance now in her opinion and if she brings the dog back to life the dog would just suffer and slowly die on its own being in lot a of pain. We both felt sick to our stomach but had no choice at this point and decided not to put our doggie through any more pain. After I gave her our decision I was put on hold waited for minutes for someone else to tell me how much it will cost etc. I was then put on hold again for 5 minutes where another person asked if I agree to a $300 charge for euthanization. We paid for surgery & euhanasia even though dog was already asleep. Horrible experience here. If they didnt waste so much time our dog could have been alive today. Also its unprofessional for the doctor to be giving incorrect diagnosis and giving empty hopes and promises. All they care about is money not the well being of an animal.

If i could give negative reviews i would. Let me just start off by saying that my dog DIED after going here. Im writing this review in hopes that i can save at least one other pet from dying and hopefully save some pet owners the devastation and sorrow Im going through right now. So my dog starting vomiting two days ago. She was vomiting white foam and she probably did so about 10-15 times. So, naturally, we took her to the E.R. Normally, we would go to the Petco in Joliet, but they recommended that we go to Animal Care Center in Plainfield. We were desperate, so yes, we took her there. After two xrays that showed a feces blockage, Dr. Aaron Buck decided to give her Cerenia, docusate, and fluids. ((BTW, they charged $10 for a single tablet of docusate 100mg. This usually runs about $2 for a bottle of #100 at any drug store. Another great example of how this place is ridiculous.)) The Cerenia is used as an antiemetic. Dr. Buck said that there would be no side effects. She seemed fine after this and our dog came home with us. The next day, she was lethargic and weak and she had diarrhea. We tried to call Animal Care Center and they would not let us speak to a vet. The receptionists kept saying the vets are too busy to talk to us and if we were concerned we should bring our dog in or we can leave a message. We left a message at 9am. NO RESPONSE. We left a message at 1pm. NO RESPONSE. We tried calling at 7pm and was told that they had closed but the ER was open and we can bring our dog in.... ... ... I think its absolutely f-ing ridiculous that we were unable to get follow-up counseling. It is quite f-ing obvious that this place does not two s***** about the welfare of your pet and only cares about making $$$ from pet owners that really have no other option. Needless to say, we were very upset with this place and decided to bring her to petco in the morning. Unfortunately, our dog did not make it that long. She passed away shortly after. The next day, they offered to do the necropsy and cremation for free, probably because they know they f***** up. And so they could cover up any type of malpractice. I honestly believe the Cerenia should not have been given. One of the side effects is sudden death. PLEASE PLEASE do not let them give your pet cerenia. Look it up first. If anything, let this be a warning for anyone wanting to bring their pet to the Animal Care Center Plainfield. Im completely devastated and I really dont want anyone else to experience this.

Horrible experience, in fact, had I listened to the people here and not called to get a second opinion my dog would be buried in the back yard... I came in on an emergency visit because my dog was spitting up blood, obviously something serious. I waited for the doctor to come in and she said she thinks she knows what was causing it but wanted for us to do some testing to make sure before we treat, this turned out to be the shortest wait we had, they came in very quick with an estimate of $900-2100 just for testing... I asked the lady why all of the different blood work and xrays and she told me she just didnt want to keep us there all night, I told her that if it saved a big amount of money that I wouldnt mind at all. Long story short, they did blood work, and said it all came back negative. They gave him some antibiotic and a steroid to fight auto-immune disease, which MIGHT have been what it was. We tried going back to my normal vet the next day and they said it was still an emergency and they wouldnt see us and told us we had to go back to plainfield animal hospital. They did blood work to test for tick diseases, I called them back because I missed their call and they told me he had lyme disease. I asked about his medications, they said to keep him on both and DOUBLED his dosage for the prednisone, which was for the auto-immune disease, which later even when I talked to the 2nd vet he said he had no idea why they upped it let alone why he wasnt taken off. When I went in the very first night I had told them I only had about $1000 to my name, walking away the first night they charged me just under $700, and when I talked to the vet again a couple days later she said that she knew we wanted to keep enough money to put him down if we have to, and said she thought it was about that time. I officially felt like I was being taken for everything I had, everything pointed to the fact that all I had was the money to get my dog put to sleep so might as well get that out of me too. Had I done that they probably would have told me to come back on payday so adopt a new one... Love the new vet and will not be going to that emergency vet ever again! I dont care if I have to travel to Indiana!!
