I was transferred here from St. E for gallstones. The ER doctor at St. E had called 11 different surgeons and they all refused to operate on someone 24 wks pregnant. They all insisted on waiting until I had my baby, but he found 1 doctor at University to possibly do the surgery of removing my gallbladder at 30 wks. (I was 24 wks). The fact that 11 different surgeons said it wasnt safe at the time (some said possibly 30 wks) shows that it wasnt safe to have it removed at 24 wks, period. I was transferred to University and admitted to get a plan worked out. 2 very nice surgeons visited me right when I got there, and the woman surgeon explained thoroughly why it wasnt safe to operate now for the baby, and that the goal was to push it until after I had the baby. If the excruciating pain continued and I just couldnt take it, or if the gallbladder leaked infection then I would need it removed at the minimum of 30 wks. With antibiotics and pain management, we could "calm my gallbladder down" until the baby was old enough to survive if he had to be delivered during the surgery or even after hes born- and I made my mind up then that I would wait. They wanted to keep me overnight for monitoring and to get antibiotics in me. Just a side note- I was in pain when I went to the hospital hadnt ate or drank anything in around 36 hours at this point and wasnt given the okay but was told that the surgical team would see me at 7am just to confirm what the 1st surgeon told me (to wait for the surgery) then I could be released. After waiting, a man surgeon and Im guessing students came in and told me he thought it would be a good idea to have the surgery based on some scan that Id need to get. I was very confused but agreed to have the scan. After waiting several hours, the scan never happened. Several different surgeons and doctors visited me throughout this time to tell me the same thing: how unsafe it was to do the surgery now. 3 doctors from the OB team had visited me and really pushed it that it wasnt safe, so imagine how set on waiting to have the surgery I was. I was frightened at the thought of even having it at this point. I was told Id be able to leave soon which it was 11am, so I was packing my stuff and getting ready to be discharged when the man surgeon and another man surgeon came in ready to take me to surgery then! I got very upset and confused. They clearly had not communicated with the other surgeons and doctors. I said absolutely not and they sort of laughed and continued to tell me that I needed the surgery. I absolutely refused. I told them I wanted to be released then, that there was no sense in me staying. Only a big medical bill. They told me I would need to stay another day and start out on a liquid diet. I laughed at them and said absolutely not, I will leave today. They finally said if I ate 2 meals and had no pain then I could leave around 6-7. It was 11am at the time. I FINALLY got food after 48 hours of me begging for food because Im pregnant and I was getting to the shakey, dizzy point from being so hungry and thirsty. The nurses were extremely nice throughout my stay, which helped calm me down. The nurses and doctors/surgeons truly need to switch positions because the nurses care a lot more than the doctors did. I always thought University was supposed to be one of the best hospitals around and you were totally in good hands there. Ive changed my mind definitely. The surgeon I saw just wanted to practice on me with the students, no matter what safety precautions I wanted to take. I most likely wont be returning to get it removed at 30 wks or after the baby is born for that matter.

My brother was just flown by life line to this hospital after an ATV accident in which he was not drinking and he was wearing his helmet. We drove 2 hours from Indiana, to meet him there as we were told he had a possible head injury and definite compound clavicle fractures. By the time we arrived he had x rays and were told that he had a head scan. The x rays, yes..the head scan..no. So they deemed him safe to leave. They did not wheel him out of the ER. He could barely walk and gave him NO pain medicine. He was seen by 2 doctors (Shaw and Loftus). As we drove 3 hours on our way home, we stopped at 3 pharmacies and were told at the second one that his narcotic prescription was not valid because it was a photocopy. After I called and spoke with one of the ER doctors, he says "I am not trying to be difficult, but that is not valid in IN". Well if he knew this ..then WHY did he not write a script correctly!! They could not electronically send it either because they are not set up that way. Why the hell not in this day in age. When we walked into the ER and had 6 police officers and a metal detector tell us we were ok to enter, I knew then something was going to go haywire. Well, luckily he is ok as far as we can tell, but the service sucked and I would not take a dying flea in there. Was it because he is deaf or because his insurance has lapsed..doesnt matter. He is not a drug seeker or on medicaid. He is a very hard worker, who was trying to have some fun and a freak accident happened. Thankfully he is alive! At least I trust the ortho sugeon that we will be seeing in IN. I will be calling them Monday morning. Not waiting for a week like the doctor recommended.

My daughters blood pressure kept dipping low and she felt faint she arrived at the er at 5:00 p.m. She was still sitting there at midnight told them she felt like she was going to faint 3 times. I called the er cause she called me saying she was feeling bad and scared. An operator connected me to the er where they preceded to tell me if i was that concerned i should come pick her up in the waiting room and take her to another hospital. Her name was Ashley. So that place sucks i wouldnt send a fly there. I will be calling and placing a complaint. My family has this problem and my grandmother has a pacemaker cause of this problem which she told them. Im going to the news im calling the mayors office because my daughter felt so bad she went to good sam. They made her sit there over 7 hours and never seen her she went up 3 seperate times telling them she was scared she was going to faint. My daughter doesnt do any drugs or drink. Explain this to me. You messed with the wrong mom ashley i will make sure you are fired and something is done about the service. My child is important to me even if she isnt to u. We are tax paying citizens and this is intolerable. Disgusting awful and scummy explains uc the staff the nurses and the drs.
