My husband had a mild stroke and he was transferred from Emanuel Medical Center to CPMC due to the doctors couldnt find the cause of the stroke. So while he was still at CPMC, they were still trying to find out what cause the stroke and was still under observation when he had another major stroke and they were still trying to find out what caused it as he never had any blood clots or blockages. Finally they found out what kind of stroke it was and they were trying to save his life at the same time. When they told us that he had Medulla Oblongata, my kids and the rest of the family looked at each other as we have never heard of this kind of stroke. So all the doctors that were assigned to my husband did all they could and yes they did save his life but my husband was paralyzed from his neck down to all his movement. The main part of his brain that helps with everything the body does got damaged, so in other words he couldnt speak, eat or move. The doctors, nurses and other staff were all wonderful and they took great care of him. Because of him being transferred to CPMC, he got to live for another two and half years and we were fortunate enough to have him around so he could somehow see his daughter get married and also met his future daughter-in-law. And he also got to meet so many different people. Yes, his life wasnt great at all but he never complained and never blamed anyone. The best part of his short lived life was that he got to tell everyone that took care of him, he thanked them from his heart, asked for forgiveness and said his goodbyes. We learnt a lot from him and also we got strength from him too. Yes, I do agree that not everyone gets the same experience doesnt matter what hospital or nursing home the loved ones is at but we do get to learn how to take care of each other. We live in the outskirts of Modesto and my husband was in a nursing facility in the Bay Area and we commuted everyday to be with him and at the same time had to go to work too. So a big thank you goes to all the staff who took care of my husband at CPMC in the ICU department from all the family members.

EMPLOYEE THEFT - CYNTHIA KIM I hate to leave a review like this but Cynthia Kim has left me no choice. Ive tried calling countless times to try and get my Burberry Jacket that was left in the ER while I was going through a pretty serious trauma. I was given Cynthias contact information after talking with security and they said they couldnt find my jacket. They said she could help. Ive called Cynthia Kim 8+ and she called me back once, after my third voicemail and she said she would look into and get back to me that day. She said its funny but things "just happen to turn up after she gets involved". I was hopeful after hearing that. Since it was close to thanksgiving I thought Id give her extra time to respond. I attempted to call her a week later, then countless times after that with no call back. This is a very unprofessional way to handle this situation. Its convenient that a very expensive jacket goes missing and a helpless patient cant do anything about it. Theres no real point of contact at the hospital so former patients are truly helpless. I hate to point blame but after hearing Cynthias feedback on how things just turn up is a sign that theres theft issue at this hospital. Cynthia and her team are doing nothing to fix the issue and are part of the problem.

I am a registered nurse. I was an inpatient for an overnight stay after a spinal fusion. Just as I was leaving the hospital, someone from PT came into my room & told me they were going to teach me how to dress myself & take my neck brace off & put it back on. This is as I was dressing myself. She handed me some gadget to use to put my socks on as I was putting on my socks. She gave me some device to use to pick things up from the floor. I told her I didnt need either of them, though I got charged for them (I left them in the hospital). When I got my bill, I was charged over $400 for a visit they claim they made to teach me how to walk on my own (which I had been doing since returning from the recovery room) & then received another fee for over $900 for being "taught" how to dress & deal with my collar. My surgeon had told me not to take the collar off for about a week & it stayed on from the time I left surgery to seven days later. I contested the fees & they said they would "review" my records. They came back stating that the records showed I received these services & that was their final input. I had to pay over $1500 for NOTHING!

The doctors, nurses, and staff here are great. Caring, helpful, professional. But if youre looking for physical/occupational therapy (or other walk-in services) and care about cost, Id suggest looking elsewhere. What no one there will tell you is that CPMC is a Hospital "place of service", in health insurance parlance. Which means that youre going to be billed under the "outpatient services" part of your insurance plan, and probably pay a lot more. This category likely uses deductible + co-insurance (e.g. you cover the full cost up to $500, then pay 20%), not copay (e.g. pay flat $30 per visit). Standalone PT providers are usually an Office place of service, and likely will just have a co-pay. Plus, they tend to charge a lot less. Check your insurance plan, and ask for prices upfront. Im giving one star because no one told me this at CPMC, and they even billed me for the copay upfront (just like an "office"). It wasnt until I got the bill and called my insurer that I learned about the difference in billing.

My fiance had a stroke and was sent here from Modesto area hospital for a successful surgery HOW EVER during his brief stay in the icu I was approached by the lead nurse who then proceeded to tell me he had no viable signs of life in him and he would never come out of an institution and his family had decided the following day they were coming and would peacefully take the meds he needed and let him pass ND that I needed to prepare myself....the following day however he said his first word since stroke, be has always known who I am to him and is now standing AND we are awaiting transfer orders so he can begin rehab....the icu nurse was nothing other than An uncaring emotionless monster we hope to never have the misfortune to have to encounter her nasty life attitude again

If I could give 0 stars, I would. First, I need to say that the ICU was EXCELLENT, but this is an overall review, so I cannot give a good score. My best friend had a surgery at this facility and had to stay at the hospital for 6 days. The ICU treated him very well, but he was moved to the 3rd floor and treated abominably for the last 3.5 days of his stay. He was left in highly uncomfortable positions for hours to the point of intolerable pain. He ended up with avoidable injuries and ultimately feeling uncared for. The staff at this hospital is either over-tasked or just generally disingenuous and uncaring. Emergency nurse calls from the bed were not answered timely, in one case it took over an hour to get a response. Not recommended at all.
