Shanks name says it all. Hes a butcher!!! He gave my cat unnecessary surgery. On a Saturday he had the surgery. My baby stayed with them until Thursday. We called and said that he has a lot of drainage and he said it was normal to bring him in. he said he was fine. We brought the cat to another vet and they told us that it would be a bad idea to open him up because they did not know what shank did to him. So we called shank. He was supposed to be a 24hr ER and he had to tell us that he has to drop his dinner to come. Sorry it was such a bother to you. When he came he didnt even turn on all of the lights. It looked like a horror movie. I should have grabbed my baby and brought him somewhere else. But because I tried to trust him I stayed. He said to bring him the cat and he started touching the intestines with his bare hands. NO GLOVES. I should have said something and I was going to. But I just wanted my baby to stop shivering from pain. He said it wasnt the intestines after touching whatever was falling out of my baby. He had to fix him so we left. He probably shoved it back in and since it was a Saturday my baby had to go all night with no love or care. We still went there sun and called but no one answered. We got him back Monday. That night he was having seizures. Tuesday another vet said that he had a severe infection. That day they put him to sleep because he was in tremendous pain. PLEASE FIND A DIFFERENT SURGEON IF YOUR LOVED ONE NEEDS ANY. I BROUGHT MY XRAYS TO AN OTHER VET AND THEY TOLD US IT ALREADY HAD PAST THE INTESTINES. THE SURGERY COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED. If he wasnt 100 percent sure if the surgery would work he should have told us. Our baby went thru 9 days of pain.Im only writing this because it has been less than year and I see more and more people with the same horrible issues weve had. He is so fake when he talks to you its also scary. We have four cats and they lost their brother and I lost MY BABY MAN!!!!!! MY BABY!!!! Im writing this and Im crying my eyes out. That was family I lost. He never got a chance to live. The other cats know hes gone also. My kids miss him and we have to live with this pain too. My poor baby Calypso...

Sadly, I have been forced to revise my opinion of Dr. Shank after months as a client. INITIALLY I WAS HAPPY THAT: 1) Dr. Shank seemed like a charming old-school tough-love country vet 2) Prices were rock-bottom 3) Staff genuinely loves animals and works hard OVER TIME, I DEVELOPED CONCERNS: 1) Dr. Shank told us Cat was overweight - we took this very seriously, bought prescription food and changed his regimen, but because we were not instructed in the best way to do this (gradually), we upset his eating habits severely 2) The next time he came in for a checkup Dr. Shank changed his mind without explanation and said his weight was fine, in spite of a difference of just 4oz. All the stress and anxiety to cat and us over his eating was apparently for nothing! 3) Dr. Shank spends a frustrating amount of time telling unrelated stories rather than focusing on the patient. Its nice not to feel rushed, but can we at least keep it somewhat relevant? MOST SERIOUSLY: 4) Yesterday I brought Cat in for a limp in his right leg. Dr Shank said he needed x-rays that would cost $570 (Whaaaat?). He also showed me what he said was a dental abscess that required surgery and possible tooth extraction. All told this treatment was going to cost $970. When I took Cat for a second opinion (after much anxiety and deliberation) the vet found no evidence of an abscess, only tartar. He also explained that x-rays (which the facility charges $150 for-not even close to $570) would tell us very little about Cats gimpy leg. The sudden wild overcharging and misdiagnosis from Dr. Shanks office is just not acceptable. Dr. Shank did mention that the pricing software his office was using was new and unfamiliar, so maybe he made a mistake, but its a mistake I would have paid for if I hadnt got to another vet! I dont think well be going back. Taking Cat to Seiler Animal Hospital from now on. Those people are outstanding.

My original thought when I got to the hospital for my appointment was where am I and what is this. The place is run down, the staff was not there in the morning, we had to wait outside for over half an hour because they were late, and if it wasnt for another customer telling me its a great place, I would have taken my cats and ran. It looked like an abandoned site. The good thing which at first I thought was very cool is that when you call the office after hours, dr. Shank always answers the call. The bad thing is he sounds asleep each and every time. And if you catch him on a Sunday, he will ask you what is so urgent that you have to call me on a Sunday. Well dr. Shank my cats lives are urgent when I see the job you did look like a butchering session. My cats got spayed and it looks like the incision is opening up. On top of that the incision looks like it was botched. Theyre full of pus and theyre barely eating and drinking. Ive cleaned their surgery site with hydrogen peroxide but now Im going to take them to another vet. If youre wondering , there were no after surgery instructions. No help, no andwers to any of my questions and I had to tell them that they have to give me pain medication for them... I dont dare take them back to him after all of this. I feel horrible for staying there that morning when my intuition told me to run away with my cats as fast as I can. Dr. Shank may be a nice man,, in business for 25 years, he may even do a great job sometimes, however if you love your pet, dont take that risk because theres a 50/50 chance things may not end very well for your pet and whats worse the customer service during and after will be frustrating and enfuriating as you watch your pets health decline and possibly even die. Read some of the other posts. Some people have lost their pets in the hands of dr. Shank. This is very disheartening.

Beware. You have been warned. This place is full of a bunch of people who have no idea what they are doing. I experienced multiple horror stories unfortunately before learning my lesson. They cropped my Great Danes ears claiming they were "specialists" immediately upon picking her up I told shank he didnt even take barely any ear and they would never stand. Told me I was wrong and if I wasnt he would fix them. I told him I just wanted him to fix it now and he declined. A month goes back and what do you know, no chance of them standing. Take her back and they recut them. Go in and again he messed it all up. After making a scene and showing pictures again they decided to put her under again for the third time to fix their mistake. Finally they got it right this time but demanded I pay almost $300 even though it was their mistake and supposed to be free. Then the next.. My other Great Dane was deathly ill.. Brought him to shank 4x and he ran all kinds of tests.. Even told me it might be a mental condition which even I could say absolutely not. He kept hopping him up on steroids and charging me $600 every time mean while my dog is dying. Finally went to another vet and she diagnosed him as he was carried into the door (as he couldnt stand up) two days later my dog is 100% full puppy again and has been for over a month. This guy is a rip off and doesnt know anything. He is so old he practically tried to. Treat my dogs with bleed out methods. If you care for your animals stay far away.
