Ive been here a few times and for the most part I can say my experiences have been good when there for a friend or family member. I cant say the same for when Ive gone. The doctors Ive gotten are not as thorough as the other ones Ive encountered. Ive had some not so great docs. For example, I went in to the ER after a recent UTI / kidney infection. The doctor(PA) that I saw seemed to just have an attitude so did the nurses. Both of them had a very negative vibe that made me feel so uncomfortable I really didnt even want to be there.I told the doctor I was feeling very anxious and I was in a lot of pain. His staff did nothing. They gave no medications for either the discomfort or anxiety. I also told him I was very nauseous. They did give me medicine for nausea after my IV had infiltrated . It took the nurses 6 tries to give me an IV which I understand sometimes peple are hard to stick , But come on! I told the nurse it really hurt and she just insisted it was fine. I have chronic migraines and I also have chronic kidney infections and kidney stones. Ive had literally hundreds of ivs because of this, not to mention Im a nurse myself. I know what a bad line looks and feels like so I dont know why the nurse attempted to insult my intelligence the way she did. I should mention I had been there recently, two weeks before, and, i had a very bad UTI / kidney infection most hospitals would have admitted me for how bad my readings were but this doctor did very little apart from urine test and checking vitals. He didnt even draw blood he just made me feel like I wasnt being listened to. That coupled with the doctor yesterday ended up prescribing me medications I cant take, ensure I am reporting my experience. I received one antibiotic and naproxen sodium, which he said would help with pain (anone with kidney issues knows this isnt close to appropriate to perscribe) problem being Im very allergic to naproxen sodium which is in my chart I also cant take the antibiotic due to it not working very well for me and having a potential side-effect (last time I took it i broke out and ended up in urgent care with asthma attack) . I informed the nurse and when he went to tell the doctor, I heard the doctor say "no we are not giving her anything else, I gave her the only antibiotic Im writing for, shes allergic to too many things". So basically he was saying I have no other choice but to take this antibiotic and this medicine that Im allergic to. Im not going to be taking either. Im not saying this Hospital the worst Hospital in McKinney but Ive had one too many negative experiences so I wont be returning. I think this hospital has the potential to be really great because ive witnessed really great nurses and really great doctors there. Unfortunately none of them were there when Ive visited.

My mother had a total knee replacement here. I was on leave from work so I could stay with her during the day and overnight the night of surgery and the next night. Other sibs and one of her granddaughters stayed when I left. At any rate, her surgeon was awesome, attentive and totally engaged. The nurses (not Grace) and other staff were great. So much so that I completed and turned in a glowing comment card mentioning the staff and her surgeon, Dr. Ozumba, when she was almost 2d post-op. Purposefully, I did NOT mention the other two internists/gp. One was named Saguiri. I think he came by once. The other dic came by ?3x and, combined, they probably visited for less than 7minutes - definitely less than 10minutes when I was there. They were the exact opposite of those I mentioned in the comment card - disengaged, aloof and visiting to "check the box". I didnt say anything bc it was turning out to be a rather ?uneventful recovery. My mother was fully participating in therapy having sat in a chair and walking (assisted) about 20feet the morning after surgery. The physical therapist was great. She walked ~60ft during her 2nd session on that day. During her first session the next day she walked ~160ft. She was going to be discharged with home health therapy! No rehab center. We were all so excited. Then.... About 3:30am one of the nurses (I hadnt met him but an soooo thankful he was there) noticed her heart beat was off. Turns out she was not receiving her meds as prescribed following the surgery although they were listed AND - for extra security - we brought them to the hospital. Im told this one was some blood pressure medicine that was indicated for her heart. Furthermore, although she received a blood thinner, there were no coag stats. Day 3 post op my sister noticed she wasnt looking well and was talking keep somewhat "funny". When asked how she felt she indicated she wasnt in pain. My sister - not the doc/nurse - asked how she FELT. My mother said tired. Im told one of the other "docs", not the surgeon, came in and said she looked dehydrated and left. Turns out she needed blood which the SURGEON ordered. The aloofness of the other "docs" resulted in completely avoidable but potentially deadly oversights. "Grace" was clueless. Fortunately, she will be discharged today. This will be a hospital of last resort for us. In the event we need him again, Dr. O has hospital privileges at other facilities. If we can help it, we will NOT return to MCM.

I can commiserate with the poor post partum conditions. My nurses were fine. But the NICU was awful. My son was put in isolation after I developed a fever during labor, so he was born with a fever. I was put on IV antibiotics for 48 hrs. My son was taken to the NICU to be "checked out". Ok. There, he reportedly developed a rash "unlike theyve ever seen", which I NEVER saw, by the way, because it was completely gone by the time we got to see him hours later. We were wondering where he was. Everytime we called, the NICU nurses said that someone was coming to talk to us. They finally told us to come down and talk 6-7 HOURS later. The neonatologist prescribed 48 hrs of IV antibiotics for my son bc of the fever and mysterious vanishing rash. Ok. They put him in an isolation room, which was a closet in the back of the NICU. I couldnt even bring him to the window to show family. They wouldnt LET me even try to breastfeed him and put him on IV fluids. We had to gown & glove to come in. The last straw was when we unwrapped him while visiting and discovered that the vein had blown and his leg was swollen up double. We demanded to see the doctor, demanded the IVs be removed, and demanded that I be allowed to breastfeed him. The doctor argued, but finally relented IF I agreed to supplement with formula. They wanted to keep a NEWBORN in isolation for 2 WEEKS while some tests came back. Think about a newborn in isolation. A NICU nurse scoffed at me when I said I wanted to come breastfeed him around the clock if I was discharged. Everyday his nurse told me his labs were GOOD, fever gone, vanished rash. We told them he was coming home with us, period, when I was discharged four days later. And, though they argued, he did. I know how much insurance was likely paying for an isolation NICU bed. A pretty penny. Thank goodness we got out of there. This was a few years ago. I will never return here. There has been some heavy marketing lately, and I hope this correlates with truly positive changes.
