My experience with the vet herself was fine, but overall, I really hated using AAH for two reasons. First, after adopting a dog in July I took him there for an exam so that if I ever had an issue, I could bring him to them and they would have a baseline. That visit went fine. However, three months later when I called concerned because my dog had lost a quarter of his body weight (and they too seem concerned by this), the earliest they could work me in was a week and a half out. I called another vet and got him in the next day. Second, they are unwilling to use online pharmacies, but they do offer to price match (I think), which, while convenient when I lived across the road, was no longer convenient when I moved to the other side of Hamilton County. When my pharmacy contacted them to get an RX, AAH said they had no up-to-date record of my dogs heart worm test (this is for my second dog who has his yearly in the middle of September. They were contacted beginning of August). Since he is not due for another month and they took copies of all my paperwork, they either lost this paperwork or LIED to the pharmacy. Either way, its very unprofessional. I called AAH to figure out what was going on and was going to offer to fax them the paperwork so they could put it back in their file where it should have been and was put on hold for five minutes. I decided rather than try to work with an uncooperative staff who does everything they can to make them your only option, I would take my dog in for a check-up somewhere where they are capable of keeping paperwork in order and willing to work with the patient. Incredibly unhappy with my experience with them.

I couldnt ask for a better vet to take care of us. My cat and I came to this practice after another local practice failed to help a digestive ailment after six months of care. Within weeks of seeing Dr. Short, things went back to what we thought was normal. She was patient, knowledgeable and willing to listen and answer questions. A year later, we ended up diagnosing inflammatory bowel disease. Trying to understand what was going on was a stressful and anxious time, but the vets were more than willing to answer questions and present me with options so that I could be a partner in the decision-making process. Now my 16.5 year old girl is dealing with kidney disease and Dr. Ward takes a proactive, no-nonsense approach in supporting her. Most of the time the receptionists know my voice when I call.

I am so happy to have found this place. Being new to Indianapolis I googled some vets and visited here because it had good reviews. I cant say enough about this place: service, price and quality. There was absolutely no wait to be seen, the facilities were immaculate and clean, the vet (Dr. Short) was super friendly and spent a great deal of time with me going over my dogs issues (just for her annual exam mind you). And on top of everything, this place probably charge me half of what my old vet would have. Friendly staff all around, would highly recommend!!! I really ever take time to write reviews, so I hope this bodes well for the clinic.

Bruce the English Bulldog & his Mommy, Megan: I cant say enough about the great experiences we have had at Allisonville Animal Hospital; ESPECIALLY with Dr. Ward! His bedside manner was top notch & I sincerely appreciated his open & honest communication through the years about Bruce & his needs. I will never forget the way Bruce made Dr. Ward laugh & the way Bruce was received by everyone in the office when he happily trotted in, full of snorts & wiggles :) I know that Bruce is looking down on us from heaven now and would recommend A.A.H. to all pets & their loving parents. Thank You for all you do, Dr. Ward! -Megan Ewing

My husband and I bring our pets to Allisonville to see Dr. Lesh, and the whole staff is always wonderful. Last week, we had to bring in one of our dogs for euthanasia and we were understandably heartbroken. Dr. Lesh was especially kind and compassionate, but everyone, from the receptionist to the techs, was sensitive and caring. They gave us all the time we needed to say our last goodbyes and let us cry and talk and cry some more. It was the most difficult vet visit weve ever had, but Allisonville handled it with grace and were grateful for that.

Dr. Marcie Short & Dr. Jim Ward are the most compassionate & conservative when it comes to cost for services veterinarians, I have had the pleasure of doing business with over many years . I have referred many to this practice over the years. I also know many of their human/animal clients. I am sad I will no longer be needing their wonderful services as the business was purchased by another veterinarian Dr. Greg Borlik 1-1-16. I will never meet this man, but I do not like his business practice.

The staff at Allisonville Animal Hospital is wonderful! The front desk ladies are always so kind. Our dogs are clients of Dr. Ward and Dr. Short. I feel very comfortable with the treatment they receive. Dr. Short is very patient and understanding with our dog who can be a bit of a handful at times. Dr. Ward is personable and very knowledgeable. We cant forget to mention our favorite vet tech, Maureen. She is great! We are so lucky to have found such a caring staff for our dogs!

I job shadowed here, and it is definitely one of the BEST vet clinics in Indianapolis. I am training to be a veterinary technician, and as i learned a lot of experience here, i would personally recommend this hospital to everyone. They were even busy, the vets answered all of my questions, and I even witnessed tons of procedures that were done completely aseptically and professionally. I even travel the long distance just because I know my kitty is in good hands here. :)

We first visited Allisonville in 1970; later, when we met Dr. Ward fresh out of Vet School, we were on board - his straight-forward diagnoses and kind, warm presence has carried all of us thru many difficult decisions and added humor to routine care. Those of us who are dogs (some looking down from dog heaven) have appreciated his honest approach and the cat - well, what can I say? Thanks, Dr. Ward, for some 25+ years of friendly care. While the desk/vet assistant staff seems to be very competent and thorough the vets themselves are horrible. Perhaps their medicine is on par but they are COMPLETELY lacking in bedside manner. I would not recommend taking your pet to people who express a complete lack of compassion. I took my cat there for years and finally had enough and now go elsewhere.

My parents took their pets to Dr. Ward at his old location, and when I got a dog and cat, I knew I would take them to Allisonville Animal Hospital. Dr. Ward is the best! I highly recommend him.
