Mitch Owens – Physical Therapist at Union Physical Therapy I seldom right reviews, but when I do, it’s for exceptional talents like Mitch Owens. He’s the third PT professional I’ve seen in over the last 15 years, and clearly tops in his field. But it’s before I even started the process of therapy and recovery that Mitch stepped in saved my physical future. Mitch literally changed my life, and I have told him this directly. I had suffered a snow boarding accident, wasn’t getting any better and was misdiagnosed by an MD specializing in spine and sports medicine. Mitch did a much more thorough physical evaluation and found things inconsistent with that original diagnosis. He contacted the medical doctor with his findings and requested I get an MRI to be conclusive, to clear things up. This doctor is at the top of his field and he made a mistake. This takes a lot of tact, confidence and gumption to question the findings and diagnosis of another. Mitch was correct in that I had a more serious spinal cord injury and not just something evident in my extremities. Once I got the results of the MRI I was fast-tracked for spinal surgery. I had been walking around and living in a precarious state. One minor fall the wrong way and I would have been paralyzed. One minor traffic accident from living the rest of my life in a wheel chair. After surgery, we started up physical therapy again. Sometimes it’s weird – variations on a sobriety test for balance, sometimes it’s almost unnoticeable engaging minor muscles, and sometimes PT kicks your ass. I’m sure it’s different for every patient. Mitch does a great job explaining the exercises, the benefits, and what we’re trying to accomplish. He also provides videos, and emails patients the curriculum, which I find extremely valuable because at times I forget some of the important details. First Rate. Above and beyond what you would expect. I would recommend Mitch Owens to anyone and everyone with the need.

I dont want to sound melodramatic, but Sarah Haran changed my life. I had been living with a suspected torn labrum in my hip for 2 years before I finally got my act together and went in for PT. In those 2 years I had basically become inactive, and let my injury be an excuse to never move faster than a slow walk with a limp. I quickly got out of shape and just felt terrible, physically and emotionally. Sarah was patient with me as I moved like a slug through those first few visits, and she was great about explaining exactly HOW each and every exercise she was giving me was going to help with my injury. If ever I felt like something wasnt working quite right (Like, "Im feeling a click when I do this," or "I feel this more in my quads than my buns,") she always had a correction to give that made it work. Always. She knows her stuff, and she made sure I knew my stuff before I left every appointment. Not only did she help with the mechanical side of my injury, she also gave me some tips on diet modifications to support the work we were doing from the inside, things to reduce inflammation in the body. (In writing this, I tried to think of the last time I took an Advil... I think its been at least 2 months, and I was popping them every day before I started PT with Sarah). I saw her for about 3 months, and each week I could feel myself getting stronger, my symptoms getting less frequent, and the way I thought about my overall body health changing. She was an incredibly motivating force in my life, and I cannot recommend her enough.

I have been in pain for over two years from a car accident. I have tension on my neck and mid back that never went away, even after two years of massage, chiropractic, and acupuncture treatment. I was at a point where I have completely given up on all treatments and think that I would probably have to live with these pain for the rest of my life. Then I consulted with my doctor and he referred me to Mitch Owen. What was funny was, another person I know referred me to Mitch awhile back but I never went. I figured Mitch must be the best PT in Seattle so why not give it a try. After meeting Mitch for the first time, I knew I am in good hands. He is very passionate and very knowledgable about his profession. He takes the time to listen to my problems and provide me with effective treatments that triggers my pain areas. I have seen major improvements weeks after weeks. (I wish I wouldve seen him earlier). It has been three months of consistent treatment and the pain on my neck has decreased, the pain on my mid back went away. I cant thank him enough. I am so happy to be able to do the activities I once used to, without feeling pain, for a long period of time. I think anyone who is looking for the best PT should go visit Mitch and you will understand how good it feels to no longer have to live with pain.

I was suffering from hip pain for over a year without relief. Id gone to two doctors, a couple of massage therapists, a chiropractor and a physical therapist with little to no relief. At last I was referred to Sarah at Union PT and I feel so lucky!!! Sarah was not only able to determine the source of my problem but also made me feel 1. like I wasnt crazy (yes, I did have an actual injury!) 2. that surgery was not necessarily the only option and 3. that I would probably be able to get back to doing the activities I love even though at our first meeting it hurt to walk! Over the course of my treatments with Sarah I have seen dramatic improvement. I feel better physically day to day and my overall outlook is improved by her positive demeanor and encouragement. She really understands what her patients are going through and has been very helpful with finding solutions to any challenges Ive encountered. She has a great bedside manner and is honest in a very supportive way when guiding me with my exercises or helping identify changes I need to make in how I use my body. I really cant recommend Sarah enough. Im pretty sure Id have had hip surgery by now if I hadnt found her and I would probably still be in pain! thank you Sarah!!!

My entire experience with Union Physical Therapy has been excellent. I went to Union PT because I felt a pain in my knee whenever I went running. This pain started to occur during my training for a backpacking trip that required quite a bit of weight on my back and substantial elevation gain. I am a runner and I used to run 3-5 times a week, so the knee pain was an issue for me and threw me off my routine. During my first session, Dustin Steffan (DPT ) asked me detailed questions about the pain, my workout regimen and performed an initial assessment of the muscle groups that might cause the knee pain. He quickly figured out that my pain was coming from a weak hip flexer muscle and gave me a few easy exercises to do every other day. I complied diligently to my workout plan and was back to running without any pain after a few weeks of improving the hip muscle strength. He kept monitoring my progress for a few weeks and then graduated me from coming in. However, he kept checking in to make sure I was still pain-free by email. Dustin has been amazing to work with. He is very professional, clearly extremely knowledgable, and was simply a pleasure to interact with. I can highly recommend working with Dustin and UPT.
