My Mother suffered two TIA at Northeast Baptist Hospital.Whatever they did after I got her there seemed to bring her back from the horrific symptomatic confusion and difficulty speaking. Although she speaks and acts like she is better, her blood pressure has never been so dangerously high for this long. For two weeks now, it has remained above 170 up to 250 and astonished at the absence of their staffs concern in following up as I repeatedly requested for hourly blood pressure and twice daily blood sugar test. She is not on a special diet for high blood pressure or diabetes. I have begged for the medical records to be sent over from her PCP Salcher at WellMed. My mother has been under his specific care as she requests to see only him for more than 20 years. Then I was told this is something the doctor from Heartland must do...if need for concern he can request her medical records. Apparently Heartland thinks medical records from emergency care at NEBaptist is good enough and ignores my desperate pleas for them to have the doctor monitor her blood pressure and request records from Salcher and review her history and note she is allergic to multiple meds and always has reactions to new medical therapy and prescribed medications. Hospital changed her meds but failed to monitor post stroke effects of meds before she was discharged to Heartland for Rehab. Heartland has no interest in making any real medical assessments or diagnosing the immediate and alarming condition my mother is currently in under the care of a staff that does not have any interest in patients individually and does minimal to acknowledge symptoms of concern. WHY WONT YOUR HEARTLAND DOCTOR COMMUNICATE AND REVIEW AND REEVALUATE AS NEEDED ESPECIALLY WHEN FAMILY REQUESTED THROUGH NURSES AND SOCIAL WORKER AND HAS HAD TO BRING OUR OWN BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR AND STAY AT HER SIDE IN CASE OF EMERGENCY LIKE TODAY WHEN IT REACHED 250 BUT THEY CONSIDERED TRANSFER BACK TO EMERGEMCY ROOM BUT LET IT CONTINUE.I AM GOING TO TAKE THE ADVICE OF MOMS CARDIOLOGIST AND GO GET HER AND TAKE HER MYSELF. THE CARDIOLOGIST CALLED FOR THE DOCTOR ON CALL AND SAID IT RANG FOREVER BEFORE ANSWERED AND THE CALL WAS SENT TO NURSES STATION THAT NEVER PICKED UP. HE TOLD ME MY MOTHER IS IN DANGER AND NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF AND HEARTLAND IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUNT THE IMMINENT DANGER SHE NEEDS EMERGENCY HELP. YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY CONSIDER THIS A WAKE UP CALL. I MAY OVERACT NOW BUT IF MOM SLIPS THRU THE CRACKS AND I LOSE HER BECAUSE I WAS IGNORED.....IT WONT JUST DISAPPEAR WITH A FOLLOW UP CALL CONCERNING PROCEDURE...THIS IS MY MOTHER. TREAT ALL YOUR PATIENTS AS IF IT WAS YOUR OWN PARENT.DO SOMETHING. PLEASE.

Our family member has been at the rehab and recovery section of this facility for about 2 weeks now. Over all the staff is friendly and responsible and seem to take an active interest in recovery. The physical therapy/occupational therapy seams good from what I can tell. The time it takes to respond to a call button varies. Most of the time its just a few minuets, but it can take longer if they are really busy. The facility is clean and maintained well. Over all its good. I have no idea how different the extended care is or if they have any problems. The biggest complaint that I hear is the food is not very good. The food is hot and prepared well and cleanly but its just not very good. I understand the food is a little better if you are able to go to the dinning room instead of getting it served in bed. I suspect this is logistical and also is an incentive for people to get out of bed and move around (if they can). There is also not a lot of space to go outside and enjoy the weather if its nice out. The back porch is ok, but they allow smoking. Otherwise you can hang out in the front which is fine but there is a lot of foot traffic back and forth and not a lot of space. There are some doors that are a little difficult to mange if your in a wheel chair or in a walker. There are rails along all the walls however the doors can be tricky. The staff is very busy but if you ask them for help they will help you. Over all the place is 4 stars because the most important core factors is the care and the staff do a good job. Missing one star because there could be more space to enjoy the outside, getting sun can make people feel really good and improving mood is important to heath and recovery. Also missing one star if it was more "luxury" in terms of furniture and chair quality. The furniture is good but if your spending a lot of time here it would be nice for the Chairs for guest to be a little more comfortable. (Like a recliner) These are extras and are really not important; Im sure you can find at an other place but are much more expensive. Update: it turns out some of the staff that run the dinning can be short with the patients. It sounds like it might be an isolated incident but I though I would mention it.

If you love your family member please dont send them here, especially if hospice care is on board or is a possibility while they are a resident. They have made the passing of my grandmother needlessly and sadistically torturous for my grandmother as well as for my entire family. Aside from them trying to second guess and override our own hospice nurses because of corporate nonsense, their staff is uneducated, lazy and inexperienced. They cant even take vital signs properly let alone make adequate nursing judgment or even document sufficiently. Peter and Joy (administrators) do not care about the well being of the resident. They do not care about the family unit. They do not care that their staff is lacking in how to give clinically competent patient care. They along with the nurse managers repeatedly overstep their bounds and interfere with hospice care with the business coming first and the residents needs and comfort coming absolutely last. This facility has been reported to the state by residents before and it is only then that the resident begins to receive better care. Just like only when my family consistently complains and threatens to pull my grandmother out (which is drastic considering her condition-but the environment is unbearable), and when we let them know that I myself am an RN, my mother as well has 30+ years experience in heath care to include quality management, as well as other members of the family have health care history so we KNOW this is not okay, are we given better service. Note: SERVICE, not care. I wouldnt recommend this facility to anyone and there is a special place in hell for some of the people who work here. Updated to add we have moved her out of this facility and filed a complaint with the state.

i came there from the hospital by ambulance around 6pm. there was no one at the nurses station, the guys had to go around the desk to see what room i was to go to. as we were going into the room a young cna ask to help us. the nurse was in the hallway given meds. i was on oxygen so they brought in a machine that was as loud as a tractor. you could not hear the TV or hear to talk on a phone. i had to use the bedside commode but there was no pot under it. i had my call light on for 30 minutes and ended up peeing on myself as well as the floor since i was sitting on the edge of the bed. that machine was getting on my nerves so bad since it was so loud. my machine at home is not that loud. then i started having a panic attack and called my daughter to come get me. i got where i could not breathe, i put my call light on and my daughter called the nurses station. a white female nurse came in and said since i was talking i was breathing. i have COPD and asked for a breathing treatment which she did but told me to quit calling my relatives and to turn my light on which was already on. they had no meds for me so my other daughter send my grandson to come get me. i left around 6am that morning. the white nurse was very rude and told me i could not leave, i told her watch me. i am a retired LVN. up on dressing i ask for a wheelchair to leave and that same nurse said they had none. my grandson said that was okay mine was in his car. so he went to get it and no one bothered to see me leave. my youngest daughter has medical power attorney only if i am unable to make my own choices. they keep calling her and getting her upset too which was bull crap. you folks need more staff on evenings and nights.
