One long-time customer expressed dissatisfaction with recent staff changes, stating that the front desk staff are not as friendly as before. The customer also raised concerns about the quality of veterinary care, mentioning a few serious errors that had been made, including one that led to the loss of a pet.
Another customer praised the hospital for helping manage the weight of their seven cats. The customer specifically mentioned Dr. Barker and Kristin Gunnels for their advice and ongoing support. They were recommended a prescription food made by Royal Canin, which has been effective in weight loss for their cats.
A customer mentioned issues with informed consent. They were initially told that vaccinations and checkups would cost about $30 per dog but were charged around $60 per dog due to additional, unapproved procedures. However, the hospital followed up and assured that such practices were not the norm.
A customer who was visiting from out of state had to seek emergency euthanasia services for their 15-year-old Shih Tzu. They were able to contact the hospital through their emergency line and were met by a vet tech named Josh, who was described as thoroughly respectful and excellent in providing the service.
Another customer mentioned that while the hospital is a bit pricier for some services, they appreciate the expertise they get. The customer felt that the vets at this practice are not just animal doctors but animal lovers who do what's best for the animal.

Ive gone to this veterinary hospital for many years now. I used to love them and told everyone how great they were. But lately, for about the last year or so, Im not feeling so great about them. There have been some staff changes that give the place a different atmosphere, for one thing. The different girls at the front desk are not friendly now. Of course that doesnt really matter, tho, because its not about me, its about getting care for my pet, so I can ignore the unfriendliness. As for the veterinary care my pets have received lately, its been mostly pretty poor and there have been a few very serious errors made, one of which cost the life of one of my beloved pets. It was a huge error that the vet made. I know people make mistakes, but there have been SO many in the past year that its no longer within an acceptable range. In addition to poor veterinary care, there is the matter of the poor cleanliness and sanitation. Its really bad lately, to the point where I wont leave any of my animals there for any amount of time. Then there is the matter of their pricing. What started out years ago as just slightly more expensive care that was worth the additional expense for the better care, its now become grossly inadequate veterinary care at ridiculously high prices. Im so disappointed at the changes over the last few years, and it seems like every time I go there its worse. They are mostly good people working there, and I hate writing this bad review, but its the best description I can give. I am looking for a new veterinary hospital for my pets. I havent found one yet. There is surely a better option than being overcharged for poor care. Ill miss the people Ive come to think of as friends at this veterinary hospital, but I have to have better care for my animals. Im sorry but I cant recommend this vet hospital.

We have 7 wonderful cats in our household. A few of them love the food bowl and because we were free feeding, a few of them became overweight. I took our biggest (17 pounds) to see Dr. Barker about 6 months ago for a check up and a weight loss plan. Even though our big guy was healthy, he seriously needed to lose a few pounds. Dr. Barker and Kristin Gunnels worked with us and are continuing to work with us to get our kitties on the road to a healthier future. Our cats have been on a prescription food made by Royal Canin. Its called Satiety Support. It helps our cats feel more full while eating less and it prevents urinary issues. All 7 cats absolutely love it! Our big boy is down to 14 pounds so far and the increase in energy is literally astounding. He doesnt sleep all day anymore and is much more agile. Our two 15 pounders are now down to 11 pounds as well! We couldnt be more pleased with the choice of food and the wonderful advice and care that we have received from Copelands staff. If you want to work with people who truly care about your pets well-being, Copeland is the way to go. Thank you guys for everything you have done and continue to do!

Most of the staff was alright, but our vet tech, Josh, was absolutely amazing. The biggest problems I had was with informed consent. We took our pups in for vax and checkups, which we were told would cost about $30 per dog. Without asking if we wanted it or telling us it would be a higher cost, they also did fecal swabs and gave the dogs worm pills, which upped the price to around $60 per dog. The price was a little on the high side to begin with, but the practice of performing procedures for which there is an upcharge without asking for consent or mentioning the upcharge is just bad business. I doubt well be taking our dogs there again. Edit: Got a call from Copeland regarding this review. They were very apologetic and assured me that unapproved procedures and fees were not their norm and offered to fix the problem. Great follow up and customer service. Well at least give them another chance to see how things go next time.

My friends who are homeless and jobless had a puppy get run over by a car and had his leg broken. Copeland charged $1000 for the surgery and wanted their money up front of they were going to put him down. MANY phone calls were made and finally someone said they would pay the bill. In the meantime we found out that the EXACT SAME SURGERY was HALF the price one town over. The puppy had been there two days already and when we called to say we would like to take him where the price of the surgery is cheaper they said it would cost us $500 for the two days that he had been there. They KNEW the owners were homeless and jobless and just wanted to save their baby!!!!!! YOU SUCK COPELAND VETERINARY CLINIC!!!!!!! You are in it for the money and that is it. Shame on you and I am going to tell everyone that we know and anyone who will listen NOT to take your dog to Copeland Veterinary Clinic in Cookeville, TN.

Copeland Veterinary Hospital was great!!!!! I took my chihuahua to them for various reasons (defecation problems, as well as joint problems). I was very hesitant because my chihuahua is very snappy when meeting new people. The tech and the doctor were amazing. The came in a petted her and loved on her before doing anything. They talked to me about all of my options and allowed me to make the decision without forcing me to pay more (they actually suggested for me to do everything at once so I would not have to pay another office visit, most places would not tell you this so they could make more money). For all they did for my chihuahua, i thought the price was very reasonable, and they also accept care credit, which allows you to pay off the cost within 6 months without interest. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND COPELAND VETERINARY HOSPITAL!!!!!

This past Saturday evening, my beloved 15+ year old Shih Tzu went into respiratory failure. My parents are new to the area, and I was visiting from out of state. After a frantic and disappointing hour of searching for a euthanasia service (around ten oclock at night), I was able to make contact with Josh through Copelands emergency line. He met my mother and I at the hospital, gave us time to say good bye to our pup, and was thoroughly respectful throughout the process. Being a technician in my home state, I have a high standard of care, and was nervous that it would be a bad experience for my mother. Josh was excellent, and I could not have asked for things to go more smoothly. My family and I are so appreciative of the assistance we received, and thankful that Copeland was there in our time of need.

A little pricier on some things, but you pay for the expertise you get. For simple shots, etc. its OK to go somewhere else, but for anything more complex, I prefer take my animals here, and I have tried many vets. They will give it to you STRAIGHT, will explain things in detail, are compassionate, and will NOT run your pet through unnecessary diagnostics just to rack up $$ at your, and your pets, expense. Very helpful and respectful, and understanding in stressful and sad moments. Also, they wont talk down to you, which is greatly appreciated. Bottom line: the vets at this practice are not just animal doctors: they are animal lovers, and they do whats best for the animal, not for their pockets. Too bad they cant treat PEOPLE, because I would go HERE.
