We just had a terrible experience with bringing our full grown dog in with a fractured nail. The doctor was more comfortable talking to animals over humans - I could barely get any information from her and she seemed absolutely intimidated by me. They had me lift my 65lb dog onto the examination table myself - thank goodness I was physically able to. The doctor did not address specific questions and concerns of mine regarding antibiotics and medications. When they were doing the examinations I was solely responsible for restraining the dog - which bothers me because I am not experienced in handling animals in such an intense situation... because of all of this I was very afraid that the dog was going to flail straight off that examination table and fall 4ft+ to the tiled floor. When we picked our pup back up we were informed that he tested positive 6 months ago for limes disease - which is interesting because we were never informed. This could have turned into something serious and when asked as to why we were not informed they totally dismissed the issue without reason. On getting home we realized our pup was having A LOT of trouble with the dressing of the wound. They wrapped it WAY too tight with ace bandages and we had to re-wrap it ourselves. Also upon getting a second opinion the day after it turns out that they used straight gauze, without non-stick padding on the wound. When the Anamosa Vet Clinic (awesome folks) checked it out the clotting had dried directly into the gauze causing our pup some intense pain when having to remove the dressing. As I previously mentioned, we went to Anamosa Vet Clinic the day after and I got to witness how true veterinary professionals work. It was a night and day difference... I *REALLY* wish we would have just gone there first - I feel guilty having left my pup with Blairs Ferry Pet Hospital - *VERY* guilty.

Blairs Ferry Pet Hospital does not provide good customer service and focuses on profits instead of customer satisfaction. A recent story to help clarify my rating for future customers is that the veterinarian is not personable and did not notice our kitten had ear mites until the second visit. When the vet. noticed, the vet. prescribed a cheaper medicine to take care of both of our cats which was supposed to be used for 14 days and I questioned if the bottle would last for both of them because it was a small amount. The vet. claimed it would and should be plenty for both cats as if the vet. was not sure about the answer. It only lasted 4 1/2 days, so I went back to find out why or buy another prescription and they were very rude. The worst part about this situation is that the veterinarian would not come out of the back to speak to me, instead stood close enough to the door so I could here them explain it was impossible for this to happen and that it was my fault. Their solution for me was to accuse me of being an idiot and started to provide a hands on example of how to apply ear drops. I felt like I was stupid and then they went on to add that they could not sell me another prescription at cost and that I had to pay the full price again. I was very offended that they would treat a loyal customer in this manner and provide a solution before I could even ask them for a new prescription drug. After the front desk person boldly stated I had to pay the full price, when price was not the issue, I stated, "I will take our cats to a new pet hospital," and walked out the door. Therefore, if you do not want to experience a pet hospital that is profit focused and provides poor customer service, I recommend not going here.

I took my cat here for the first time in February 2011 after having moved to the area. We were only going in for her regular yearly shots. When I first made the appointment, I let them know that my cat is mildly allergic to distemper shots, and that she would need some benedryl to go with the shot. When we got to the clinic for our appointment and checked in, I repeated to the receptionist that my cat is allergic to distemper shots and would need the benedryl. I was assured this was in our chart and would not be a problem. When we were in the room with the vet for the shots, I AGAIN mentioned Kikis allergy and the benedryl. The vet had no idea what I was talking about. Terrible service, terrible organization, terrible communication. I will NEVER take any animal to this clinic, and I advise you to go elsewhere.

This pet hospital is the best I have used of the three I have tried here in Iowa since moving here 5 years ago. I can always get an appt. that works for me. And they dont try to push me into services or treatments we dont want or need. Always treated very politely and the vets always take the time to talk with me about my pets conditions and treatment in full detail. Love them and would not take my six babies anywhere else unless it was an emergency after hours! Highly recommended!!!!!!

I have been a client at Blairs Ferry Pet Hospital since early 2005. Both Dr. Streeper and Dr. Lemmy have an obvious love of animals and have provided top-notch care for my cats. I have had to get urgent care a few times for them, and the office has been very understanding and shown genuine urgency in getting them the care they needed as soon as humanly possible. I unequivocally recommend them to anyone looking for a sincere and caring vet for their fuzzy family members. :)

I was looking for a place to take my guinea pig for a check up and to trim her nails. Everywhere else was almost double the price. Excellent service at a low cost! Everyone there was very nice and really cared for my guinea pigs health! Definately recommend this place!
