(Sadly, I cannot create a new post or lack the knowledge of doing so. Update at the bottom.) This is by far the worst hospital I have had the displeasure of staying at or visiting. This past visit is for my autistic brother who had two emergency issues. One was moderate to heavy fluids being in the pericardial sac. The second one is bilateral Pleural Effusion, plus two bacteria and blood in the urinary track, which we found out within the first two hours. The next five and a half hours was spent waiting on what seems to be nothing with no answer in sight. Our nurse is great and awesome but the rest of the hospital just isnt up to par. Blood work was taken, yet no further information was given. (I understand certain test may take days, but they have a white blood cell count and that information has not been told to us yet.) His vitals have only been taken twice, baseline and one other time because we insisted on it. The EKG was never set up and no orders for antibiotics or any further test have been made. We arrived at the hospital around 7 p.m., they ran test while we waited to be admitted into the ER which finally happened at 10 p.m. Now it is almost three a.m. Sadly this is our local hospital and if I had to go to a hospital, Id take the risk of a longer drive than to be left in such a crappy place. The ER doctor was overwhelmed and incompetent and on top of that, extremely rude. Plus, they didnt even have a pillow for him to lay on. Im posting this at 3 am and still waiting. We are going to transfer him to a different hospital. If you love your family and wish to have the best care and service, dont bring them here. ________________________________________________________________________ Hello everyone, I guess it is time for an update. Sadly, I cannot change my rating due to what happened. After five days of being at Palms West, my brother was discharged with gout medicine and told everything will be good. Less than twenty-four hours later of him still not feeling good and his health seeming to continue heading south, my parents decided it was time to take him to Saint Marys Hospital. He was immediately taken back into the ER and had received several different scans, had an IV put in, base vitals were taken and checked every 10 minutes. They couldnt believe that my brother was still able to breath, let alone be alive. Some even stated that Palms West released my brother with a life-threatening condition. The Saint Marys ER staff and team worked quickly and effective and gathered more information on my brothers condition in the first four hours than Palms West in the five days they had him. He had a partially collapsed lung on the left side and the right lung soon to follow, along with a large build up of water. Saint Marys staff than arranged transport to the Delray Medical Center for surgery and recovery. Their team of trained specialist had him on the table within hours of his arrival and had drained over 200cc from around the heart as well as the liquid from around his lungs. Over his two week recovery, they had drained nearly 2000cc. The staff took great care of him and my family as they stayed by his side through this difficult time. Ive personally had a lot of bad experience with Palms West, but with them willing to discharge my brother as they did. Knowing that he was unfit to leave. (Only one doctor didnt sign his discharge papers.) I can say, this is by far the worst hospital I have ever had the displeasure of being at or having a loved one be treated at. Like I said before, if you love your family or friend and wish to have the best care and service that should be at any hospital, despite race, religion, income or whatever reason, dont bring them to Palms West. It is sad to say that the standard of care there is below what any person deserves.

If I could give negative stars I would. I have had 3 negative expierences here and will NEVER use this hospital again. First time was with my first son. I had to use this hospital because this is where my OB delivers. Nurses were great up until the delivery time. My nurse was extremely rude and un concerned about me and my baby. Mind you this was my first child and my first delivery and I didnt have an epidural. My nurse called me a sissy after the first push and then managed to forget to "call" my OB once my sons head was out. So my son just sat there with his head partially out for 15 minutes and had the nerve to yell at me to not push until my doctor got there. Mind you at the point my body took control and was pushing on its own, I couldnt stop it. My son came out with the worse cone head Ive ever seen. Everything after that point was just as terrible. Second time: 2 years later I had to return to this place to deliver my second son. I had to be induced and the nurses allowed a student to put my IV in. She was visibly nervous about it and I had asked if the nurse herself could do it and she told me no the student has to do it. So I said fine and Student missed my vein and caused a lot of bleeding and pain. So the nurse then has to poke me again to get the IV put in properly something that would have been avoided had they listened to me in the first place. Everything was great after that. My nurse at the time of delivery was wonderful my delivery was 10x better this go around because of her. The nurses after her though were awful. Tried to force feed my son formula even though he was strictly to be breastfed. One nurse offered to watch him while my boyfriend and I rested for a little bit and I sent her with freshly pumped breast milk and she chose to feed him formula instead. This in turn caused him to very confused and he quit eating period. Which in turn caused his Jaundice to go up. Every nurse we had up until the day we left were just absolutely terrible. Forgetting medications. Very rude. And completely aloof. Third: I had to return a couple days later because as I mentioned before my son ended up with Jaundice. This time we were placed in the pediatrics side. My boyfriend and I were provided with a couch to sleep on big enough for one small person to sleep on. They set his incubator temperature way too high which caused a sunburn like rash on my newborn. A nurse wanted to cathererize my son who was just freshly circumcised a day before for a pee sample which we had to tell her absolutely not. So she then rubbed his circumcised penis with alcohol wipes until it bled profusely to get him to pee. it was to the point that I was in complete tears because my newborn is being unnecessarily tortured. I will never ever return to this place and advise all to steer clear.

I reported Palms West to the Better Business Bureau. My two month old sons substitute Pediatrician referred us to Palms West Hospital on 7/25/2014 due to his age. He had an elevated temperature reading that morning and was fussy and spitting up that afternoon when we visited his Pediatrician office. Immediately after the doctors, I left my wife to drop off my son at Palms West Hospital, and then drove to Broward County to bring my daughter to her grandmothers during late-rush hour traffic. In the time it took me to drive to Broward and all the way back to Palms West (well over an hour), my wife informed me that no medical professional had seen my son yet. She and my son had been assigned a room by administration, but in that ENTIRE TIME... not at check-in or while in the room, NO ONE; not a doctor, nurse, technician, intern, or even a volunteer, had entered the room to check my sons well-being or even acknowledge his existence. Furthermore, I had to speak to my wife by phone from the parking lot, as I was denied entry into the ward where my family was because it was "shift change." I was horrified at the complete lack of professionalism and care during this visit to this hospital. Especially considering this visit concerned the health of a newborn. I immediately contacted Boca West Hospital and took my child out of Palms West Hospital as quickly as I could. Today, 8/25/2014, we received a bill for $1.336.00 ($1202 covered by insurance and $133.60 as our portion.) for a Room Charge. While it seems they cannot get to their patients in a timely manner to treat them, their billing department is certainly on the ball. This is by far the most ridiculous attempt at a cash grab I have ever experienced from a hospital. We will be contacting our insurance company to dispute these charges and also be reporting this incident to the Florida Dept. of Health and any other agency involved in the oversight of hospitals.
