There is a saying in Judaism that says; "Actions that come FROM the heart - go directly TO the heart.". And so it is with Dr. W. Baxter Perkinson. Dr Perkinsons genuine need to help others and to improve the quality of their lives - is extraordinary and heartfelt. He treats all of his patients - with respect and dignity at all times and his warm, comforting way eases the journey that lies before them. A highly skilled and gifted professional, Dr. Perkinson is one in a million - not only because of his many, many talents as a surgeon and artist - but because he truly has a heart of gold. If one needs to have the work done, money is never an object...Baxter works for love of his art. If someone is in need - he responds. If someone is in pain - he responds - if someone rejoices - he responds - if someone is steeped in despair - Baxter is there. To be so many things to so many people - to recognize the value of his generosity and concern - is a gift from God. To be sure, becoming a patient in his practice immediately renders you a member of a loving and caring family. Dr. Perkinson removed all of my teeth (which were all broken and rotted). He shifted my sinus and bone, inserted some 20 implants and created the permanent teeth that I now have. He did most of it - in ONE DAY. with the help of an extraordinary staff of highly skilled and dedicated assistants. My discomfort was minimal, especially considering the largesse of the procedure and Baxter called me frequently to check on me and make sure that I was OK. I cannot think of another person in whose hands I would have entrusted this job. I knew Baxter could do it - and do it beautifully...and so he did. Baxter generously graced and gifted me with a new mouth, a new smile, restored my health - gums & teeth, obliterated my halitosis and gave me a new and brighter lease on life. I will never be able to find adequate words to thank him for his kindness and his generosity. I actually look forward to going to the dentist, where I rejoice in seeing the phenomenal people who changed my life; Dr. Perkinson, my friend, Dr. Rick Marcus, who made it all happen - as well as Dr. Christine Ressler,(Short Pump) Sharon, Linda, Holly and all the many people who assisted Dr. Perkinson during my epic surgery. My fervent hope is that the old adage of " what goes around really DOES come around" - is true. For in that truth, Baxter will be abundantly blessed and rewarded. Thank you for everything you are, Baxter - and all that you do to make this world a kinder and better place for all of humanity.

Virginia Family Dentistry, formerly known as Dr. Baxter Perkinson & Associates, is, quite literally, a factory for teeth. From the light bulb that goes on while you’re in the chair, allerting the doc several other patients are waiting in other cubes and they speed it up like the Richmond Marathon (Not the OK5K), to the DMV-like pick your booth for check out, and staff that sometimes seems just as happy to be there. They are missing that je ne sais quoi, which may explain the name change to try to give the “family” atmosphere. But, alas, fear not, there is Dr. Mike Catoggio, who brought my experience from zero to hero and I would follow blindly to any practice, much like my GPS navigation device. He is so personable, leaving you feeling cared for and comfortable, and miraculous work, to be eloquent, taking the fear out of dentistry with his gentle, quick hands, pausing from time to time to say, “just beautiful” or “that’s perfect,” which whether directed at my teeth or his artistry and construction (definitely the latter), keeps me feeling assured. And not to forget the amazing Karen, who gave my grin a gleam! Hey, maybe this place has created something great in Richmond after all, as they have grown to an enumerable amount of docs! In any event, with Dr. Mike, I gotta go with 5 Stars! And would give more if I could! Id give the lady who handles insurance the zero, as they are 0 in 5 for accurately quoting insurance and just plain mean, and thats not nice! They even have you sign a form of what they are quoting your benefits as but then when they spring a different amount when you return and check out, they say you should have known and they just quote it and bill it as a courtesy to you. Then after you call, the insurance lady is rude, puts you on hold forever, only to hang up. So while there is no pain in the dental chair, its hard to shake the treatment you receive on the other side of the counter...

Just wanted to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone that I came in contact with, from my initial phone call to checking out and everyone in between!!! I had a bit of an emergency, (I am one of those "petrified of dentist" people) but everyone at Virginia Family Dentistry was extremely pleasant and most helpful. They made the experience considerably less stressful than I have ever gone through in the past. One thing that impressed me most was that there was a TV in the room where, in the past at other offices, I would sit in that chair and panic - my mind going over every horror scene I can imagine involving the tools that would soon be used on me!! The TV was an extremely pleasant distraction for me!!! lol UPDATE: 07/18/17 and still feel exactly the same way I felt from the beginning regarding this great group of people!!! They truly treat like a friend, or family!! Its kinda crazy and NOTHING I have EVER experienced in my entire life!!! I wish more Doctor Offices were . . .. no wait I take that back!!! I am GLAD they are the only ones that make me feel like they honestly know me and want to HELP me, as opposed to just doing their job and getting me out the door. I have NEVER in my life NOT been afraid to go to the dentist!!!! I actually look forward to seeing them all and discussing plans for my care!!! I have had A LOT of issues over the past year 1/2 and they have been right there with solutions and and helping me in any way that they can!!! I recommend them to EVERYONE - they have several Offices, so if you cant visit the one on Huguenot (sorry bout your luck) but I am sure the other offices are just as warm, inviting and caring!! I will not ever go anywhere else. I actually make appointments for my next visit before I even leave the office . . . now I will tell you that is some kind of turnaround for me!!!!!

If you prefer being treated like a person rather than a number to churn and burn, this is the practice for you. According to research Im your typical woman because I prefer to do business with people who not only "know their stuff" but who are pleasant & with whom I have a rapport/connection. Without question, this practice exceeded my expectations & this is coming from someone who has never written an online review for a business much less a product. I originally went to VFD for an Invisalign consult with Dr. Buelow, an orthodontist at the Midlothian branch. From the moment I made my appointment over the phone, I was met with such professional & courteous staff you would have thought I was their most frequent client. Both Lynn and Dr. Buelow spent time answering my questions and laying out all of the options & costs so that I could make an informed decision ... down to the penny. (By the way, the cost was less than at my previous dentists office - by close to $1000 dollars.) Dr. Buelow then followed up by sending me a hand written note thanking me for my visit & stating that he was available to answer any further questions I might have. Cost aside, after that kind of relationship building, how could I possibly go anywhere else? Since it happened to be time for my 6 month teeth cleaning, I made an appointment to see one of VFDs dentists. I was extremely fortunate to be assigned to Shannon and Dr. Ghazarian (Dr. G). Again I was met with professional & courteous staff who were not only thorough with their work but interesting people to talk to. I thoroughly enjoyed both of my experiences thus far at the VFD Midlothian practice and feel extremely confident in referring others to seek dental care here as well.
