Clearly the best hospital to take your bird. Dogs, cats, exotics and anything else will be given top notch treatment, but you need AWESOME to treat a bird. These people are AWESOME. The experience of the staff is unparalleled. And they are really nice! Dr. Cerf (either one!) is THE BEST ANYWHERE. Dont go anywhere else. I have been going here since around 1985 with an assortment of critters. This practice just keeps getting better and better. They have even modified their hours to make anybody happy! You will be happy you chose this hospital. After reading the other reviews I have to comment: If you have to wait a few minutes past your appointment time, you can be sure it was because of an emergency admittance or some other need that had to be met (If not a LATE client that got the schedule messed up). Rest assured YOU will get thorough treatment, even if YOUR appointment is the one that runs over because of YOUR extra needs. Everyone gets what they need. They schedule lots of time during the day to cover for unforeseen things. For anyone who thinks they are expensive... I can name WAY more expensive places. I have often NOT been given "every test known to man", because of the experience of the Doctors. An emergency admission is going to cost you extra anywhere. Their charges are WAY less than a few places I could name off the top of my head (and you will be getting GOOD care). You are in charge and can always request less treatment. Some things truly have become standard because they are the safest way to go. Getting a heart test done on an elderly dog before going under general anesthesia is something that comes to mind. Some things you just have to know. Come here if you want the best care, but dont be afraid to mention if you cant afford certain treatment. These people really care about you and your critters. I call THEM my family doctor.

I was in town visiting family, having flown in from California. During the trip, I drove three hours to Upstate NY to see some of my wifes family. Coming back to NJ, I forgot my dogs daily medications. :-( Being that it was New Years Eve, I was thrilled that Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital was open, willing to see me, and able to fill my dogs prescriptions. The young woman who answered the phone was absolutely wonderful, checking with the vets while I held to be sure they could help me. After a basic exam and looking at his history and paperwork, the doctor was able to give me enough of the necessary pills to get me back to California. The office was clean and well organized. All of the employees were incredibly sweet and attentive, I was seen right on time, the doctor was knowledgeable and helpful, the veterinary technician was really nice and good with my dog, and Joan had a great report with my dog in just seconds! Also, there were treats for my dogs good behavior. I remember being a kid, loving the doctor giving me a lollipop after my appointment. My dog is no different. If you need a new vet, definitely have a look at Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital!

I have been bringing my two cats to see Dr. Healey at Ridgewood Veterinary for over 7 years. Dr. Healey takes the time necessary to reacquainte herself with my cats history since she last saw them, so that she may properly evaluate and treat them. She is consistently on target with her diagnosis and the medications she prescribes when necessary. My son and his girlfriend found a stray cat that they brought home. The cat was very ill and had to be euthanized. Dr. Healey was so compassionate and thoughtful in the way in which she treated the cat and our family. Ridgewood Vet is expensive and at times Ive felt too expensive for certain services. However I would never bring my cats to another Vet. If Dr. Healey leaves, I will follow. However, I will be moving to NYC and will have to find another Vet in the event of an emergency. If the cats continue in good health, then I will continue to bring them to see Dr. Healey annually.

Our pets have been overall well taken care of by this hospital. Doctors and staff are very good and friendly. They accommodated our last minute calls on several occasion when our pets were sick, and our puppy and kitten were seen within a few hours. Though it is very pricy, I feel we are paying for a good services and very convenient hours (open late hours and on weekends). The only negative thing is the problem I encountered over the phone. I sometimes I feel very rushed when I call for an appointment or asking a medical follow up question. This doesnt always happen but did happen multiple times. Also, when our puppy had a GI side effect with the prescription med and I called twice to get an advice, they never got back to me though they promised they would. We talked to the doctor about it during the following visit, and it didnt seem our message have gotten through. Hope these problems would be fixed soon.

I have a ferret and he was sneezing a lot so I took him to Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital and they took excellent care of Stretch for me. I had recently had the flu and my comfort during my time of being ill was playing with my ferret. I did not know that the ferret could catch my cold. They were very helpful and really nice to me and I was really happy that my Stretch was going to be okay. I highly recommend this place to anyone whether it be for the type of exotic animal I have or a dog or cat. They really care about the animals at this place not about the money here at all. I give this place 100% and 5 stars which ever rating method you choose. They are truly worth the ride and time you spend to get there. Thank you to everyone at Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital for taking such great care of my Stretch and following up with me to see how he is doing. Keep up the great work. Yvette Izquierdo

Lets just say my dog is named Travis after Dr. Travis Cerf!! I had been to 3 other veterinarians in the area before coming to Dr. Cerf and the staff and the quality of care and overall experience is absolutely by far superior. I would never let anyone else care for my pets. My dog that passed away was very ill-if these dr.s wanted to just make money there were many options that could have been attempted but Dr. Cerf was so caring and honest explaining that while those may be temporary fixes, our angel would have suffered a lot of pain. He said as a vet those were the options but as a dog lover he told us straight out that if it were his dog he would humanely and lovingly let him go quietly in peace without suffering. While it was devastating, we were so grateful for his advice. Now we have our own four legged Travis who is treated like a little prince over at Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital!!

On the second day of my vacation three thousand miles away, my dog Maggie Mae took seriously ill. Aware of my circumstances Dr. Hartwick called me on my cell phone as soon as she had completed her examination. She was extremely thorough in detailing possible problems that required further testing. The following day she apprised me of the need for surgery and the prognosis for Maggie in having the surgery. From there Dr. Dean Cerf took over and agreed to come in on the following day to do surgery. He too kept me informed every step of the way. Knowing that Maggie would need post-op care, he recommended that I continue the vacation. Days later I received videos of the recuperating Maggie which totally reassured me that she was on the mend. She continues to improve every day. For a twelve-year-old dog her recovery is a testament to these fine veterinarians.
