I write this celebrating the life of my 12 1/2 year old golden retriever “Beebop” who left us 9/26/15 but honoring the Basking Ridge Animal Hospital whose professionalism, dedication and commitment over the years helped to make this loss so much easier. When I came to Basking Ridge Animal Hospital over ten years ago I was extremely angry and disillusioned. I had just lost a healthy six year old golden who bled to death during a “routine” procedure in another “trusted” vet’s office. After much research and discussions with an out of state vet I realized that I had to bear some responsibility for my dog’s demise because I had not been as informed as I needed to be in choosing appropriate veterinarian care for my dog. The two glaring mistakes I made were relying on a friend’s recommendation of a vet who was “so nice” and not being the advocate for my dog, which means educating yourself on current research and knowing what it is you want for your pet realizing that there will be many, many decisions that will need to be made in his/her life time. I learned that the first and foremost criteria I had in process of selecting another vet was the practice had to have an American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accreditation. It is an extremely rigorous process to achieve this recognition but assures you that your pet has access to the best that the area has to offer. These facilities are not just offices; they are essentially hospitals which for me was a huge distinction. Narrowing down the vets in the area who had this accreditation at that time I was left with only four veterinary groups to choose from. I visited three of the four of them before I selected Basking Ridge. I knew that services at these facilities would possibly cost more given the all-encompassing services they provided so cost did not factor into my decision. Dr. Hollo, the owner of the practice listened to my concerns and was not intimidated when I asked questions and told him that I would be researching and involved in every decision in my pet’s behalf. I felt then and feel even more now that the practice believes in working as a team to determine what is in the best interests of the animals they service. It has been important to me that the practice offers service 24/7. When the invariable crisis occurs I just call their number and know that I will soon be talking with someone who knows my dog or who at the very least has access to their records. When emergency surgery is necessary, anxiety is decreased when you are dealing with a person and a space that you know. Having the best care does not mean that the results will always be what you want. Pets, as do all living things eventually die. This is the second time I have dealt with a dog’s death since I have been with Basking Ridge Animal Hospital. Each time it was handled with sensitivity, compassion, and respect. Beebop was diagnosed with cancer on a holiday weekend by Dr. Redin, one of the veterinarians on staff, three and a half years before he eventually died. Many decisions had to be made. Our initial thought was to put him down because we could not bear to see him suffer. But with advice and encouragement from Dr. Redin we opted for surgery. We chose not to do chemotherapy. Although I wanted him to live forever the last three years and a half years and the quality of those years, I attribute to the staff and doctors at Basking Ridge. When the time came, it was a weekend and Dr.Radin was again on call. She made the call to Dr.Hollo who came in on a Saturday night to do the procedure. I can ask for no more than what we were given. As long as I am able I will have dogs and as long as I have dogs I will be with Basking Ridge Animal Hospital. The doctors, technicians and staff have earned my utmost appreciation, admiration and respect.

I can not say enough about the wonderful and caring doctors and staff at Basking Ridge Animal Hospital. They have been treating Gigi for a few years now and she has gotten nothing less then awesome care. Most recently, we brought Gigi in on Thanksgiving morning at met with Dr. Redin and not knowing what exactly was going on immediately took x-rays and determined that there was some blockage in her intestines. She called countless places trying to find a ultrasound tech , who would be willing to work on a holiday, to get a better idea of what it was but to no avail. We would have had to wait until Friday, but Dr. Redin knew in her heart that time was not on our side. She also called Dr. Hollo to alert him of the possibility of her needing surgery. Dr. Hollo agreed to come in (on a holiday) to do the surgery and removed a tumor, the size of a lemon that had ruptured, along with 12 inches of her intestines. Every time we either spoke on the phone or were there visiting Gigi, they took the time to answer all of our questions and always made us feel like we were the only ones there. Its been a rough two days for her (and us) but she is home with us now and sleeping comfortably. To say that I highly recommend them is an understatement! I am forever thankful for Dr. Redin, Dr. Hollo and the staff for saving our fur baby. ❤️

My fiancée found a cat at a worksite and brought it home to rescue it. I called Basking Ridge Animal Hospital and within an hour they were able to see us, and it was later in the day. I used to see a different vet in Bedminster and was a bit turned off by the office staff as well as they were not open when we got the new kitten so I thought why not give Basking Ridge Animal Hospital a try. I am SO happy that I came here. The office staff is extremely nice and helpful. The vet we saw was AMAZING. She took the time to answer our questions seeing as the kitten was testing positive for FIV. About a week later, I noticed the cat was having some issues, I called and the woman in the office got a vet on the phone for me and I am able to bring in samples to be tested without having to make an appointment and pay for the vet to see the cat to tell me he needs a test. I am really happy with the care my kitten received and will be using this vet for my one year old cat in the future. I did not find them to be any more expensive than the other vet I was using, however I feel my fur babies are receiving the best care.

I talked to several neighbors and they all told me that Basking Ridge Animal Hospital is the most expensive in the area and that they over-treat. Exactly my experience. We are new to the area, and our dog has had a leaking problem for years. She is our 4th dog of this breed and they have all had this, especially at her age. We give her a low dose of Proin and that takes care of it,but in order to give us a refill they first did two urine tests at $68 each, then wanted to do a $160 X-ray, then suggested she might need a $$$$ surgery, and then she might need to go on a special diet which, of course, they sell. A bit over the top if you ask me! I switched vets and even after she looked at the urine test results done previously she was fine with simply refilling the Proin. By the way they also wanted to charge me to copy my dogs records - $5.00 for the first sheet and $0.50 for each sheet thereafter. No vet has ever charged me to copy records!
