To me, this clinic is not only expensive, but they almost seem to be on a quest to find extra things to charge for. I am not from the San Marcos area and only needed a place to board my 2 dogs for 3 days when visiting relatives over the Christmas holiday. Because it was over the holidays, I had to pre-pay what they calculated as the total cost of the boarding nearly two months in advance. Despite receiving extensive medical records from my vet, I was told they still called the vet office multiple times sometimes asking what they considered to be bizarre questions. Even with everything in order, they nevertheless insisted on some tests and vaccinations that my vet said were unnecessary. Because it was too late to find any other place to board them, I had to have these tests run and vaccinations administered, even though it meant the cost of boarding the dogs was now going to double. They seemed disappointed when I decided to have the tests and vaccinations done by my local vet and not by them. When I came to the clinic to take my dogs home, I was told that in addition to what they previously calculated as the total cost of boarding, I would have to pay for some kind of flea treatment they required be administered to every dog they board (which they said was as much for their protection as mine). It was never mentioned in any of the extensive prior discussions nor when I dropped the dogs off. If it was a fee required for every dog being boarded, it should have been included in the quote and fee I had already paid. It came as a complete surprise. Should I ever need to have my dogs boarded in the area again, I will look elsewhere.

If I could give no stars I would give no stars. I called in to get heart worm meds for my dogs, and was told that they would need to be brought in since they were off HeartGuard for 6 months according to their records. This was absolutely not the case. When I took all 4 of my dogs in at quite the expense they gave me some puppy packs, and samples. Obviously this wasnt notated in the file, and now in order for them to sell me heartworm preventative for my dogs they say they need to be tested. WHY? Because they dont keep good records, and claim my dogs have been off their HeartGuard. When I argued this point with TRACY over the phone she HUNG UP on me. Way to hold my dogs health hostage to make a buck. Dont take your pets here! EDIT: After posting this review I was contacted by Dr. Phillip. We had a long conversation regarding the circumstances that led to posting this review. I want to be clear that I never had an issue with the Vets in this office, and I feel that they do have our pets best interests in mind. I was assured during our conversation that the issue within his front office had been addressed permanently, and that the staff had been coached on putting the health of our pets first. This call does go a long way in showing that the man responsible for our pets health does care. If he got his front office taken care of as stated I would consider bringing my pets back.

Four Paws has been my vet since they opened. My pets have lived long and healthy lives due to the care of this veterinary office and Dr. Deb Forester. My 13 year old shepherd mix came to us as a two-year-old dumped victim with spine and knee issues. Its because of Dr. Foresters recommendation to place her on an over the counter herbal anti-inflammatory supplement instead of steroids which has extended her life. Knee surgery on one knee has helped Wolfie continue to be mobile to this day. Several of our cats lived well into their teens and twenties with the help of Four Paws. We now have cats that are 2 and 13 years old. Both are treated as individuals with their own strengths and weaknesses. Dr. Forester has never balked at my questions, nor my willingness to try alternative solutions or therapies. As a frequent client, I ask questions and participate in the decisions about the care of my pets. They respect my values and do a GREAT job answering my questions and helping me to decide on the medical and drug care that I am willing to perform on my pets (xrays, pilling, shots, etc), and to pay for. Yes, I highly recommend Dr Forester and Four Paws Staff.

Dr. Philip is a great vet, one of the best Ive ever had. I was a new patient this year. He removed 3 tumors from my dog and did an excellent job. The work was great itself and I appreciated all the information and througouness the whole staff provided. I was really scared to have my dog go under, havent ever done that before. Now that its done I wouldnt choose a different vet in a heartbeat. I love that he uses the words "if it were my pup" which is exactly the kind of vet that I need. The staff is intelligent and they have always checked up on us the day after apppintments. I also feel really comfortable asking Dr. Phillip questions, he never seemed judgmental or to have a quick response to get me out of there, he takes his time and seemed happy to explain anything I was confused about. My dog loves the vet techs there and I can tell that they really care for animals. Its just an all around great place. I would truly recommend them to anyone with pets.

Dont go here! These vets are idiots!! After my first visit they quickly diagnosed my dog with worms, okay, worms Ive heard of that before - quite common. Then 2 more visits where despite taking all of the expensive medication ( on top of the test fees and visit fees ) he still had worms. So I took him somewhere else and the quickly and cheaply correctly diagnosed the problem and cured him in 3 days; I feel so sad that my dog had to suffer that whole time while treating these "worms". I had another friend who took his dog there and they said that there was nothing they could do, when I heard where he had taken his dog I told him to take the dog somewhere else, which he did - and they properly diagnosed the dog with kidney stones which are easily curable. Dont waste your time or money, dont be fooled by the nice place and high prices - theyre idiots.

I ADORE Four Paws. About three years ago, we adopted a schnauzer. Although he was fine for a while, he began itching and biting himself, so much so that he always had one or more hot spots on his body and was a misery to live with. I took him to a local vet for well over a year, but nothing helped. We were at our wits end. I decided to try another doctor and just picked Four Paws out of the blue. Kirby was prescribed a new shampoo (the one I had been using was apparently the wrong kind for his condition) and a grain-free diet. Within a week, he had stopped scratching and biting--we honestly thought for a while that he was just neurotic--and his coat became shiny. A year and a half later, those bad times are a distant memory. Everyone there is so nice, too. I highly recommend!
