I had an awful time there. I went in after a very nasty fall. I hit my head on concrete and blacked out for a few seconds. I had a big bruise and contusion on my head. I also banged my knee up pretty bad. It was super swollen. I had a nasty bleeding scrape (the blood was soaking through my jeans) and I could barely walk. By the time I got to the medical center I had already been waiting at the emergency clinic next door for two hours, but I had to leave to go breastfeed my daughter. (The clinic had referred me to the ER at Medical Center for a CT) When I got to Medical Center, they made me see another doctor - even though I had been referred for the CT at the clinic by a doctor an hour previous to my arrival. When I came to Medical Center I brought my baby with me so that I wouldnt have to leave. I was at Medical Center from about noon to 7pm. When I first came in they said I needed a CT RIGHT AWAY. Then they made me wait 5 hours for the CT, which makes me cynically think I must not have really needed it that badly in the first place. I had to have my husband bring me lunch and dinner while I waited with my baby in the ER. In addition, I asked both the doctors I saw to check my knee because I was in so much pain. The first doctor (clinic) said not to worry about the knee until we made sure that my head was fine. I thought that was understandable. The second doctor (Medical Center) put his hands on my knee for two seconds and said in a brusque tone, "Your knee is fine." When I left at the end of the day I was in tears walking to my car because it was so painful. I got several medical bills for that day, and I was expecting that. But the professional fee for these doctors was ridiculous. For five minutes of Dr. Brumbaughs time I was billed $1535 ($950 after insurance). This bill was SEPARATE from my bill for Medical Center, which was $5142 ($1049 after insurance), which means I almost paid just as much for this doctors professional opinion as I did for the actual CT, which took much longer than 5 minutes. And so much for his professional opinion! I ended up seeing an orthopedic surgeon a few months after the incident because my knee never got better. It turns out that I had shredded my ACL and torn my meniscus. I ended up needing knee surgery. My knee surgery after insurance only cost me $745 at a surgery center in a different city, and the experience there was pleasant. It really put into perspective how overpriced everything is at Kingwood Medical Center. Because I couldnt pay the $1049 all at once, I was paying a little every month. It was very little, $20 - $100 when I could. (Remember I also had a bill to pay from the clinic, the professional fee for Dr. Brumbaugh, radiologist fees, AND then a bill for knee surgery). Five months after being seen (four months after I received my first bill) I got a rude letter in the mail from a collection agency. It described my "lack of cooperation to resolve [my] account in a responsible manner." It said that the hospital indicated to them that I had not paid my bill "despite previous requests." Then it said, "Remit your payment in full." I had already paid $150 towards my bill -which isnt much, I know - so I was really irked by the fact that the hospital had reported my remaining $800 to a collection agency without contacting me first to let me know that the amounts I was paying werent acceptable. After all, they seemed happy enough to take my money. If you can afford to make the trip and your situation isnt immediately life threatening, driving to a hospital in Houston will probably be worth the savings in medical and emotional costs.

Cons: -When driving down kingwood drive hard to see the emergency room from the side of the hospital, ambulance area looks like the emergency room (no signs pointing to emergency room on front of building). Ambulance area doors will not open up for patients to walk into ER. No signs to ER on side of building pointing people where to go.... -ER doesnt take children during the day/early evenings. Parents running around carrying kids trying to find where in the world to take them which is hidden on the far side of the building. You cant walk through hospital, you must walk a mile back to your car holding your child to drive around building. Once again, no signs on the outside of the hospital! Terrible Terrible Terrible!!! I watched a kid be brought in by his mom with a bone sticking out and the mom had to no help, they told them the ER was for adults during that time period and to find the child care area on the side of the building. That poor mom was almost crying. Why didnt they offer to put the child in a wheelchair and push the child for the mom?? -Told receptionist in ER spouse was having a heart attack and she said they couldnt do anything until info was in their computer. umm ok? That took 10 minutes trying to enter insurance info in their system, glad he lived. -ER doctor told my spouse, who was having a heart attack, that they didnt see anything wrong on EKG except a small line. My spouse refused to leave because of pain, he did have heart surgery that same day. However, the independent heart surgeon was amazing and communicated well with us! -Prisoners get treated at this hospital. Very weird having cops sitting outside rooms while they recover from whatever (this is not a county hospital, very strange) -Received close to $5,000 hospital bill. I asked if I could get a discount because someone without insurance wouldnt pay that much and they refused at NPAS, Inc (their billing provider). I asked if I could maybe talk to the customer service manager and she said "no"! Methodist usually will give an additional 10% to 20% discount when it gets in the 1000s. I should have said we didnt have insurance to pay less. She said Kingwood sometimes runs a special promotion for discounts but no discounts that day. Huh? A sale on medical services randomly? -Parking lot is way too dark at night for safety. -Coldest hospital on earth. Everyone in ER had blankets on them Pros: -Nurses were fine, didnt have any issues with them. -Doctors that work there (except young ER doctors, nice but should be doing anything with life threatening conditions) are really good for major issues -Never had a problem locating my spouse in the hospital. Customer service knew where he was at all times (wish they had the TV screens with the patient number and location like at Methodist. Once you have the patient number can easily locate the person...no names displayed...just the number on TV screens)

I had the worst experience with my 3 year old son. I took him there on August 13th because he wasnt feeling good he hadnt peed in over 12 overs, he hasnt drink or ate since that Friday the 12th. So I took him to Kingwood Pediatrics hoping for the best care, well I received the opposite. First, they did exactly what the doctor did to him on that Friday which was the urine and flu test and everything came back good. which I told them the doctor did that to him on Friday. He was dehydrated, and would not drink for the hospital either and they sent me home and just said try to get him to drink which isnt that easy when they are sick and nothing sounds good to them. He did perk up a little but thats because he had Motrin in his system and I told them that. that is why they put me on the back burner was because he wasnt acting extremely sick but he was. And what really has my irritated is there insurance lady sure didnt mind following us into the room asking for the Co-pay but yet they did nothing to help my baby. So Saturday night he started throwing up and his fever was 101.1 I was alternating Motrin and Tylenol. Sunday morning we got up and he was jerking so bad he was holding on to the side of his bed still not drinking or eating by this time he has gone 24 hours without peeing. so I took him to Patients ER in Mont Belvieu off of 146 they where absolutely AMAZING I will never go any where else. They immediately started him on IVs drew blood and did a x ray thats when we found out that he had PNEUMONIA. Yes, my baby had pneumonia I was furious. He had to have 4 bags of fluids because he was so dehydrated. He is better now but still a little off but he was so sick doctors said it would take some time. I have been trying to get a hold of Gail Deavers with Kingwood to discuss what they did and why they didnt treat him. ( When I did talk to one of the nurses he did say it goes by the way the kid is acting which is BS because I told them he was acting a little better since he had Motrin in his system and they still put him on the back burner and didnt take us seriously.) But of course no phone call back. I have called her 3 times left messages and no return phone call. I had to call Kingwood Pediatrics every single day for a week in a half before they have me Gails phone number to start calling her. I will never recommend them to anybody. Patients ER all the way (the nurses there where amazing and treated my son like he was there own). If I could give 0 stars I would but it makes you give at least 1.
