Im transferring my care after two negative experiences. The most recent being today. I called to refill my dogs prescription for soloxine (a standard, non-regulated drug used for treatment of hypothyroidism) to PetMeds and received a call back stating that I would need to speak with Arvada Vet Clinic regarding an updated T4 check. I did this and scheduled an appointment for the following Thursday and requested additional meds to bridge the gap until her appointment. The front desk assured me this would not be a problem and said to stop by and pick them up so my dog wouldnt miss a dose. I made a special trip in the next morning only to find out they did not have the prescription ready and that Dr. Seethaler refused to give the meds until she had her blood test. I had to argue that there would be no point in having her blood test preformed if she has been off her meds for the three days in between her last pill and the scheduled blood draw. What a hassle, I had to argue to keep my dog regulated on her medication for a blood draw that would have been pointless without it. They finally realized the medical validity of my argument and gave me 4 pills, (she needed 5 to get her to her next appt.) so I had to argue again for the extra pill. The up-charge was unreal! PetMeds charges approximately $45 for 240 pills - Arvada Veterinary Hospital charged me ~$10.50 for 4 pills - thats over a 1,300% mark-up! Simple customer service solutions could have changed everything. For example, a call from the vet prior to me coming in to explain her position on not providing an interim refill (historically, Ive never had an issue with this) and or when they realized it was an error on their part, it would have been wonderful for them to have acknowledged this, apologized and provided the interim refill without the time and hassle it took.

I am extremely disappointed, I called in for my cat who has megacolon and has seen a different vet in the past for this. My cat gets aggressive at the vet and my past vet has dealt really well with this. I warned them ahead of time that he would need to be sedated to be examined and would not be able to be touched otherwise. My appointment was for 10:30 am, I did not even get to talk to the vet until 11:15, meanwhile my cat is stressed beyond belief. The vet talks to us for literally 5 min, does not even LOOK at my cat, and then comes up with an $850 estimated bill. Which is about $600 more than the last vet for the same exact issue which was that he was needing an enema. At that point I decided I would rather take him back to my old vet who is farther away. They proceeded to charge us $57 for the exam even though they did NOT examine my cat-literally did not even touch him. We literally just paid to wait in the examination room for an hour and a half and talk to a vet for 5 min. I had briefed the people over the phone about exactly what was going to be needed ---my last vet saw us in a much more timely manner---if your appointment is at 10:30, you should not have to wait until 11:15 to talk to a doctor. Absolutely ridiculous. I feel completely scammed. Will never go back there again!

I strongly recommend against taking your pet to Dr. Houchins for care. We brought our dog in for suspicion of Lymphoma and he used and antiquated and risky procedure surgery for diagnosis. After he padded his books using his old surgical procedure he referred us to VRCC for treatment. Once at VRCC we were told that the average life expectancy for our dog was 4 weeks. Dr. Houchins anitquated and invasive surgery for cancer diagnosis takes 10-14 days for the results. We used a VRCC recommended test (Flow Cytometry) that pulled a sample with a needle (Dr Houchins removed a whole lymph node, leaving a 3 inch incision, infection, anesthia, and pain killers) that yields more detailed results in less than 3 days. Worst part is Dr Houchins stands by his antiquated work and seems to have no interest is using newer less invasive testing. I would strongly recommend taking your pets anywhere but here for services.

Dr. Houchens has been our vet for over 25 years. We have had pugs with diabetes, going blind, deaf and most recently cancer. Dr. Houchens took biopsies and shared preliminary results and said all the bumps needed to come off. Our little pug has six areas to be operated on. They took her in the next day and she looked like a patchwork quilt when I picked her up. She has recovered and we were told how to care for her and if we found any bumps to come in immediately to have it checked. Over the years we have seen all the doctors and they are all wonderful! Dr. Houchens has always treated our babies as if they were his. If we have ever had to wait, I remind myself, we have been the emergency many times over the years and it is my turn to wait so another can be cared for with more urgent needs. Dr. Houchens and the team of doctors at Arvada Hospital are the best you can find!

In the six years we were away from this practice, they went from a great facility to absolutely the WORST. The communication was horrible from the get go. I will not be going back! I went to a new vet and told them about what happened @ Arvada Vet Hospital and they shook their heads in disbelief. * please if you love your pets as much as we love ours -- DO NOT take your animals here* Ask for your pets printed pet records. I asked for them so that we could take them to the new vet - much to our surprise she had dictated about another dog. ~~~~~ ~~~~fyi: Dr. Houchins took a buy out and unfortunately left the establishment into the hands of idiots. 4 2015

WOW!! This place is amazing! I work in the human medical industry and only wish it was as caring and compassionate as Arvada Veterinary Hospital. From the moment I walked in the door I was greeted by caring, competent staff. My furry best friend was in distress and they immediately took not only care of my beloved animal, but took time to make sure I was constantly updated and completely understood everything!! This is a great example of TRUE customer service and excellent patient care!! I could not be more happier with the service I received and will pledge my loyalty to their excellence in veterinary medicine and customer service!!

I am so thankful for all of the staff and doctors at Arvada Veterinary Hospital. I rescue senior animals who often have special needs, and your staff makes me feel well informed and able to handle new complications. I will not forget the compassion shown to me by April and the other vet techs when my old kitty passed earlier this year, and I will continue to trust you all with the medical care of my other old guys. Editing this post to add that between my various pets I have seen Dr. Adams, Dr. Anema, and Dr. Sepp- all have been knowledgeable and caring.
