I dont know where to begin. Last weekend, just as we were getting ready to leave for a mini vacation, our Golden Lab, Piper stopped eating. We knew because of her advanced age (had her since we got married) that it wasnt a good sign. Since our regular Vet was closed and since we live in Wallingford, we drove over to Emerald City Clinic. The Lady we dealt with was pretty up front and said the X Rays and tests confirmed a super enlarged heart and that it was, most likely a matter of hours. Neither of us could bring ourselves to give the OK to let her rest, so the Doctor gave orders to clear out one of the exam rooms and provided us with blankets and towels to we could tend to our Old Friend. We were there for 30 hours until she passed early afternoon the next day. This was horrible for us and what was even more horrible was that we were subjected to a constant parade of clients coming through the clinic with pets in different stages of emergency. The room we were in was right next to the front desk so it wasnt like we were trying to eavesdrop. What is it about an emergency that turns people into raving lunatics? Many were drunk and horribly abusive to the people who were trying to help them. Some made their own diagnoses and actually told the Doctor what the problem was and how much it was worth to fix it. My Wife and I wanted to crawl under a chair and pretend we werent there. One Guy even called the Doctor a money grubbing B**** and said he would take his business elsewhere, We looked at each other and my Wife whispered, "Good"!!! Im just writing this because I want people to know that if you want to make a living, dont become a Vet. Its not worth the abuse you have to take. Im sorry to have lost a wonderful friend and Im sorry that my Wife and I also had to see what we saw. Thanks, all of you at Emerald City, Youre crazy for doing the work you do, but youre also very thoughtful and compassionate. Dwight & Kay

We took our baby dog, Nolan here this past weekend. He was such a wonderful puppy. We were in a panic as our baby was very sick and we did not know what was going on. We arrived and the staff greeted us and were nice. Our vet was Dr. Foley and she was AMAZING! She is probably one of the best vets that I have had in a while. Our regular vet is Urban Animal, but they were not open at the time, so we had to seek care at the Emergency Clinic. Dr. Foley was sure she had a diagnosis, until the radiology reports came back from the X-Rays. It revealed several masses that were potentially cancer. Our baby was in a lot of pain so we made the decision, after talking with Dr. Foley, to euthanize him. The staff made him as comfortable as possible and Dr. Foley was so compassionate and caring. She really invested time into Nolan and she cared about his well being in every way that she could. She went over everything in detail, was realistic and not trying to gouge us, and helped us explore all possible (if any) treatment options. She is a very PASSIONATE vet and AWESOME! All of his options would have prolonged his pain and agony, hence our decision. He has now crossed the rainbow bridge, and is pain free, happy, wagging his tail, and playing with butterflies! :) The staff here is so kind, compassionate, and really cares about your animals. If you have an emergency, this is definitely the place to go as they will take care of your pet and respect your pet with dignity just as they do their own. I am very thankful to the staff for helping our Nolan have a peaceful passing across the Rainbow Bridge. Thank you, Dr. Clare Foley, and the staff at Emerald City Emergency Clinic! Again, I highly recommend them for all your emergency veterinary needs!

This clinic has been there for us twice, and I thought I should write a review to let prospective clients know what they can expect when they go here. First of all, its an ER. They are not your regular vet, and they see you immediately. Just like any ER, services cost a lot of money, mostly, and you should be ready for that. Also, Ive read people get offended when they start talking to you about money when your pet and you are in distress. Please remember this is, though unpleasant, a necessary part of the process. Beyond all that, you can also expect kind doctors and nurses who are there to make sure your little animals are well taken care of. As with any medical provider, you always have the right to ask for a second opinion. I have found myself having to go here in two occasions, and they have been very kind, and very attentive. Our last visit unfortunately resulted in us having to euthanize our 21 year old kitty. They were most kind, and let us do things at our pace. Explained all the options (including treatment to her condition), and all the costs potentially involved. Once we made the heartbreaking decision to let her go, they gave us all the time we felt we needed to say good bye and assisted to our grief in every way within their reach. In the end, we believe it was the most positive experience possible in circumstances such as this. I hope you never have to run out of your home with your sick pet in search of an emergency room, but if you do, just be aware that in such situations things are done a little differently than a regular visit to your vet.

Dont go here. They do a million things that are unnecessary and run your bill up into the heavens; then they make sure to make you feel as bad as you can about who you are as a person and continue their passive aggressive assault until your heads spinning. With us it concerned what we fed our dog, which is raw food, wonderful food - our dogs glowing with perfect health, coat, teeth, eyes, and energy at age six now (my wife and I know quite a bit about dog nutrition, more than the docs here, actually... who worship at the throne of pet grade corn, big biz dog food myopia, and pet grade meat, which is beyond insidious). {Later we found out on our own that our dog had eaten too much of a certain chew treat and that her stomach was upset big time... she looked so bad and lethargic that we took her to this vet wondering what was wrong - they tried to "teach" us that the problem was raw food, nothing else - they were wrong - she puked up the bits of chew treat hours later - no prob - she recovered quickly. We were out $350 bucks after tests, X-rays, etc.} I guess they cant help themselves. Theyre not good people. Really uppity, really combative. I dont really know what their problem is... people go to them looking for help and instead they get rude opinions on already-difficult nights and a big bill filled with unnecessary charges. We were new to the city when we went here. Never again. Stay away! Sincerely, Mr. Lighthouse

Recently, my wife brought an injured duck that she saw hit in the road to the Emerald City Emergency clinic. After finding out that they dont take in wild animals, the person at the counter explained (rather nonchalantly) that there was a clinic in EASTGATE that could take him in. Well, after explaining that she didnt have enough gas to get there, the person at the counter said, and I quote "Well, you made that choice when you picked up the injured duck, didnt you?" Well, yes, she made a compassionate decision that could have led to the ducks safe return to the wild. So sue her for that. After this whole incident, I called to inform whoever was in charge (who was mysteriously not on the phone with me) about this horrendous "bedside manner", I was informed (over and over again) that it is illegal for them to take wild animals in. Ok, I get it, no sweat there, my issue wasnt with that. When I (finally) got a word in edgewise, I was fed a deadpan "sorry" and nothing was to be done. "I cant do anything about that, sir." At least I got a "sir" out of the whole ordeal. Dont go here in an emergency. Just dont. Get some gas and drive to Eastgate. Save yourself the torment in a stressful situation.
