I am in my hospital bed as at GSMC as Im writing this. This is the worst experience I have ever had in a hospital. Ive been here for about 36 hours. I was crushed between 2 vehicles by my legs and came in to the ER on 10/14/2016. From the get-go I have had to constantly ask for the basic things to be comfortable and Im in A LOT of pain!!! Ive been begging for more pain meds because all they will give me is Tylenol 4 with Codien. I finally got them to give me some more Morphine but it wears off within an hour or so. They were giving me enough to relieve the pain in ER but once I got out of surgery for a broken leg, I have been in constant and excruciating pain and all they say is "Its normal. you had a really bad injury. This is all we can give you." It just doesnt make sense. Any other time Ive been injured or had to go to the hospital at other places, I never had to ask more than once and they would give me as much as I needed to alleviate the pain. It seems like GSMC people think Im a drug addict or something!! I can assure anybody reading this, I am no drug addict. I am writing this at 130am because I have been in so much pain, I cant sleep. I begged and pleaded with my nurse, nearly in tears, and she finally contacted the doctor to give me some muscle relaxers as my body has been slowly getting more and more sore and painful, because of the trauma from the accident. This is workers comp because it happened at work but I have medical insurance through my employer. Its not like I just came in off the street asking for some drugs! The Doctor in charge of my treatment was trying to send me home on Friday night!! I thought surely I need to be in a place where I can get medical attention when needed, for AT LEAST a day or 2. I feel like theyve been trying to get me out of here at every opportunity. This is ridiculous. I will never come back here again. At Regional, they seem to care about your suffering and want to help relieve your pain. I have not felt that way AT ALL since being in the care of Good Shepherd. On a side note, I want to say that the nurses and other staff have been really good. I know they have rules to follow and Big Brother(hospital administration) is watching them. This review is directed to my doctor and the powers that be. Do not come to this hospital if you want to be helped with your pain and not have to beg for some relief!

If you are truly in pain or have a legitimate emergency, go somewhere else. I sat in the ER waiting room for 4 hours with dozens of other people that had nothing more than coughs and sniffles, passing a kidney stone, in excruciating pain. I finally passed it in the bathroom there in the waiting room and went home, despite them telling me I was "next in line" (I had been "next in line" for the last 2 hours). I had already passed several kidney stones and I know what it feels like, I didnt need a diagnosis, all I needed was something for pain and mainly nausea (once I get started throwing up it does not end for a minimum of 8-12 hours and I get dehydrated and worn out) so I could go home and curl into a ball and finish passing my stone in relative peace. Seeing as how it was 8pm, my only option was to go to the ER. Usually its a 12 hour ordeal to pass one, hence why I went in the first place. I got lucky that time and it did not take that long and I could get out of this hell hole. Ever since then, I have never gone back to the ER for a stone, I refuse to have to pass one in a waiting room like that again, it was as bad as having to give birth in the waiting room (I would rather have a baby than a stone any day). I have my OB-GYN prescribe me anti nausea medications and I just deal with the pain. The hell with the ER. Several years ago my dad had his first knee surgery at Good Shepherd and he contracted a staph infection in that knee. Despite repeatedly telling the doctors something was not right, they let the staph eat at his leg for 10 months. It ate away the bone and consequently, my dad has required about 7 surgeries total to try and fix his knee. He is now disabled and bound to a scooter chair. If we had it to do over again, I would have encouraged him to have surgery elsewhere. Unless you absolutely have no choice, choose a different hospital. Preferably one that is not in longview. if you have an emergency, try one of the new ERs or Regional and skip the b.s. at Good Shepherd. I would not have anything major done here, especially since they seem to have a little problem with staph. I try to go to Regional for anything we may have. ER is much cleaner and faster. Good Shepherd would be my last resort even if I was dying.

Imagine a hospital that is sparkling clean, very modern, wonderful food but are willing to let you die !!! This is what almost happen to my mother in this hospital. My mother is 69 with Parkinson and diabetes. Recently she went in thinking she had a sever flu or pneumonia. They diagnosed her with a massive heart attack. She had 100% blockage in 2 main arteries and 80% in the third. After several tests it was determined that she was not a candidate for open heart and as for stints the cardiologist said he might be able to do it but his recommendation was to take her home and call hospice. In other words take her home and let her die! To us this was not an acceptable answer, my mother may have a few medical problems but is in full possession of her all facilities and is still only moderately hampered by her Parkinson physically. After every road block from them and threat from us we finally got her care flighted to another hospital. The new hospital was not quite as sparkling or modern but was far superior medically. My mother has received two stints and is on the road to recovery with some more years ahead of her that she did not receive from this hospital. Furthermore out of the 6 days she was in this hospital only the last two did they give her any kind of medication to remove the fluid that her heart could not pump off. They were letting her drown in her own fluids. Also the first two day we had to fight them to give her the Parkinson medication she requires to keep from shaking. She shook out two IVs and collapsed her veins so bad, the second hospital had to put the new IV in her neck, simply because this hospital would not give her required medication. And for anyone who wonders if it was a matter of insurance (money) it was not... my mother has insurance for her insurance type of coverage.

God awful place to have a baby! I preregistered, but that didnt stop every person I saw from asking me every question again and again. It didnt seem to matter that I was in the middle of giving birth and hadnt seen a doctor!!! Youre suppose to be given a wheel chair and taken upstairs immediately. But for some reason I wasnt. Finally allowed to go upstairs I had to walk why squeezing my legs together. I started the birthing process while the pencil pusher upstairs wanted to know everything again. This time conversationally with my guy like it was tea time. I obviously have a high pain tolerance (lucky me, but maybe not great if you dont and you go here). So I have no idea whats going on. It was my first child. She at one point asked me if I was in pain from one to ten. I wasnt familiar with that, so I asked for clarification. And she said does it feel like you are being run over by a car. Ah, no. DOH! The pencil pusher asks me if I can walk (AGAIN!) across the hall to the birthing room. I said no, but she tried to insist until she lifts the sheet and see blood everywhere. So then they start to get their crap in gear for a delivery. Unfortunately the room isnt set up and my guy has to hold my IV bag. So would I suggest this hospital to others? NO!!! Doh! I guess if you like talking none stop. & receive little consideration when having a child then this would be the place. After all that including submitting a hospital review and asking for follow up not one apology or acknowledgment: oh, I didnt realize when you kept telling me you were giving birth that YOU WERE ACTUALLY GIVING BIRTH!!!
