I took my cat here on a recommendation from my holistic vet for a tooth extraction. Dr Glaser was very nice and worked out a good dental plan for a general anesthetic ultra sound teeth cleaning and extraction if found to be needed. Unfortunately he was taken away for a preliminary blood test and over the next few days stopped eating and drinking and seemed to have a sore throat. He was also very lethargic. I took him to my own vet and noticed his neck seemed swollen but my vet could see nothing down his mouth or throat and he had a urine sample for infection which was negative. He cried out when she looked down his throat. Eventually 2 shaved patches appeared on his neck when the swelling went down and I called Newbury Park to ask about them. I found out they had taken the blood from his neck and shaved him there. They did not tell me this and I did not know. His neck was swollen and bruised as far as I know and he could not eat or drink. I wrote a letter about this and they called and said someone should have told me but also that the technician who took his blood said it was standard but a little difficult with the vein in his neck. I think that said it all as his neck was obviously swollen and probably bruised from the experience and he could not eat or drink . He got dehydrated too and he had to have a drip. He is not a cat who complains and in all the 8 years I have had him he has never lost his appetite .His neck was so swollen the bald patches were not visible until the swelling subsided when they dropped down and became very visible. No wonder he was so miserable and lethargic . Not a good experience.

Im sorry the other reviewer had such as sad experience, and I hope he/she was able to get answers about why the dog died. I can say though, having been to another vet in the area (Midtown) whos sole concern was to extract every possible penny out of me every time I walked through their door - and to make me feel bad about questioning what they were ordering while they were at it, Newbury Park Vet Clinic is a dream come true. Weve worked with 2 out of 3 vets there both of whom were compassionate, knowledgeable, and very willing to work with us on our care and treatment expectations, rather than running all sorts of unnecessary tests or acting defensive when we asked why something was necessary - including answering very detailed questions from my MD spouse. We truly love our animals and want whats best for them -- in cases where thats meant full force treatment they were more than willing to do so. In cases where thats meant supportive, non-invasive care to keep an older, ill cat comfortable we got no guilt trips, just compassion and respect. And, at prices far more reasonable than Midtown, btw. The office staff is also quite good - friendly, respectful, accommodating, and they are willing to take the initiative to get you what you need - again, unlike the other clinic, where the only thing they could ever do was say "Ill ask the doctor" - who would then call me back, impatient as if I was wasting his time, make me feel bad and charge me more money. I highly recommend Newbury Park VC.

I read one of the reviews below and its so silly to expect that if a dog dies to blame the vet like one of the reviewers has done and to expect not to have to pay if the dog dies. Dogs dont live forever and lots of things can happen when they get old, including heart attacks, strokes and other things. Dogs dying at home? Do you want your dog to die in pain while you look on helplessly? Is that humane? I dont think so. Its not the vets fault if heart disease, old age or cancer overtake your precious pet. If you were working for a company that went bankrupt, wouldnt you expect your last paycheck? Of course you would, even though its not your fault the company went under. Stuff happens. Deal with it. At any rate, Ive always had good experiences at this vet. They are caring, loving and Ive been very happy with them for maybe 30 years now. Some of the vets have retired over the years, but the 2 new ones are very professional and knowledgeable. Dr. Hyman is my favorite of the current staff. He was doing a routine fatty tumor removal from my middle-aged Rottie and if it werent for his sharp eyes the melanoma in my boys mouth wouldnt have been discovered until it was too late to treat. It was thanks to him, he found it, removed it, I was able to treat further with chemo and radiation and I had another 3 wonderful years with my beautiful boy. That is more precious to me than diamonds! To those of you who treasure your animals, these guys are terrific!

My family and I have been going to this vet for many many years now (25+ years for my parents and 7 years for myself) and weve always been really happy with this facility, especially the staff. They treat our kitties with lots of love and care, and I would have trouble trusting them with anyone else (I actually have several vet clinics much closer to my home, but I would rather drive a little farther to take them to the NP Vet Clinic). When more than just a standard checkup is needed, their treatment recommendations are consistently fair and make sense. I have never felt like they were padding their recommendations with unnecessary treatments; much to the contrary, Ive had times were I thought something was needed but the doctor would indicate otherwise and provide evidence to support that opinion. This has only made me trust them even more when theyve recommended a particular course of action. Also, like most cats, my kitties are less than fond of going to the vet and their personalities are definitely at their worst when theyre there. The vet techs and doctors alike are totally patient and friendly with them (even when theyre behaving like complete monsters!) This is an outstanding veterinary clinic, with a wonderful and caring staff that clearly loves animals and whose care is their first priority. I cant imagine taking my pets anywhere else.

I came here under the recommendation of Camarosa Veterinary Clinic because it was advised that my dog get surgery and it was an emergency...surgery went fine they said and I was to go pick her up the following day because they wanted to keep fluids in her because she lost some blood... I called this morning 03/07/08 and to make a long story short, she died. I am very heartbroken because though in pain while at home, she was alive and her tail was wagging...now Im dumbfounded because they do not know why she died... Im sure they are good people, they seemed nice and all, that will not alleviate the pain I feel from throwing all of my dogs possessions in the trash to remove her memory so I stop crying, but I felt I needed to do this, because even after it is all said and done, they still expect full payment... Like I said, I do not want to discredit their facilities in any way, they are a respectable practice. Nonetheless...I am heart-broken...really...shes been with me since I was 12 years old...im 23 now and she was problem free since this time. I do not think I want to have another dog. I prefer she died at home and not in a cage. I miss my dog.
