Based on my moms experience I would not recommend this place to anyone. Stay away. My 83 year old mom just had hip replacement surgery. When I was at this facility, I observed that there was no sense of urgency from the aids/nurses to assist my mom or other folks residing at this rehab facility when they needed help. My mom would have the light on and it took at least 45 minutes to an hour before anyone would respond back. The staff seemed to be tied up talking and texting instead of doing their job. Supervisors and others at the head station seemed to ignore what was going when alerts were going off for assistance and just chatted with personal discussions or texting. My mom even caught an aid texting and skyping while they were supposed to be assisting her in the bathroom. When my mom asked what he was doing he stated that he was having a Skype session with his daughter. The aid then left her alone in the bathroom and she would have fallen if she didnt grab on to the towel bar. That aid was no longer allowed to come to her room. However, now he harasses her when he walks by her room by motioning his hand as a gun and shooting her and sticking his tongue out at her. She also had to let a nurse know that she had the incorrect medications for her to take. Apparently there is only certain days the residents can get showers. My mom waited over 2.5 hours to get a shower on shower day. The aid was too busy with other things to get my mom a shower. My mom had enough and took herself in the wheel chair from her room which is one side of the facility to the administration offices which was totally on the other side on the facility. You have to understand between this is the nurse/aid station. I asked her if anyone at the station asked her if they could help her and she said no. They didnt say anything. My mom was able to discuss the shower situation with the head of the facility. He was able to arrange to have her get a shower. Does a resident at rehab really need to go to the administrative office to get something done? As I read the other reviews the culture and comments are all the same. Shame on you Heartland Sterling Heights for allowing your employees to treat the folks residing in this facility this way! They are there to get better and are depending on the staff to help them get better. I wish there was something less than a star because this place should be closed.

Make sure you bring money and treats for nurses and aids to bribe them for care. Or else they are not exceptional. Suggestions: candy, pop, pizza, fast food, etc. Be prepared to find your family member under neglect- be prepared to hear lies and excuses from the staff. Some of the other patients are thieves, and will steal out of your room, so watch out. Prepare to lock up your belongings. One time I woke up with my face, smashed face first in a tuna croissant, it was terrible and humiliating. Completely unnecessary. A lady came in my room stole my clothes, while trying them on and also stealing cash for vending machine items. Prepare to get life alert before you come into the rehab, because its like hotel California...once you check in, you can never check out!!!! Ive called the police 10 times begging to get out but couldnt. They CHANGE the rules ALL the time. If I ask to go to the bathroom they say I cant. "You cant walk". Then when I go in my pants they punish me--- meaning blanket over my head in a wheelchair and they wont pay any attention to me no matter what. This is living hell: recommended if you hate your parents.

The facility provided a welcome opportunity for my father to gain strength following many hospital stays. Each member of the staff is a caring, knowledgeable professional. From the smiling admissions office, social worker, across to the kitchen staff, patients know their care is of the utmost importance. Pride in the facility shows as every professional makes an introduction to new patients. Daily therapy from the physical, occupational and speech therapists set my father on the right track. Family members were welcome to participate to their level of comfort. Nursing staff enhanced his stay and sense of well-being. This positive attitude was contagious, extending to self-assurance in the tasks of daily life. My father returned to his home stronger, better able to manage his chronic illness. We are well supported at home with referrals to Heartland Hospice and other services as need arises. This story will not have a "happy ending", but this part of the journey was pleasant and nurturing. Heartland was the resource I had been looking for over five months. Caring for a loved one is easier and safer with the help of Heartland.

My aunt is there for her second time. The first time she was there the staff was excellent on taking care of her. This time, we both feel as though she isnt getting the same treatment as she did before, as she is on the same floor with the same nurses. She has been left in bed for more than 6 hours without a nurse checking on her, has been told she will have a Doppler on her legs done because they keep swelling and weeping, which hasnt been done. She cant take the lasiks because they make her blood pressure drop dramatically and nothing else is being done. She is in there to help get her strength back and start walking again. She cant walk with how badly swollen she is and how much pain she is in. Trying to get answers from them is like pulling teeth, and when I called to speak to the Director of Nursing, we played phone tag for 3 days before I gave up. The food there is just awful so she is barely eating. They keep trying to make her eat a diabetic diet, when she has never been on one before. While she is on meds for diabetes, she doesnt need control with insulin, and her sugar levels are always normal.

We had a great experience at Heartland. My mom went in extremely weak after being in icu and unable to scratch her own nose. We were there everyday, and for every meal ( as she was unable to feed herself). Although the nurse aides would have fed her. So I was witness to the staff at least 12 hours a day. I could not be more impressed with their empathy and patience. Within 2 months she walked out of there. The staff were compassionate, kind, encouraging, and professional. An hour of both physical and occupational therapy a day by wonderful staff made all the difference. We were treated kindly and compassionately. My mom is a nurse so does understand the process. She is back at home on her own thanks to Brittany, Shannon, Brenda, Alisha, Lisa, Corine, Susan, and many more! I cannot say enough kind words about the staff.
