We brought our cat in at like 1am because he hadnt been feeling good and seemed to havr gotten worse really fast. Hence the 1am visit rather than waiting to take him to his usual vet in the morning. We didnt wait too long since it was the middle of the night. They did a quick exam which very quickly revealed jaundice (which we felt horrible for not seeing but you couldnt easily see the whites of his eyes and we never had to check his ears). We informed the vet of his kidney issues that we were having treated and monitored so they did a work up. He was having a lot of issues but at first we didnt know much when we left him over night since we had to wait for the tests to come back. They kept in contact with us and the primary vet who had been treating him. They kept him for about two weeks and called us in the morning and talked to us at night when we would visit. THEY WERE SO GREAT AND KIND FOR LETTING US VISIT HIM EVERY NIGHT EVEN WHEN THEY WERE BUSY. And they always had such nice things to say about our pretty snow shoe seal point kitty. They took great care of him keeping him warm and hydrated. When finally they were letting him come home (though he wasnt fully better but well enough for us to tend to him night and day.) They were so great at teaching us how to take care of him and get him to eat without getting sick. Sadly he passed away the same day we took him home. It was like he wanted to pass at home so he got just well enough to be discharged... When we told Blue Pearl that he passed they cremated him, made an impression of his paw for us and send such personal, kind, caring, and compassionate card. We knew going in there was no guarantee he would get better but they helped ease his pain and made they last few weeks as comfortable as possible and we thank them for that. Hopefully we never have a pet in such dire conditions again but if we do Blue Pearl is the first place we will take them. They arent cheap but you get what you pay for. Great care and service.

Im neutral about this veterinary clinic. I brought my dachshund here in June/July of last year on the recommendation of Blue Pearl in Renton. My dachshund had a slipped disc and was on medication from our local veterinary clinic. His symptoms suddenly grew worse and, after the recommendation from BP in Renton, we brought him to the Tacoma location late at night. It took us nearly an hour to be seen because everyone was busy with another animal, which is understandable. We were finally brought into one of the examination rooms, where we explained our situation to the doctor. She brought him into the back to look at him and let him rest in one of the kennels before returning to speak with us. She gave us two options. Either we pay $5000+ for back surgery or we put him down. She stepped out while we contemplated our decision and we had finally decided to put him down because he was 8 years old and she said there was a 50% chance that the surgery would work. We were finalizing our decision to put him down when the doctor brought my dachshund back in the room. This is where I have a problem with this clinic. Im sorry, but you dont bring our dog back into the room when were trying to decide between expensive surgery and putting him down. At this point, were all very emotional because we actually have to look at our dog when the doctor says that we can always try switching his medication. THIS IS WHAT PISSES ME OFF. What kind of practice is this?! Why was this not a third option from the beginning?! This is also the point that makes my opinion neutral. Im mad that this clinic gave me the option to change his medication AFTER we had to decide between surgery and euthanasia. Im also grateful that we got the right mix of medication. Im happy to report that my dachshund is 100% better, I just wished the clinic went another way about it.

My dog has been to Blue Pearl a few times, and for the most part I have been perfectly happy with their service. I would bring my dog there again, and trust the staff to care for her. That being said, always ask if there are alternative treatments and what the major differences between the options are before your make a choice about how to care for your pet. After my last experience at Blue Pearl (details below), I am not sure I would have been told about alternatives if I hadnt asked the right questions. I am a very cautious dog owner, and would always rather pay an exam fee and have it turn out that my dog is fine than skip the vet and be sorry. What Im not okay with is paying for procedures that are expensive and unnecessary. On my last visit to Blue Pearl, the vet recommended admitting, sedating, and cauterizing what turned out to be a (very bloody) blackberry thorn scrape. My dog has been scraped like this before, and when I mentioned that treatment plan seemed extreme for a superficial wound the vet told me about a less expensive alternative, which he said he would use if she were his dog. I asked if the first option would be better for my dog in some way, or if there was some sort of drawback to the cheaper plan. The vet said there wasnt a drawback, as long as I watched her to make sure the bleeding stopped by the next day. He said if it didnt clot soon, I would have to bring her back in. This seemed very reasonable, and saved me at least $150 bucks and several hours of time. I also avoided the risks that come with sedation. I really dont think I would have been told about alternatives if I hadnt asked, so always remember to check and see what your options are and what the risks and advantages are between them. If Blue Pearl had offered me this information from the jump, I would rate them much higher.

We woke up on a Saturday morning and our dog was clearly sick. Our regular vet was closed and their voice mail directed us to the Animal Emergency Clinic. I got there and was quickly in processed and they had my dog back for triage and to get her vitals before I was done filling out paperwork. We saw the vet in short order and he was both polite worked well with our nervous and sick dog. Yes there was some sticker shock when treatment and diagnosis options were drawn up and presented before we moved forward. Not something Im used to but in the end, it is emergency care and it is emergency care for pets. People have different price points for what they can and will pay for pet care, I think over all its best to be up front about it. Honestly I dont really know what reasonable cost for an exam, tests, and a day of care. My dog was admitted for the day so they could run tests and monitor her health. I called twice durring the day to check on her diagnosis and status and was pleased to get the actual vet on the phone rather than a technician reading from a chart. When I went in to pick her up we were provided with the filled prescription for her immediate problem and a written prescription that I could fill if an over the counter solution didnt solver a secondary problem that we discussed. We also go printed packets describing her illness (parasite), the allergy issue and feeding directions for a bland diet. They also faxed all of Millies medical records over to our regular vet without being asked. Ill be going back to my regular vet for routine care, but in a minor emergency I felt taken care of here.
