Took my 5 yr old female guinea pig because she was not eating and drinking for less than 24 hrs.. My appt was at 10am and didnt leave until noon. I left my pig at vet bc after given a medication, she seemed to have lost all ability to sit and looked as if she was fainting right after med was administered. She was rushed to ventilator and kept there till 6pm when they could not do anything for her. When I first got there at 10am, after all the paperwork and talking, the doctor did an xray on her with results as gas in her body. Also showed some arthritis in legs and back. Vet said lungs and heart sounded good. Vet and staff took longer than normal to get results and get meds prepared. My guinea pig was in a critical condition and they still took over an hour to get results and meds prepared. Finally, after the expected bill was presented to me the first time, my pig was prescribed 2 antibiotics, critical care food and some other drug that in my opinion only weakened my pig and she never recovered. I went home and vet would update every hour on her condition. One one occasion after I mentioned to the vet that the med that was first administered made her worse, lethargic, her breathing was very labored and looked like she went into shock. It made my pig very reluctant to be held and fought to be released after that med was administered. The vet mentioned that the med makes the animals nerve to contract and become lightheaded while reducing the heart rate! She said she gave her a shot of Atrovin and that should help to perk her up. Well it didnt vet messed up big time I was like WTH, you knew that and you still gave her the med without giving Atrovin first. I was so upset! I brought my pig in alert, moving and walking took her home 8 hrs later almost dead. She died 5 mins after I got home. Im very upset that it took so long to get to the point of my appt and start treatment of feeding her. Too much bs paperwork and vet malpracticed when she prescribed the medication that made her lethargic. I had a feeling all the meds she prescribed were not necessary esp in the condition my pig was in. They caused way too much stress on my pig. Im upset and sad bc I dont believe they knew what they were doing. I will never go to that hospital again. I guess she thought offering a free of charge euthanasia would make me feel better. Well it didnt, it was just her way to make her diagnosis and treatment not look as bad. I refused from them to touch my beloved pet again! Very upset and sad customer.

We recently came to them for a second opinion from a previous vet who treated my german shepherd for mites before diagnosing his skin problem (the old vet claimed he was too young for allergies). Here at milwood is was an amazing experience, before we even went into the diagnosis I saw an estimated invoice of what it would cost to proceed. Then the vet explained the steps she would take to solve my dogs problem. They went through step by step, not ruling out any possibility no matter how rare it seemed. Ultimately the results came back and my dog, in fact, NEVER had mites and does have severe allergies. He now can sleep at night without waking up to itch and no longer crying because his skin was so raw. (I can also sleep as well) He is also growing fur back in the bald patches and his rashes have gone away. He is a happy pup and so am I!! On top of the great service we also got a follow up phone call to see how he was healing. I have so much appreciation for the kindness/attention to detail/support at milwood vet!

The vets here are amazing! They are extremely knowledgeable and are always willing to go the extra mile for my pets. I was having horrible behavior issues with one of my cats (extreme howling all night long) to where I was afraid I might have to rehome him. But Dr. Updyke gave me so many different ideas to try (even posting things on pinterest!) that now he NEVER wakes me up at night anymore and I am thrilled! Dr. Wapple went above and beyond when I brought in a cat who stopped eating. And while he ended up passing away (it was the best thing for him) she helped me decide how/when to treat and when to stop without making me feel guilty in the least. She helped me feel at peace with the decision and I will be forever grateful for that. Dr. Smitley has helped me through emergencies (swallowed string!) and through treating irritable bowel in my older cat. She has also been wonderful with my animals (as have all the vets and staff at Milwood). I couldnt be happier to have my pet-kids as patients here.

1. Veterinarian did not introduce himself at first visit. Was very rude to us during entire exam. 2. Receptionists were openly shopping online at the desks. They were also very rude during checkout. 3. Got a call the next day asking how our dog was doing after getting his vaccinations...he didnt get any vaccinations. 4. After several months of requesting getting multiple months of heartworm, they finally give me a 6 month supply, get home to find out it was the wrong size. Needed pill for 45 lb dog, they gave me pills for max 25 lb dog. Seemed too busy to actually care about the individual client and focused on getting patients in and out as quickly as possible without giving proper attention to the animal or owner.

I have taken each of my pets to Milwood Animal Clinic from time I moved into Kalamazoo. I was referred to them by a neighbor and will never go to another clinic. The entire staff is friendly, honest, and knowledgeable. I trust them with not only my dogs and cat, but also my chinchilla and cockatoo. I have never had a bad experience with Milwood and I refer them to my friends and family all the time. Their facility is beautiful and creates a comfortable environment. I have had the pleasure of working with both Dr. Updyke and Dr. Smitely. They are both very honest and genuinely love and care about each one of my pets. If you are looking for a affordable clinic this one is an obvious winner!

I brought my sick guinea pig to Milwood Animal Clinic, and the staff was so friendly and welcoming. My guinea pig had never allowed me to hold her in her 4 years of life, but the staff obviously has a lot of experience and handled her in the most gentle and professional way possible, even with all of her squealing and squirming. I never once felt like she was inferior to other pets because she was a guinea pig and not a cat or dog. I am calling tomorrow to schedule my 2 brand new kittens first vet appointments at Milwood :) I wouldnt go anywhere else.

If it werent for the dedicated and caring staff here, my cat would be dead. I brought him in after fishy advice from another vet in Kalamazoo and it literally saved his life. Even in the beginning, when we werent sure what the problem was, Milwood didnt hesitate to send me to the MSU clinic to do tests they werent able to do on-site. Their dedication to my pets health and the months and months of care they gave him and advice they gave me was above and beyond anything Ive experienced at any other vet. Id recommend this vet to literally everyone.
