Over the last 2 years Ive taken my daughter to Valley Oak Pediatrics. The first doctor my daughter saw for an ear infection & throat virus was Dr. Goldman. He was very rude and lacked bedside manners. He seemed annoyed about my concern for my daughters wellness and when I asked about her possibly having allergies (since her eyes were constantly tearing and she complained of stinging) he told me that she was too young to experience allergies and to just give her benadryl. She can deal with being tired during the day at daycare! When I mentioned a medication that my daughters teacher recommended, he hesitently gave me a sample of it. But before bringing it in to me he kept the door open and I guess he forgot because I saw him roll his eyes pointing into our room and then walked in with the sample. ... I figured I was being too sensitive and let it be. Since then, Ive dealt with nothing but rude staff, and rude doctors.. so quick to judge a situation. Which brings me to today. My child has being getting strep throat and throat viruses for the last 9 months. Every 2.5 or 3 weeks she gets sick with fever, chills and loses her appetite and at times would vomit anything she attempted to eat or drink. The doctors including Dr. Bailey himself, said its nothing to worry about. Shes in daycare and school and around kids all day every day and shes going to get sick. Ok, fine... I let them be right for the next 6 months, but would take her to the doc every once in a while just to make sure that was still their consensus. TODAY, being her fourth day with fever and chills I take her in. Dr. Bailey asks whats the problem, I dont get to say four words before he starts in on how my daughter hasnt been sick with the same thing since November. She goes to school and this is what happens when kids are in that type of environment. I must of angered him by questioning what he said, saying; "Since November though?" He got upset and gave a sarcastic knod saying, "Yeeah". I disagreed. He immediately said Ive seen 4 mothers today just like you concerned with their kids, want to make sure their being a good mother to make sure there kid is ok. But I can tell by your face your not buying it. Would you buy it if someone you thought you could trust let you say four words and told you how you were sps to feel and what your thinking?? Rude. Plain rude. Then he said fine and stuck a swab q-tip in my daughters throat without warning saying well check her for strep. Im not an ENT, I dont take out tonsils what do you want me to do? How about giving your patient and parent some medical advise?? His nurse came in with a referall to an ENT and asked when I wanted to come back to get my daughters immunization. I told the nurse very nicely that Im more then likely not coming back. She saw that I was upset and volunteered Dr. Baileys wife to come and talk to me about the situation since in her words was more thourough and understanding. I said fine. In two minutes Dr. Bailey was back and closed the door and said in a very sarcastic voice, "Did I make you cry?" "Ok, I will listen.. go ahead." I spoke another four words before he gave me his opinion AGAIN since its obviously the only one that matters in his world. At this point, I told him I think its best that I find another physician. His last words to me and my daughter..."GOOD". Needless to say, I went to the front desk and requested my daughters records because she will never step foot in this office again. To make an already long story short... I made an appt with another doctor and another ENT today and guess what? My daughter has tonsilitis and is has surgery scheduled to take her tonsils out next week. I would not recommend Valley Oak Pediatrics to ANYONE! The doctors and staff our rude.

MY three sons are patients at VOPA and for the most part we have recieved good care and treatment upon visits. My 4 month old sees Carla Gorum and we could not be any happier, we love her! Unfortunatly I answered a very upsetting call this morning from a woman in the billing department. Long story short, they had billed for my son under the worng name, so the insurance was not paying and I was told I had to pay the over $900 bill before I could come in the following day for my sons check up. Mistakes happen, I am very aware and understanding of that fact, however, it was the way she presented herself and verbally attacked me that is not acceptable. She spoke to me as though I was a dirt bag, which I am not. But even if I were, it still would not be okay for her to speak to a patient/client in such a manner. Furthermore, I deeply understand that she is doing her job, and most likely it is unpleasant, but again this does not excuse the way she behaved. I have a VERY stressful job. I make a choice everyday to treat everyone with respect and kindness regradless the circumstance. Also, this only happened on one occassion with this particular woman, so I imagine the other billers are kind and respecful. I requested to speak with a supervisor about this situation, as of yet I have not received a call. If no contacts me it will just further confirm my feelings of disrespect and apathy amongst staff/ administration. Too bad because the doctors are great! UPDATE 10-30-2009 spoke with office manager Jean and although she was very respectful, bottomline, they are encouraged to do/say whatever needed short of cussing or threats in order to collect money. Jean seemed unconcerned by the way the billing collector LUCIA behaved and no action will be taken. It was almost as if she will be celebrated for her behavior as according to instructions she was doing a good job. FYI if you are in this position you will find no support or help from office manager. TIME TO LOOK FOR A NEW PRACTICE.

I went to Valley Oak during the 8 months I lived in the area as it was recommended by a few friends. I had mostly good experiences. Dr. Limone, Dr. Gorum, and Dr. Pham were excellent in my opinion. Nice, professional, caring... etc. Dr. Bolton was horrible!!! She came to see me for my release after the birth of my daughter. She was suposed to be there in the early morning and didnt get there until late afternoon, so my husband and two small children had to wait in the car all day because one was sick and couldnt enter the building. When she finally arrived she was rude (in a nice "sounding way" in sensative, and basically told me my daughter obviously had some sort of syndrom (which has since been strongly ruled out. She has her fathers features and he is mexican. Dr. Bolton didnt ask and mustve assumed he was white or something.) By the time I left I was so upset and frustrated when it should have been a wonderful moment. The PA = Costello left much to be desired at a sick visit. The rule here is: get one of the very good doctors and set appointments way before and call very early for sick appointments to get someone you like. Birthing hospital rotations are up for grabs.. So thats not great.
