Parkway Animal Hospital is a JOKE!! My dog was taken there a week ago to be evaluated for luxating patellas. The vet that saw my dog was very nice at this meeting and seemed to really CARE about animals. My dog is only 10 months old and has the luxating patellas on both of her hind legs. I told the Vet that I had limited funds to pay for the surgery. NO PROBLEM was her PROFESSIONAL OPINION. The surgery could be done on both legs at the same time. Great as I was quoted $1500 a side everywhere else. I was going to be able to help my dog and everything was going to be okay...Till this morning when I showed up to check her in for the surgery and the receptionist told me "We can only do one side at a time" So this would end up a two part visit which I could not afford and they knew it. I was very upset. The vet came out and told me "I am sorry but I can only do one side at a time" Dont you think a PROFESSIONAL VET would have known this on the first visit. I feared for my dog and freaked out. I told everyone in the waiting room if they loved their pets they would leave. How can a vet that is supposed to know what the heck they are doing change their mind in a week and not even so much as give me a call prior to me showing up and getting hit with it by the receptionist??? Is this the people I want to trust my pets life with?? You get what you pay for. The red flag should have came up when I was told that the surgery for both legs would only be a fraction of what all the other legit vets in the area are charging and believe me...I have called them all looking for help for my poor little dog. They gave us our chart and told us we are not welcome there anymore and that they feel sorry for my dog.....ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! I saved my dogs life by taking her out of there. I dont care if I have to place her with the Papillon Rescue to get her the help she needs to live a normal life...I would never take her to this hack shop called a VET HOSPITAL...BEWARE...BEWARE...It may seem like a good idea at the time but when it is too good to be true....it is usually TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. They cant possibly be doing the proper blood tests and monitoring of animals before during and after surgery for this price......I guess for spay and neutering it is okay but not for real medical problems...these people are quacks!!!! So long Parkway....I am glad you have banned me from your facility...It has probably saved my dogs life!!!!!!! P.S. I was quoted $600 for the surgery for both sides....How can they do this so cheaply when all others charge $3,000 for the same...cutting corners and not doing the proper blood test and monitoring before and after surgery...that is how!!!!

HORRIBLE! We took our pet bunny Joey to Parkway Animal Hospital a month ago to be neutered. I specifically asked if they had experience treating rabbits at their facility, I was informed that they did. Parkway preformed the surgery, thought the surgical site did not look "right" to me from the time I picked him up! Having no experience with the procedure I believed that the staff at Parkway knew what they where doing, and thought it was normal. During the recovery period I noticed that the surgical site opened up and something coming out. I contacted Parkway and took Joey in right away. I was told it was a reaction to the sutures, but only on the one side!!! They wanted to put him on antibiotics. This is the day I realize the vet and staff at this office had no real experience dealing with rabbits. It took them all day to find out what and where to get antibiotic for the rabbit. I thought with the antibiotics Joey would return to his usual playful self. Two weeks after surgery poor Joey was so sick and now I took him to Breeze Animal Hospital who had assured me that they had very good experience with treating rabbits. Joey was treated there with fluids, painkiller and critical care food as he was not eating in the hopes that he would improve. He made small improvements and came home only to relapse in a couple of days. I return him to Breeze and they treated him again. This week after 2 weeks of treatment Joey relapsed again at this point the veterinarian felt that she needed to perform surgery to see if Joey had an abscess. When she opened him up she found the infection was all over his abdominal cavity, and was unable to remove it all. Nothing could be done to help Joey at this time, and my sons dear buddy Joey ❤️ had to be put to sleep to end his suffering! Our pet lost his life due to negligence and greed on the part of Parkway Animal Hospital. It they had been honest from the start and told me the truth regarding their experience treating rabbits I never wouldve taken him there!!!!!

I have taken my rats there with no problems...and my parents have taken their dogs and cat to Parkway for 20 years. Yes, it smells...like dog, but it is a vet. If it smelled like Barbeque then there would be a big problem! I will NEVER go there again, though. They do not know anything about rabbits. They told me he was underweight...without knowing his age or breed. When I asked Karen to check his teeth because he wont let me get to them she checked his front teeth and said they were fine. Did she not know they have other teeth...molars? They did not give my rabbit pain-meds or an anti-inflammatory after his netuering. I had to demand Metacam and who knows if this is really what they gave me...the swelling did not go down. They only handed me a generic post-op sheet used for dogs and cats which said to clean iwth peroxide. Peroxide should not be used on any animal...it kills the good cells and will prolong the healing process. Rabbits are not anything like dogs and cats..they stress very easily so they should be given pain meds. They also used typical stitches when they should have used surgical glue or at least inverted the stitches. They cut his ball sacs when they shaved him...the cuts look worse than the stitches. In fact, the quarter sized 3/4 inch thick scab came off and he bled like crazy and his sacs have filled up with fluids. NEVER take your rabbit here...I would question taking any exotic animal here. It is worth the drive to Dothan to our new vet who said they had not seen a rabbit neutering done like that before. He had a huge hematoma in one of his sacs that had to be drained, he had to receive an antibiotic and the stitches were removed. The surgeon called me HIMSELF. Where as at Parkway, you have to talk to the surgeon through his minions...hes like the Wizard of Oz. Most of the staff at Parkway are RUDE. Karen has a nice personality, Mike has a great phone presence and there is a black lady receptionist there that is SUPER nice...the others are horrible.

After reading some of the other reviews, Im not taking it so personal now. Ive used Parkway Animal Hospital for more than 10 years and have been happy enough to refer numerous friends and family there. Recently, my dog of 9 years died. I had taken her in a few days prior to her death and the Vet was very kind in the way that he handled things and basically told me to take her home where we would both be more comfortable. I paid my bill and also bought Advantix, Heartguard and 2 boxes of Revolution, (six month supplies of all), I bought the Advantix and Heartguard in hopes of my dog getting better. A week or so later I get a copy of my bill in the mail with another Heartguard charge handwritten on it, stating I only paid for 1 box and therefore owe $35.00. I double checked my bag, although I knew that I only had 1 box, before calling. Apparently I needed to talk to Miss Cheryl, who was always out to lunch or off when I called. They wanted me to come in and bring my receipt, I told them that they had a copy, theyd already sent me another copy and I live an hours drive away. Finally, after numerous calls, I was told that the charge would be taken off my account. Well, today I took a new dog in to the vaccination clinic and after waiting 1.5 hrs, was called to the front of the line and,in front of all of the other pet owners, told that my dog could not be seen until I paid my balance of $35.00. I was treated very rudely by both the receptionists working today. Everyone was looking at me, so I stated "be careful, just because you have a receipt stating you paid doesnt mean that you did!" Then one of the girls said, "dont stand in our lobby bashing our business." The other girl said, "you probably wont be allowed back in here anyway." I was in tears, still quite upset about it. I took my dog and left. I just cannot believe it even happened, I feel kind of sick over it. I guess Im looking for a new Vet now. July 14, 2012.
