After confirming with two people at Bluepearl Renton, (the front desk person and the actual doctor who performed my dogs euthanasia), that my terrified Border Collie receive an injection of Morphine before any other injections, they ultimately just completely disregarded my request. They took my dog into another room and then brought her back with a catheter in her leg. The Dr., a female doctor with an Irish name like Moore or Murphy, (the fact that she is Irish is only mentioned as a way of identifying her, my only standard is competence) started with the first injection. I had only a few minutes earlier confirmed with this very doctor that my dog would receive an injection of Morphine first. I asked her, "so thats the Morphine right?" She replied, "No, we decided to "switch it out." I was so distraught about my poor dog that I didnt realize what was happening and an injection doesnt take very long. I wish I had had the presence of mind to grab that syringe out of her hand and stab her where the sun dont shine her. I said to the doctor, who didnt have a compassionate bone in her body and gave the impression that she really couldnt have cared less about what was happening, "she, (my dog) doesnt look relaxed at all, her tail is still all the way up between her legs." The doctor didnt even respond. She then proceeded with the subsequent injections, one to put her to sleep, and one to kill her. Ive had a lot of time now to think about just how unethical this procedure was. They flat out lied to me and as far as Im concerned, despite my every effort to have my dog die a death with dignity and calm, she was executed, not euthanized. I think this was her worst nightmare, or maybe mine, that my sweet little girl, who saved me from three muggers in Jefferson Park, and was the most obedient dog Ive ever seen, would be taken in a car, where she absolutely freaks out, to a place she is terrified to go to, and at that horrible place she would be killed. So they gave her a drug which did nothing to calm her down and feel relaxed and serene, probably so they could charge me a few more bucks, as opiates are dirt cheap and Buprenorphine is very expensive. If my dog was a person I would be suing Bluepearls ass off. The whole thing was a nightmare, for me and my dog, and there really should be some consequences for lying to me and giving me no explanation of why they "switched" the drug. They should start with refunding my money, not that it would make any difference, but Bluepearl is the king of over charging. My dog was not calmly euthanized, SHE WAS EXECUTED. WELL DONE BLUEPEARL!

Blue Pearl killed my cat. She desperately needed a medication for anemia and possibly a transfusion. I requested information on it from them and got no response from the specialist. Then I asked my regular vet, who also requested the information and also got no response. My cat, who had had a strong heart just a week earlier went into heart failure as a result of the untreated anemia and had to be put to sleep 2 days ago. If a fully qualified specialist consultant cant understand that when results show up on his desk showing a hematocrit of just half what it should be, it is a medical emergency, and treat accordingly then there is no hope for this hospital. Not only was treatment not suggested or offered, even when I found out what was needed myself and requested it, I couldnt get an answer in time to save my baby. All because the consultant had pretty much given up on her...lets never mind that other things were improving for her - but only because again Id found out what she needed and asked for it - he hadnt seen the improvement because he hadnt seen her since her last blood work and Id requested the treatments from that (I saw the low hematocrit on the paperwork later the same day...it wasnt mentioned to me in the phone discussion of her results) so he apparently didnt think it was worth trying to save her. I tried to make a complaint to the medical director but after requesting a way to contact her by email...oh, look, no response again. Either that or its being stalled while they figure out how to cover each others backs because they must know why Im trying to contact her. The medical director was the only person standing between the people responsible and a formal complaint to the licensing board...guess Im contacting the licensing board then. And I will NEVER bring another animal to Blue Pearl again...its a shame for those who treated her well and did their best to help her, but with people on the team letting owners and their pets down, I can no longer trust that my pets will be in safe hands with them.

We had gone to this place before it was called BluePearl. We had a good experience and the staff was caring. This time around I feel like we were being dismissed. We came in around 1145pm and they were quick to take my cat back in for a checkup. The check-in processing time was quick and that was fine. The assistants (nurses) in the back were nice. But what seemed long was, we ended up waiting over an hour for an in-house blood test result. What really frustrated me was when they told me they had to send out the rest of the blood work for more testing. We were told it would take the next day to get the results. But that didnt happen. We kept getting excuses of why the results did not come in the next day. I kept calling for an update and was told they still dont have the results and that the doctors were too busy to call me back with the results. GOD, what if my cat was dying or it was something serious! I was eager to know what was going on with my cat. The waiting time was tortuous. The staff/vet didnt seem that concerned and seemed to even be annoyed that I was constantly calling them. Thats ridiculous that I had to wait 2 days for a blood test result. Unacceptable! I asked for my cats prescription to be filled at another vet clinic and was told it was faxed. I called my local vet and was told Bluepearl didnt fax it yet and my local vet had called them too to confirm and was told that they will fax it. It took all day to get this done. I shouldnt have to deal with something like this that is so simple and could have been done in 5 min! So much headache in going back and forth. The stress Bluepearl gave me through this visit, made me decide not to return here again.

I wanted to rate this facility better but I just cant. They were kind and responsive to my Bulldog when it was suffering from a heart attack and got her on Oxygen right away. They also performed emergency prep work well and got her on an IV with medications. The problem I have was with the diagnosis and assistive help to get my dog the care she desperately needed in time. They held our dog Overnight and called us to pick up our dog. They said, "She was off Oxygen and breathing on her own. That she was fine to go home but we should follow up with a Cardiologist". When we picked up our dog she was lethargic and I questioned the release but the staff assured me she was drinking on her own and was OK. That night she suffered breathing problems about 1:00 am and we live on an island. We had to watch our dog suffer for 4 hours until we could get a ferry and get her help from another Blue Pearl facility which was much better. One that had a Cardiologist on staff. Dr Brian Eason was very kind and I know he did his very best at the Tacoma facility and it was unfair that he had to deal with our sorrow. Unfortunately, time was not on his side and the dog suffered two more Cardiac Arrests, fell into a coma and the choice was made to end her suffering. Its sad because we want to be grateful for the Emergency care but the decision to release our pet was poorly advised by the Renton facility. Their advice and actions resulted in undue suffering for our pet when we trusted them to give her the best care possible and were willing to pay the cost. She was a very special member of our family and now she is gone.
