Words cannot describe how fortunate we are to have an animal hospital like Calvert Animal Hospital in our backyard. My family has been taking our pets here for over 20 years. 13-15 of those years we saw Dr. Brown and never had an issue with him one bit. Dr. Brown is an old school and wise Veterinarian. While some comments mention that he may have no bedside manners, I think they misunderstand Dr. Brown. He doesnt sugar coat things and tells it to you straight..... with a country twang to it. I actually find him quite entertaining and a good doctor. We moved away for a few years but came running back to good ole Calvert. We tried some of the vets in Prince Frederick and thought their prices were super high and that our pet was just another number in their books. We ended up coming back to Calvert Animal Hospital and happened to see Dr. Stotler (Dr. Brown was booked up). Since seeing Dr. Stotler, we recommend to everyone that we know to see him (Nothing against Dr. Brown). He is a fantastic vet, has great "bedside manners", and has done numerous surgical procedures on our animals without any issue what so ever. The only thing to be aware of is that on occasion, there could be a wait...... but what do you expect for such a good doctor?!?! Ill wait to make sure my pets receive the best care possible!

If Dr. Brown were a doctor for humans, I would say he has no bedside manner. I took my boxer there, who was gravely ill at the time. He said from what he could see from a short two minute exam, there was nothing wrong with him. Cooper had been throwing up so badly for days that he could barely stand. I walked out to the front desk with a huge bill for a 5 minute visit and no service at all. I refused to pay the bill because I was so displeased. I ended up going to another vet who did some tests and found out that our little buddy had cancer. His kidneys had shut down because of the dehydration and he ended up down at MASH, the emergency vet in our county. They got the dehydration under control and saved his life. We had another year with Cooper before he succumbed to the cancer after treatments failed. But, to watch him go through that when it could have been caught by Dr. Brown earlier on was the most frustrating part. If he had really examined him, we might have known then that he was severely dehydrated instead of waiting until it was so bad that he couldnt even stand. Terrible service...no bedside manner...doesnt seem to care about an animals well being at all. I can promise Ill never step foot in this vet again.

I agree with the first and third reviews, they absolutely have NO PEOPLE SKILLS... I dont care how wonderful the doctors may or may not be if you dont have someone who is knowledgeable and friendly (or at least polite) answering the phone then many people will never even take the time to bring their pets in to even find out, as that is a reflection on the entire practice. I asked many questions that were not answered, the receptionist was short with me and there were many periods of complete silence after I asked a question - I dont know if the woman wasnt listening but I actually had to say "that was a question, Im asking you..." This is not the first experience Ive had with unfriendly and unhelpful staff members answering the phone at this clinic and it is very unprofessional and unfortunately reflects negatively upon the hospital - this is unfortunate as the staff members who actually work with the animals are absolutely wonderful!!!!

I simply called to ask for hours, seeing as theyre not posted on here. Basic gist of the phone call: *ring* "...Hello? "Uh. Hi. Is this the--" "Hell-O??" "Hi. This is the Calvert Animal Hospital, right?" "Yeah. Doctor (so and so) is out right now. What do you want?" "...I was just calling for the--" "The what?" "....The hours." "Well. Hell be back on Monday. You can call then." "Oh..kay... Thanks.." "(silence.)" Seriously? My cat couldve been dying and it seems like they wouldnt care in the least. The least you can do is say "Hi, this is Calvert Animal Hospital" so I dont feel like I just called someones home. Overload of people, pets, and phone calls or not. Its not that hard to be polite. Trust me, I know.

Had a very bad experience at Calvert Animal Hospital tonight. We have been going to this vet for years with all our pets and tonight with Dr Harrison was terrible. We were told that our dog had two types of tick diseases and that last year she tested positive for limes. We were astonished to hear this as we were never told she had limes. When we asked Dr Harrison why we were not notified of this her response was she did not know she was not there last year. you would think that you would at the very least receive an apology but that did not happen nor could she explain why we were not told all she could come up with is we can test her for $55.00. I will not be going back to this vet again very disappointed

I have lived in the area for 28 years and have tried several of the vets in the county. In July, we decided to try Calvert Animal Hospital when my son, who is in college, said his dog was sick and needed to find out what was wrong. Throughout all the testing to determine what was wrong, Doctor Brown was always compassionate but honest. It was cancer and the hard decision was made. Doctor Brown was wonderful through it all. He empathized with my grieving 21 year old and the whole family. It meant so much to us. We have recently rescued a puppy and have seen the other vet. He is really good too. The office staff has been kind, attentive and professional. I would highly recommend them.

Ive used Calvert AH for years, and have always thought Dr. Brown was a great vet who obviously loved what he does. Hes somewhat old-school which can be refreshing, given that he goes with his gut, and doesnt throw ludicrous charges at you for a myriad of tests that you probably didnt need in the first place. Now hes passed the torch to a younger vet, Dr. Stotler. Sometimes change can be intimidating, but I am very happy to say that the care provided by he and his staff is of the same high ( and even higher) standards that it has always been. I trust this clinic completely, and highly recommend it to other pet owners in the area.

Our cats were patients of Dr. Brown and Calvert Animal Hospital for 18 years until we moved out of the area. He is a caring and compassionate veterinarian. When our older cat was ill, he was wonderful with her. We never went to his office that there wasnt a waiting room full of people with their pets to see him. Thats just how popular he is. He is not a man of many words, but he is very thoughtful in what he does say. Im sure, if someone was a little short on the phone, it was due to an overload of people, pets and phone calls.

The vets are really nice and good but the staff (the front desk girls and vet aides) have HORRIBLE customer service skills. They are rude, immature, and unprofessional! One time I was even in there and the girls were talking very disrespectfully about dr. Brown, loud enough for anyone in the office to hear, Im not sure where he was :/...... But I do love dr. Brown and the new vet (younger man) as well, the girls just suck!
