Ive been taking my dog here for the past 6 months, and have given them numerous chances to keep me as a paying customer, but I have had enough. This place is just looking to take your money. I originally brought my dog in for a rash and ear problem, was given a bagful of meds and creams, totaling quite a bit of money. The vet could not give me a solid answer on if the antibiotic ear drops were absolutely necessary, or if we should try Benadryl first. I asked many times for clarification, and she couldnt tell me to buy the $45 drops, or not. The rash cleared up in a week. When it was time for my dogs vaccine updates, they insisted she needed to see the vet regarding her previous ear/skin rash, that had obviously cleared up after the first visit several months ago. They let me just schedule a "tech visit", since everything had cleared up. I had an appointment for the tech visit and was seen 45 minutes later, why have an appointment if there is such a long wait? A few months later, my dog is due for another yearly vaccine, and insists she needs to see the vet for an exam regarding her skin/ears, a clearly unnecessary exam fee. If my dog continued to have a rash/ear problem, wouldnt they have followed up with me a week or so after her initial visit, instead of constantly trying to charge me for an exam for my healthy dog? They also tried to charge me for a fecal test, a few weeks after I had already dropped off and paid for one. Not sure if this was a record keeping error, or if they are just trying to charge people for whatever they can. Ive heard of vet offices taking advantage of people and charging for unnecessary exams, etc., and I think the VCA does this. Id be scared to take my dog here in an emergency situation, knowing it would probably cost an arm and a leg. A friend of mine took her dog here for an eye problem, they insisted it was cancer, before doing a biopsy and scheduled a surgery. She was so upset and fearful for her dog. She got a second opinion from another vet, prescribed a steroid cream, and all is well. The VCA scared my friend into thinking her dog HAD cancer and HAD to have an expensive surgery. I would think twice before taking your pet here.

This place is dangerous! Get a second opinion if they advise you to euthanize your pet! Brought our cat in after all night at Dove Lewis Emergency. Cat had tried to have a bowel movement, then collapsed. Dove Lewis gave Kitty an enema. VCA did bloodwork and told us to Euthanize our cat within 48 hours due to "renal failure". They were wrong. After a second opinion from our regular vet, we are treating our kitty daily with insulin for his misdiagnosed (by VCA) diabetes, and FOUR WEEKS LATER, HE IS DOING GREAT! He is playing, cuddling, adventuring outside, gaining weight, eliminating normally, and generally acting like a happy, energetic older kitty. I was not ready to see my guy go if he could still have a happy life, but VOC made it sound like I would be torturing him and would have to hospitalize him to keep him alive. They also tried to up-sell me unnecessary tests, which wouldnt have helped with his treatment. This place is corporate vet medicine at its worst. Its like, would you like $145 fries with that? Watch out if you HAVE to go here. I will keep my trustworthy cat clinic in Beaverton.

I did some photography work for NPVH and stopped by to give them some samples one morning. I ended up as a "fly on the wall" for much of their staff meeting and cant tell you how IMPRESSED I was. They talked extensively about how important client care is to them. I didnt hear any talk of money or negativity. They were all so positive and solution-oriented I couldnt help but ditch my last vet and switch to NPVH immediately. From my little insider view, I know that they only have the best in mind for my pets care and my overall experience. My last visit to NPVH was the best ever for my dog. She was severely abused by her last owner and has always had awful visits to the vet (including vets who just sedate her). The vet at NPVH took extra time to make sure my girl was comfortable and felt safe. When I was ready to leave and get my dog back in the car, the vet had us stay even longer so she could give my dog treats. That little bit of extra time and care is what made my dogs experience OK for the first time ever. Thanks everyone at NPVH!!!

I am so glad we found VCA North Portland Veterinary Hospital. The care is top notch, the staff is friendly and pet loving, and their prices are reasonable. I dont have to wait on hold forever to book an appointment. They dont make you feel like a bad pet owner if your cat gets into a fight or you cant afford to get their teeth cleaned right now. The doctors present treatment options and work with you to give the best possible care for your pet, given their health and your situation. I dont dread taking my pets there, like I have with other vets. The staff and doctors there understand that our pets our part of our family and treat them with respect and consideration. When I brought in our elderly cat, who was ill and very stressed, the staff brought over a blanket sprayed with Feliway to help reduce her stress while we waited to see a doctor. If you have had a bad experience at another vet, considering trying VCA North Portland Veterinary Hospital. They make pet health care manageable.

Updated review: Ive seen a lot of changes here and havent made a good connection with any of the newer vets. It seems when I find one I like they move on. This might come with the territory of being bought by VCA. I still think they have state of the art equipment and well trained vets but Ive had mixed reactions to the advice, diagnostics, and bedside manner of some of the vets. Ive also learned that if you make an appointment in the afternoon you going to have to wait a long time to be seen as they dont seem to have enough staff to deal with urgent situations and so appointments get pushed back. This has happened to me multiple times and now I know that I just have to get in as early as possible so the vets are harried and rushed and I dont have to wait to be seen way past my appointment time. My review from 4 years ago: Excellent care and a good prices. Some of the best vets and techs I have experienced and Ive seen a lot.

I cant say enough about this veterinary hospital. I have had use their services alot in the last 4weeks due to a injury my dog Jax sustained. All the way from the front office to the back office and of course the vet I go to Dr Mallov, who is the best vet I have ever gone to .The service has been compassionate, caring, and very competent. I cant forget the vet tech Heather who is always there when I take Jax in to see Dr Mallov, she is great. My dog Jax is recovering nicely almost healed. I know that because of everyones concern and respect of my dog and his injury he does not mind going as often as he has. I have seen lots of people come and go from there while I have been there and a couple of times it was sad for those leaving , they were treated with respect and a caring manner, which all of us want for our animals and ourselfs whether it is a sad time or just stopping in to buy food.
