The only good thing about my experience at the Tuscaloosa, AL Schaeffer Eye Center was the friendliness and professionalism of the two young physician assistants and the receptionist. After my first hour and a half appointment I was seeing much worse than I had been with my old contact lenses. During a second appointment that lasted approximately 2 hours the doctor changed my prescription, but I continued to have blurred vision. The doctor said she was “stumped” and suggested that my blurred vision was caused by “shallow blinking”. I’ve been wearing contacts for 15 years and “shallow blinking” has never been an issue. During a third office visit that lasted approximately 2 hours the doctor changed my prescription for a third time and asked that I come back in for a 4th visit. An accurate prescription had not been given during the first three visits, so I decided not to return for a 4th. Even though I was told prior to my first visit that my insurance would cover the entire cost of the exam, I received a bill for $49.00. Upon further inquiry I learned that Schaeffer Eye Center billed my insurance $20 for dilation, a procedure that was suggested by the doctor but never performed. I guess its okay to bill insurance companies for procedures you wanted to do rather than only billing for those you actually performed.

I would not recommend for a few reasons: 1. My glasses were $200.00 more than my last pair. 2. I picked them up, and was handed them and sent on my way. Mamie behind the counter didnt want to be bothered with fitting me right then, because the tables were busy and told me to come back. They are digging into my head behind my ears right now. Yes, I should have insisted on a fitting! 3. I need bi-focals. When Mamie gave me a chart, I realized by their chart that I can not read 20/20. I bring this to her attention and she told me that 20/40 is excellent!! Now I am wearing reading glasses to read because the prescription is not right. I have to take them back and try to get them to change the prescription. Which I fear will be one big hassle. Go ANYWHERE but this location.

The people who work here are disorganized and its not worth it to deal with them. You should really take your business elsewhere, I know I will. They only get one extra star because they do eventually fix their mistakes. There is usually at least 30 minutes of waiting. Two years in a row my eyesight was misdiagnosed and my prescription had to be fixed. This year I chose to get contacts; they were supposed to order a trial pair for me but I had to call them after two weeks because they hadnt done anything. When I called they put me on hold for 15 minutes at which point I hung up. When I went to finally pick up my trial pair, even though their website says they close at 6PM Friday they were already closed at 5:15PM.

Website said they were open today but when I got there there was no one in the store that can assist you with glasses. Only a receptionist working. Wasted my time driving there. An eyeglass store that is open but cant sell you glasses even with a prescription is crazy. If they are going to advertise they are open then they should have staff on duty to assist you! I wonder how much business they lost today being Presidents Day and kids out of school?

They only see as a customer who they try to take as much money they can. They do not view you as a patient. Will not go back. The reason they are so rich is because they will charge your vision coverage and then run more tests and have your major medical pay for it. They love test. Makes you wonder

There are a lot of bad reviews on here, but Ive only had positive experiences here. There has been times when Ive had to wait a little longer than I wanted to, but overall the people that work here are very nice. Id highly recommend this place! ☺️

Had a eye appointment on January 4, 2016 at 3:40 pm. Signed into the Center at 3:15. At 5:35 I still havent seen the Optometrist.. They overbook, sit you in a hallway only for you to stare at the wall. BAD BUSINESS!

My wife arrived early for an 11am appointment, waited over an hour to see the doctor. Spent over 2 hours at the clinic for a simple eye exam.
