This place is courteous at admission and once the patient signs themself in they do everything they can to keep them there as long as they can to squeeze every single penny out of the patient and their insurance. The day after admission their financial representative called me and told me my insurance wouldnt cover any of the cost until my deductible was met, which is fair, but then they demanded i pay the entire deductible before they even knew how long the treatment was going to be. That wasnt the worst of it. The person who admitted themselves was a smoker. The staff used her smoking as a way to control her and punish her. She accidently slept through a meeting because of all of the meds they gave her and they kept her from smoking as punishment. Then the next day she got full before she finished her meal and guess what they did. You guessed it. Kept her from smoking. The inpatient handbook outlines the rules, rights and responsibilities of the patients. One of the rights a patient who has checked themselves in has is that they can leave on their own accord at anytime. The handbook states that once a patient has made it known that they wish to be discharged a staff person "must write it down for the patient. The Doctor then has 4 hours to discharge the patient. The only way a doctor can decide not to discharge the patient is if they 1. Feel the patient will harm themselves. 2. Feel the patient will harm someone else. 3. Feels the patients condition will continue to deteriorate. None of these things applied to the person who had admitted themselves. The staff didnt write down that the patient wished to be discharged. I went up to thehospital to ask them why the patient had not been released and they told me the patient had not notified the staff that she wished to be discharged. This was a straight lie and an attempt to decieve both me and the patient. The patient then wrote down herself that she wished to be discharged. I told the patient to date it, time it, sign it, have the staff person sign it. The patient was told the doctor would be in later that afternoon to sign her discharge orders and she woud be discharged. That afternoon the doctor did not come in and she was told the doctor would be in the following day. The doctor did not come in the following day either and the 4 hour discharge window was pushed another 24 hours. The patient is still in this dreadful place right now. It has been at least 48 hours since the initial 4 hour window and Im seriously thinking about seeking legal counsel. I am beyond disappointed with this "mental hospital". The staff are power hungry and the administration is money hungry. This "hospital" is just making money off of the disparity and troubles of its patients. I would not recommend this place to a homeless person. DO NOT GET ADMITTED!!!

Kingwood Pines was the worst decision our family has made. My husband is bipolar and went through a manic episode after our baby was born. He went to jail and upon getting out we talked him into going to Kingwood Pines (which was highly recommended to us by other professionals!!!). He has been there 2 weeks now and he is no better. They have not put him on any sort of medication or any kind of rehab for substance abuse. We have called several times to speak with a doctor or case manager and cant even get any one to call back. They recommended him as an outpatient so now he is able to go home at the end of the day and continue all the things he was doing before (drinking, disturbing the peace, drinking and driving, harassing neighbors, etc.). Any normal person can see that he is not himself (hasnt showered in days, long fingernails, etc.). WTF are these doctors doing? They have given him complete control of his treatment-only two people are on his list to talk to doctors, but we have to have his case number to talk to them and HE wont give it to us. Every psychology book I have ever read says that family involvement with therapy is crucial-we have not had any group therapy. Finally after me calling and leaving a message crying did i get someone to call me back. Because of HEPA laws they are not allowed to tell us if he is even showing up to classes or that he is a patient. I shut them up real quick and said I did not care and that I knew he was there and they were going to listen to what I had to say. I explained to them that they have misdiagnosed him and that bipolar people are very manipulative and can charm there way to where you think they are alright. Shouldnt they now this being doctors? I told them EVERYTHING and finally they have scheduled us for a group visit with his ok. What kind of place lets the patient run the show-especially someone with mental issues??? These doctors only care about money, they do not care about their patients. part 2 from the parets: My husband and I were desperate to get our son help so when we talked him into going to the Pines we were relieved as allot of families know Bipolar People do not know they need medication but they recommended day treatment instead of checking him in so we are in even more trouble than before took 10 days to even start him on meds and they gave him prescription to take from home and he is not taking so we have called many times begging for help and only time they will call is when they need credit card number,Please do not waste your only chance for help going there .My son has a new born baby that because he got sick after she arrived will never get to know his daughter as he is losing everything in his life

Its bad enough that we cant get ANY help for our childs mental helth in this state but the one place that is supposed to help our child fails him ever time. They rant and rave about the dr is so smart and so good yet my son keeps having to return and he refuses to even consider another diagnosis. Obviously its not what he thinks because the treatments dont work. Im tired of banging my head against the wall because nobody cares enough to truly try hard enough to help our son. Not only does bringing him here NOT do anything for him (other than gives us time at home to regroup ourselves after an incident) but everytime we are lied to. Never EVER get to speak with a Dr after putting in request after request. The staff is rude and lazy! My sons things are always missing when we pick him up. They have even brought him out in torn up paper scrubs had been wearing for days with no shoes, twice! We would remind him every night to put his clothes out to be washed and he says he did and they didnt take them. Right in front of the nurse and she didnt even deny it. They say its the childs responsibility to bathe and put their clothes out to be washed. These are children, mentally unstable and in my sons case not at age level.. but even when he puts his clothes out they dont wash them. They give him paper scubs and instead of thinking hey his clothes are all dirty, lets wash them they make him wear those for two days. Thats pure a neglect. Hatefulness and neglect! How do you lose a childs shoes and clothes in a matter of days?? They called us to come pick up our son because he is discharged and ready to go at 1pm. We live an hour away and arrived around 2:30 after signing in and telling them who we were there for that made us wait 2 hours for the 2 other childrens parents that were being discharged because God forbit thay have to walk 20 feet to the front more than once. During phone calls with my child all I hear is children being berated in the background. I understand their job must be difficult dealing with children who have such dificulties but if you cant do it with compassion youre in the wrong profession. Im tired of my son being treated badly because he is sick. Its out of his control! And after 5 stays at this place we have them figured out... They are nothing but hateful EXPENSIVE glorified babysitters. All they want is to milk your insurance and discharge whether the patient is stable or not. No treatment plan, no resources nothing. Kingwood pines needs to seriously reevaluate their staff and make better choices. SOMEBODY has to take a stand and be the voice of reason and hope for these children.
