I recently was directed to Retief as a new patient seeking a skin check due to the high number of moles I have on my skin. I scheduled an appointment over the phone for a few days later and arrived on time. Upon arrival, I sat nearly 40 minutes before I was seen by the doctor’s assistant, who asked me a couple brief questions. The doctor then came in and asked what I was there for, to which I replied that I would like a skin check to look over my moles and there was one on my cheek I was particularly nervous about. The doctor responded that there wasn’t time for a full skin check today, but did take a quick look at my cheek and said that it wasn’t anything to be concerned about at this time. She left and her assistant took a picture of my cheek mole and they said I could go. The total time from when I entered the patient exam room to being dismissed was no more than 10 minutes; the time the doctor was actually in the room was closer to 90 seconds. Needless to say I was rather disappointed, as I couldn’t help but feel like the reason I could not have a more thorough exam was due to the delay in actually being seen despite arriving on time for my appointment. Recently I received a bill for $100.00 for the visit. Apparently my insurance company covered about two-thirds of the visit, but $29.75 remained as “charges exceed your contracted/legislated fee agreement,” which then somehow inextricably came to total $35.12. I am attorney and I bill at $250.00 per hour. I get a lot of comments about how high my billing rate is, as do most attorneys. I therefore find it astounding that based on the amount of time I was seen, I was billed at $2000.00 per hour by the doctor. Then add the approximately $167.00 dollars for the 40 minutes I spent waiting and could have been billing clients, despite pre-filling out my new patient questionnaire online. Obviously this is absurd, and quite frankly shameful. Nevertheless and despite my own moral outrage I have paid them as requested for the outstanding $35.13.

I ended up seeing Dr. Howd at my appointment, so keep that in mind with this review. I scheduled my appointment for 8:00am and was seen almost immediately. I have seen some reviews saying they had to wait to get seen...this isnt exactly uncommon for drs offices. I would suggest to schedule an appt. early in the morning if you are in a time crunch. Dr. Howd was very warm and spent a good amount of time talking to me about my skin problem - more than most doctors I see regularly. She seemed very attentive and was very interested in what had worked in the past, etc. She also recommended several different types of treatments, depending on how I wanted to proceed. I was very pleased with my treatment plan. In terms of expense, my insurance covered all but a $15 co-pay, so I cant speak to that too much. I would definitely suggest making sure your insurance will cover it before you go. Im sure it is very pricy without it. Overall, I would definitely recommend Dr. Howd at the very least. I will continue to go back and I feel confident my skin will improve w/ her treatment recommendations.

Every experience I have had with this office has gone from bad to horrible. After several office visits with NO results, one of which I waited over two hours and was yelled at by her receptionist for complaining about the wait. The LAST nightmare experience ... (my own fault for EVER going back to this unprofessional, condescending and uncompassionate doctor) I paid over $600 dollars for a laser treatment on my hands for sun damage). The treatment was not only totally worthless, I never received a call or a follow up about the procedure nor an offer to attempt to make it "right". Today went to a CARING doctor and was informed that they do the same laser procedure for sun damage for $75, with all follow up procedures done at little or no cost if the initial results werent attained. If you want to throw hard earned money down the drain and be treated horribly, this is your place.

My father saw Dr. Retief for some small facial spots and a larger spot on his mid back. The spot on mid back turned out to be basal cell carcinoma. This type of cancer is supposed to be highly treatable and not terribly invasive. HOWEVER, due to inadequate margins on the original removal/treatment of the basal cell on his back AND lack of follow up TREATING the inadequate margins, my father almost died last year when this cancer returned with a vengeance. If Dr. Retief had followed medical protocol and continued the process to remove the basal cell and obtained ADEQUATE clean margins, this probably would not have occurred. MAJOR OVERSIGHT and MAJOR EXPENSE and NEAR DEATH due to GROSS NEGLIGENCE!!!!!!!

I see some pretty bad reviews here on google for this skin center, so felt the need to comment on my own experience. I saw Dr. Gelbard rather than Dr. Retief. Dr. Gelbard resolved one skin issue Id had on my face for years, which had been mis-diagnosed by my previous dermatologists. Since the condition has not been diagnosed correctly previously, for years I had been using the wrong medication for it. Another scalp problem she prescribed a med for that my other dermatologists had not tried, which cleared it up significantly. I cannot speak to Dr. Retief, but Dr. Gelbard at least is absolutely outstanding.

I have been seeing Dr. Retief since I moved to Nashville 18 years ago, and she is an exceptional doctor. Whether Im seeing her for basic skin issues (her Buff RX skin care line is amazing!) to Botox and laser skin treatments, I have always received excellent care, service, and most importantly results. I am constantly complimented on my skin, and I always credit Dr. Retief for it. I have referred every friend I have! If there were 10 stars to award I would give them! And she has been amazing with my teenage kids acne issues too.

Complete waste of time and money. They will tell you anything and everything you think you want to hear but its only to talk you into getting procedures or tests that you dont need at all. After the fact you will be largely billed for their lame excuse for patient care followed up with a monster in their accts department, Kameil Hopkins. She terribly rude, condescending, and a complete piece of trash. STAY AWAY FROM THIS OFFICE!

I never actually saw Dr. Retief. Saw the PA who would not look at any other spots on my body except for the place on my face that was a flat area that I had excised. I asked about a place on my neck and she made me go across the hall to see the aesthetician, who proceeded to poke on my neck with no results. I was charged over $500 and they tried to sell my products. I will never go back - unprofessional is an understatement.

I work in the healthcare industry so I am a bit picky but WOW! From the moment I walked in I was greeted with a friendly smile and was taken back for my appointment within minutes. The doctor and assistant were wonderful, she diagnosed and treated me right there. The check out desk was again very friendly and the cost was minimal. I will be referring all my patients to this great clinic!
