I found a lump on our 10 year old cat Tom and he needed surgery to remove it. Dr. Heyer was worried and prepared us for what this could potentially could be. She assured us she would do everything she could to help our boy. When I took Tom in for surgery it was nerve-racking thinking about him, but I knew he was in good hands. Later that evening when we picked him up it was what Dr. Heyer expected a soft tissue sarcoma. We were worried and scared, but Dr. Heyer took and aggressive approach to do everything she could to remove the sarcoma. Tom looked pretty beat up and had to wear a cone on his head until the scar healed. Now, we had to play the waiting game and see what the test results said. These were some tough days, but we knew our vet had done everything she could. Finally, Dr. Heyer called with the news - her aggressive approach worked and she was able to get EVERYTHING! Toms test came back curative and he was going to be OK. What a relief! Fast forward and Tom is back to himself, just missing some fur but its coming back quite nicely. We cant thank Dr. Heyer enough for everything she did for Tom. She is a first-class vet who really cares about her patients and will go above and beyond and her aggressive approach saved Toms life! Tom has been seen by all three vets and they are the best. We would not dream of taking him anywhere else. They have all been clear in their communication with us and weve always felt like Tom is in good hands when he is there. The estimate we received for Toms surgery was exactly what I was charged. There was an additional option I agreed to pay if it could used and it was explained up front. You cannot go wrong bring your pet here - they will be treated like royalty!

Ive only been to this vet a couple of times (once for vaccinations and once for an eye infection), but I can see how theyve been able to continue providing long term service to many reviewers. I would like to address the concern regarding the cost of this vet I saw mentioned in a few reviews. 1) You get what you pay for in most cases throughout life and 2) if you were to compare the prices of this vet with other vets in the WDM area, theyre actually quite competitive (not to mention the extremely convenient hours they are available!). Maybe Ive just been lucky, but I feel Ive always been treated fairly and with respect at this clinic (which is saying a lot considering I woke up 10 minutes before the first visit and arrived a half-asleep disheveled mess!). Im just saying, give them a call and see for yourself. My dogs regular vet is in a very small town I grew up in because I love the personalized feel and individualized care. I can honestly say I received the same treatment from these individuals and they havent known me my whole life. So thank you to all of the employees of this vet clinic for taking the time to not only care for my pet, but for taking the time to make me feel confident in your desire to care for my pet.

I highly recommend the Veterinary Medical Group of Des Moines. All three veterinarians on staff - Dr. Johnson, Dr. Bollinger, and Dr. Heyer - as well as the technicians are very professional, caring, and knowledgeable. The doctors are all very skilled with both internal medicine and surgery, and can provide several services regarding both. I appreciate the way they communicate and provide all options, as well as take the time to explain and answer any questions. Its always very clean out front and in the exam rooms. I value that they have extended hours and are open on weekends as well. My Shiba Inu does not appreciate nail trims, and they do such a great job with her to get it done quickly and painlessly! I also use their boarding services and can trust she is receiving great care during her stays. My dog loves all the doctors and staff there and I do too! Thank you for such great care!

This clinic is expensive and not personalized for each client. Also, our customer service experience was horrible on two consecutive occasions - mainly because the front desk acted as the vet expert rather than having the vet call and talk to the client themselves. We had expensive tests done on our pet, then never received a phone call back about the results (almost 2 weeks went by). When we called to talk to the vet about the results, the receptionist became extremely annoyed that we wanted to talk directly to the vet to discuss the test results. We are extremely disappointed because we gave them ALL of our business i.e. prescription food and snacks, medication, medical appointments, etc.

I have been taking my cats to Metro Cat Hospital for almost 20 years. It was fairly close to my first apt and I liked the idea of a "cats only" vet. Even though Ive moved several times within the metro and could have transferred to a closer vet Ive always stuck with them. I have five cats now so were there a lot during any given year - needless to say the doctors and vet techs know me and my cats well. The doctors are very thorough, take time to explain and answer questions and always have the best interest of my cats in mind. I love both Dr. B and Dr. H and I think my cats might even like them a little bit too!

We have been using this vet since we had our first dog together. The staff at this location is always friendly. The care we recieve is always amazing. They probably arent the cheapest in town but you get what you pay for if you wanted the cheapest you probably wouldnt recieve the best care. We recently had to put down one of our dogs. The staff here cried with us and sent us a card signed by everyone telling us how sorry they were for our loss. Its great to have people that make you feel like more then just a number. People that make you feel like your pets matter to them too.

We consider Dr. Bollinger, Dr. Heyer, and Dr. Johnson to be family, because they have helped us through good times and bad with our cats and dog. This practice is great for pets of all ages, but we have been particularly impressed by the care provided to some of our senior pets. Some of our pets have had difficult conditions: cancer, diabetes, thyroid, pancreatitis. The vets are always so compassionate and accessible to us when we have had questions and concerns. I can always rely on their help, and the calm atmosphere at the clinic seems to relax our pets.

I really like the vets there! Ive been taking my dog there for 8 years I think, and I love that they are always honest. He had a heart murmur once, so we went to IVRC to get it checked out. Next time we went to the vet, they said the murmur was gone! They couldve said that he still had the murmur so as to avoid being accused of "mis-hearing" it the first time, but they were honest, and I was happy about that! They always treat Howie very well. Id definitely recommend them.
